    Lived in Durban as a child in 63 to 67 we emigrated there and I absolutely loved it beautiful city I'm 70 now and would love to go back to see it again

    Valid point ,but I feel like that doesn't really apply to majority of the population. Non-white people were seen as subhuman purely based on the colour of their skin, so for them it was literally impossible to have their experiences documented outside of any racial undertones.

    There has always been segregation, throughout the world, not just on colour but social class and even gender. The mistake SA made was to proclaim apartheid and enclose it in their laws.

    My dad was born amd raised in south africa, his family were Jewish dutch immigrants who left holland after ww2. Then in the 1960s he moved to the US, thats where i was born and raised and still live. He doesn't talk about his upbringing there much, i dont push but ive always been really interested in learning about where that side of my family came from...

    Americans are pretty inward thinking about the world, we are told at school we are the greatest and most free country on earth and no one is greater than us. I had teachers tell us how bad people have it overseas. One geography teacher about 1972 said in South Africa if you were anti-apartied you'd be made to stand on a box til you collapsed and then your ankles were broken. Yes she taught us that.

    100 percent.WHY can't they see their lives are hard and sad now.When I lived in SA we fed,educated the children and nursed them for free .I went back couple of years ago and was more than shocked.Interestingly if you speak to the older.Africans,they miss the.security they had.and feeling "one if the family".....😢
