South Lake Tahoe with Diane
Diane and I get some lunch at South Lake Tahoe, then fly the 1948 Ercoupe back to Nevada County, over Lake Tahoe & the Sierra Nevada. We also get some good views of Emerald Bay.

You've got that right!
Thank you for the cameo! The dog that was laying down (Nacho) passed away this weekend so it was even more special to see him. ❤ Nice to meet you both!

Oh no, poor Nacho. We're glad we got to meet him. Very sorry, Sandy. ❤
I'm glad Juan B sent me to your channel. Beautiful plane. Greetings from the Big Bend of Florida.

Thanks and welcome, FL Big Bend!
I do the same thing with the oil cap on my 1963 bug in the colder months. Enjoyed the show.
Me, Sandy, Nacho and Taco have been eagerly awaiting this video. Well done! and we are happy to have the cameo.

Was good to meet you guys briefly, and thank you for being a good air traffic controller on the ground! Hope to meet again sometime soon.
You two are so cute and precious!
Hi James… Something you might want to consider when leaving your oil filler open is the possibility of a critter getting into your oil sump. Mice have been known to explore inside engines and I think their lubrication properties are somewhat less than Continental recommends. Take a piece of screen and make something that looks like a mushroom to cover the opening but allow the sump to vent.

Hello 'The Stig'! Good point. I definitely don't leave it open for long - just while I'm wiping the bugs off, maybe for 15-20 mins. I wouldn't leave it open over night or anything like that.
Amazing views! Taken that flight many times over from Minden, lots of good memories, had a close call with density altitude on a touch n go at blue canyon when training. Nice to meet you, working at the fbo in Tahoe, its nice to get to enjoy those views on the daily.
Awesome james, was fun having lunch next to you that day, fun to meet!

Glad you left a message, great to meet you and your daughter as well, Mike!
What a beautiful flight. Well done.
Great movie!
James & Diane, thanks again for such an entertaining and enjoyable episode. I love the repartee between you two, my only regret re flying is that my dear wife has never flown with me.
Loved the Zappa reference !
The snow looks great. We got a lot here in Tehachapi too.....cali needs it.
Thanks for sharing the trip - simply stunning scenery.... especially for us 'flatlanders' in Illinois.
Nice video James. It's good to see you and Diane again. I've been remiss in keeping up with y'all and 805.

"I'm lichen that green"??? Really Diane? 😉 (What a gorgeous winter flight though...)
That's a fun airport to fly into. I did the Steak and Brie Sandwich last time I was there.
Nice views, thanks !!! 😉👍🇨🇦
I would think that plane, as much as I dig them would be a terrible Mountain Flying Aircraft. If You had any kind of a warm day or Mountain Turbulence, there’s no way You would’ve got out of there. I flew a C150 to big bear Airport once or twice years ago and with that density altitude I made the decision not to land and just cruise around sightseeing. Crazy stuff. Glad it was a safe flight for you.

Yup, you have to be hyper aware of what the weather is doing, DA, your very limited performance, all that. And when the wx works out, it's very rewarding to coax a low-powered aircraft into cool places.
Bit of a traffic jam on departure, in MSFS would have given him 1 minute then just clipped right through him, guess that not allowed in the real world😁, A nice way to grab some lunch, you've got plenty of snow there at the moment.
Another great adventure! And as Frank would say, "Don't you eat that yellow snow!" Always sound advice. ;^)
Great Video as usual. Interesting maintenance tip with the oil cap. Had some local pilots who made an engine dehydrator for the long cold winters here in Eastern Washington. Your maintenance/ flight hour breakdown for just cleaning the windows must be outrageous. Those are the cleanest windows I have ever seen. Really adds to the quality of the videos.
Hey pal…nice wx down there…not here other than a few afternoons late. On my BFR last weekend I never saw more than 140 degrees at 6000’ over the snow. On descent it even dropped back to 105 !!! Mine is Very cold natured.

Hey Joe! Yes, 805 is similar, definitely runs a little cooler than I'd like, a lot of the time. Assuming my oil temp gauge is accurate. Snowing like crazy here, right now.

@@JamesGood James, since I now have 4 new cylinders, new oil pump, new baffling, I don't see temps like I used to. I used to run around 180 but now run around 150
Gorgeous flighjt!! Ity was nice to see you point out potential landing spots; keep it up.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful flight on this original aircraft ! I like to fly on Aircoupe on my simulator. Fly safe !
Nice flight James! Beautiful scenery and good communication at Tahoe coordinating the departure with only one plowed taxiway. Loved the greaser landing at KGOO. Thanks for sharing. Fly safe!

Thank you Joe! I always look forward to and appreciate your comments on my vids.
Like that you discussed the off field landing options. Nonpilots may not appreciate some of the safety of flight issues that we have to be constantly aware of. Nice video!

Yes it helps to vent through the oil filler until the engine is cool. Short flights and standing kills engines faster that flying them 🙂
G,day James and Diane from Sydney Australia. I wonder if the Vans aircraft company bulletin about the RV-12 additional strength plates to landing gear beams affects your home build in partnership with Juan? It would have been nice to see some altimeter ments (if any) flying over the snow covered mountains. 🌏🇭🇲
Hey James, love your videos! Question, I see your Ercoupe is a 1948 vintage, what engine do you have in it?

Beautiful flight and beautiful plane. I love following your channel and your aviation adventures. What is it that is reading out your traffic information that I heard on the video through your headset? Is that your ADS-B on the right dash?

Hey Sean. That would be ForeFlight on my iPad. I have a Bluetooth adaptor for that, that puts the audio from the iPad, into my headset. And yes, it’s ADSb in, from the sentry unit (white box on the right).
Nice to see both of you flying the coup again. I'm hoping we all can meet up and fly together this summer. Billy and Tracey - N99601 (Carl)
