They were the best rock band of the 90s, and the best of grunge. Alice In Chains was cool because it had Layne Stanlley and today Jerry Cantrell can't hold it together, SoundGarden is one of those bands that with RARELY exceptions ALL the members are top level musicians, just like the Beatles or PinkFloyd, where all the members were talented and multifaceted. The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.

Kim Thayil seems cool - no ego, just a music lover. Seems like he loves HIS gear, not gear in general, which is a best state of mind for a musician. Good for him. I don't know how anyone survives being a rock star, but he seems to have made it through.

Cost usually means nothing. Play a guitar before you buy it. Play lots of guitars. I have (wife says) too many guitars but one of the best purchases was 75 bucks for a Yamaha Pacifica that plays and sounds better than at least half of the other electrics I've plugged in. Those guild's are more versatile than an SG. Possibly better made as well.

Ben's tech is right, he does indeed throw his bass. I was at this show, at the rail, right in front of him and away that bass flew right into the Ampeg rig, haha.

This is awesome, Kim Thayil is probably my favourite guitarist of all time (and the reason my last band had to change tunings about 5 times in a half hour set), highly tempted to get one of those routing pedals for when I'm using an analog rig now.

Nope. We all take turns being on camera and shooting. Chris was more into Soundgarden and their gear since he interviewed Kim for the magazine in the Nov '12 issue. We feel it makes sense to put the best interviewer on camera that is most knowledgeable of the artist's gear/musical catalog to help create the best videos for you guys! Thanks and keep rocking, --PG Staff

Hello Premier Guitar, Hello Chris, I wanna thank you so much for that cool Video! That was so interesting to see Kim's very special Effects Pedals! In this video I learned how to achieve a better sound (more realistic) Soundgarden lead sound! Josh Evans explained things so well! Premier Guitar show things that otherwise people would never see! So, thank you so much again! With lovely greetings from Germany to the USA! Matthias Söllner
