Well done. I was in SBC churches in SC and NC for decades but about a dozen years ago I became part of a CBF leaning congregation. Your video hits it right on the SBC-CBF differences.

My father was a Southern Baptist pastor and member of the CSBC (California Southern Baptist Convention) state board, and I will say with like one or two exceptions both myself and my father believe just about everything stated as a Southern Baptist Doctrine in this video. However I will add that the church is mostly decentralized, meaning that there is a lot of wiggle room for what people believe and as long as a Church sticks to the General basis a minister or church body can emphasize different ideas, making it a very “location dependent” experience, for better or worse.

aye. I grew up in a Methodist Episcopal / Baptist tradition, depending if we were in New Jersey with my mother's family or in lower Alabama with my father's family. As the UMC drifted to the left, I walked to the SBC.

I already watched the denomination-specific videos on these 3, and I still learned something in this video

I would say there are more Calvinists in the SBC than people realize.

What's odd to me is pretty much all baptists I knew growing up were calvinist. Only as an adult did I meet baptists who were not solid 5 point calvinists. Now I go to a Baptist church and I have yet to meet a 5 point calvinist here.

What I've percieved is that Calvinism is a minority in the SBC, but sizable enough to be technically a mainstream idea. But you'll be hard pressed to find someone who denies Perseverance of the Saints (better known in Baptist circles as Once Saved Always Saved). Most Southern Baptists exist somewhere in that range

In the 18th and 19th centuries, a man would have to profess his belief in Jesus Christ (not just God) to become a member of the Grand Lodges of Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. I'm not aware of that every being requisite at any point in the history of American lodges. Much of it had to do with rifts between Ancient (Operative) masons and Modern (Speculative) masons. I know Anabaptists would be opposed to Freemasonry as oaths are involved. That would include the Blue Lodge degrees, the Scottish and York Rites, Shriners, Royal Arch, etc. People acting under the names of Christianity, Catholicism, or Freemasonry do plenty of good, positive things for people and society, but there are rotten apples operating within every institution. It's just the way the world works. Separate the wheat from the chaff. That's all you can do.

I don't think SBC has (at least anytime recently) endorsed freemasons. But the way SBC is set up, very little is required to be a member. SBC churches are not required to affirm the SBC doctrinal statement and the actual beliefs of the churches are not officially regulated for the most part. They are however required to give money to support SBC's missions efforts, seminaries, etc. which all do affirm the SBC doctrinal statement, so that keeps churches that oppose baptist doctrine from being members. That said, there are a few presbyterian churches in SBC. So likely all that it means for SBC to be "okay" with freemasonry is that no one has seen it as a big enough issue to bring up at the yearly convention and produce a formal statement on.

Interesting comparsion once again

CBF churches are the most liturgical Baptist churches I have seen. I have seen them often have vestments, paraments, acolytes, corporate confession, organs, large choirs. I have seen one with a split chancel. That is pretty much the best thing they have going for them. That and they accept other modes of Baptism and aren’t opposed to the term Sacrament.

You should do a video on Independent Baptists.

Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and Alliance of Baptist Churches both came from the SBC's conservative push in the 80s and 90s. CBF sought to fill a role of not taken many hard lines, so conservative, moderate and progressive Churches can all fit in. Alliance takes a much more progressive stance, requiring member Churches to be open and affirmating to the LGBTQ+ community and allowing women in all roles of ministry.

I would say that historically Garb has taken a strong stance on many of these things, but recently there are some people in the churches who have differing views on some positions here that I would consider secondary. Like alcohol use. While most garb churches take a stronge stance against it, I know many people in garb churches who have no problem with drinking in moderation. And while I only know a few who hold to all the points of Calvinism, it is fairly common to have a garb member hold to a few of the points. I would also say that while giving to the Church is definitely looked upon as a good thing. Tithing (which implies 10% giving) is generally not taught (or at least in the churches I have gone to). I also have never heard of Freemasonry even brought up in the church at all.

A few thoughts on Mainline Protestantism: many such churches, while believing in God, deny the existence of certain things mentioned in the Bible: for example, that God created the world within a week, that Adam and Eve were living people etc. My question is, if they accept that there is a God in Heaven, how then can they possibly deny the truth of ‘lesser’ things, like those mentioned? For if there is a God ( and I believe there is ), surely all those other things should be, and are, true as well? The problem is that the likes of the United Church of Christ ( UCC ), Evangelical Lutheran Church in America ( ELCA ) and even this Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, are intent on pleasing the world, and not God. You either believe the Bible in Its entirety or needn’t believe it at all. Hopefully, the grand Southern Baptist Convention will not bow to these trends, most of its everyday congregants around the country certainly don’t want that. Make sure that good, sound ministers are presented to congregations, and keep the seminaries liberal free to accomplish this!

Belief in a creator God and full accent to the holy scriptures are different things, for one, because the holy scriptures require interpretation. Maybe you mean "How could someone believe in the God of the bible and yet not believe the bible?"

It's pretty simple: a literal reading of the opening chapters of Genesis has been proven to be irreconcilable with actual historical and scientific data. Therefore, the proper theological reading of the text (the one that doesn't require it to be thrown out by the faith community as mere folklore) is an allegorical reading that recognizes the symbolic meaning of the characters and setting. It is still holy scripture and a reliable source of sound doctrine, even though it cannot be read literally if it is to be read responsibly.

I am Cooperative Baptist, but I was raised Southern Baptist. Our church definitely believes the virgin birth, literal death and resurrection of Jesus. Most baptisms are done by immersion but they offer sprinkling as a choice. We are definitely not cessationist.

Let's dig into the Mormons.

One of these is not like the other

Regular Baptists would be by far the soundest and most Biblically faithful of the 3. The CBF are flat out compromisers and could be barely called evangelical. The GARBC on the other hand are one of the better expressions of American evangelicalism. The SBC are a mixed multitude pretty much. Some good individual fellowships, some not so good but the worst have gone over to the CBF.

Ya my father is a pastor for a Southern Baptist Church, and I can say it is very decentralized with different beliefs highlighted depending on the church, however with like 1 or 2 exceptions my church would argue in favor of most of the things presented as Southern Baptist in this video

Can you do Adventists next? 1. Seventh day Adventists 2. Advent Christian 3. Christadelphians or Church of God (7th day). You haven't touched on Adventists in your videos.

Unlike the traditional Apostolic denominations, like Catholics or Orthodox, Baptists don't believe there was meant to be a strict hirerarchy passed down from the early days, so their confidence isn't in apostolic succession. They are Protestants, and thus believe in Sola Scriptura-- truth and authority are hinged upon fidelity to Scripture alone. Protestants were convinced that the Catholic Church's tradition was no longer faithful to the teachings of Christ recorded in Scripture, so they started reforming and got kicked out of the Catholic Church for it. Baptists were English separatists, influenced by anabaptists, who split of from Anglicanism because they did not believe the Church of England rightly taught the Word of God. The Baptist denomination thus descends from Anglicanism, then Catholicism, and then on to the Early Church. The Gospel and the Word of God have been thus passed to them, and that is enough for them.
