Sounds of distress: young whale entangled in Gold Coast Shark Nets

On Monday evening a young whale became entangled in a Queensland shark net, just one week into the whale migration season. 🐋
The distressed whale was left to struggle overnight in a shark net off Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast and was freed by rescue crews around 8am the following morning.
This footage is not easy to watch and it is a distressing indication of what is to come this season. 💔

As an australian I am embarrassed and devastated. It's hard to believe our government won't ban sharknets.
This is just so tragic and a completely unavoidable issue! Queensland Govt. must ban shark nets during whale migration ... at the very least!!!
Bloody shark nets protect nothing and no one this is the end result. Same goes for dum lines as well. I am so proud to be a paying supporter

It’s sad to think about how much healthier our planet would be without humans. For something so natural, our obsession with money, & technological advancement seems bizarre to me.
