Rig Rundown - Bad Religion
Музыка
What’s more punk rock than dueling angry P-90s straight into classic Marshalls? Answer: Nothing!
Nearing their fourth decade as a band and celebrating their just-released 17th album, Age of Unreason, the punk-rock pioneers toured the south including a rare Nashville stop.
PG’s Perry Bean stopped by Music City’s Cannery Ballroom before soundcheck to check out how punk’s elder statesmen Mike Dimkich, Brian Baker, and bassist Jay Bentley still don’t use pedals, why they prefer P-90s over humbuckers, and explain what piece of their rig was inspired by our AC/DC episode.

I don't even know Bad Religion, but these guys remind me of a true rock band. No vaults full of guitars. No massive pedalboards. Old amps. 1 main guitar and one backup. Ride the volume knob.... I love it!

I mean if you have 2 different tunings you need 4 guitars. 2 mains and 2 back ups. Pedal boards are cool because tuners and other effects. And things like axfx save bands tones of money because shipping physical amps and cabs is crazy expensive. So. I see what you're saying but

Brian B watching Rig Rundown and loved the AC DC one. That is so cool. Salt of the earth guys there.....
Brian Baker, hands down, punk guitar hero Numero uno. Just a couple of Les Pauls straight into a Marshall and no pedals. That's punk rock. Awesome rig rundown!
What a great interview with the second guy. He clearly loves his guitars and amps. He just spouted his passion out.
“They do LEAVE the pedal, so, that shows how far we’ve come. Thank you.” 😂😂😂
I’ll say it again Perry has really gotten good at this gig, very cool episode.
Loved this Rig Rundown! I had the pleasure of meeting Brian, Jay, and the rest of the band back in 2000. During the half-hour or so I got to hang out with them Brian gave me a piece of advice that I never forgot: "If you get a chance to play in a band like Bad Religion, don't ever leave." I understood what he meant when he told me that. Opportunities to play with great bands don't come too often, so if you find yourself invited to play with a band you love, do it and enjoy the ride. Happy to say I'm still an active 'weekend warrior' and doing some light touring to this day. Thanks Brian and Jay!

Brian Baker is the Mr Rogers of punk rock. Incredibly cool dude and musician.
All the members of Bad Religion consistently come across as the most down-to-earth, gracious dudes.
I’ve watched so many episodes on this channel it’s cool seeing them but this episode was amazing. Everyone was so polite and knowledgeable abt the gear and rigs, tbh I really like how everything was just so simple, just a good ol’ Les Paul plugged into a couple amps and using the volume knob for effects. Jay was so funny just watching him react to every question and like telling BR stories of recordings, Brian was so humble abt his inspirations in the punk rock world and was really chill and personal abt it, Mike was also hilarious in talking abt his rigs and basically talking abt sending guitar pics to Brian and comparing it to “Guitar P-n”. Anyways I loved this, thx for giving me knowledge abt great punk rock guitar tone. 🔥🔥🔥
Opened up for Bad Religion in '96, in Belgium. Brian had only one guitar with him: a 'factory second' black Gibson LP Standard. It even didn't have a serial number. Their amps were hissing all the way through soundcheck so they asked me if they could use both my JCM 800's. Nice guys all the way for sure. Met them several times after that in Europe/USA, you can not go wrong with BR! Period!

Next to 311, this is the coolest rig rundown I’ve seen. Something about both of their rigs just defies logic on how simple and beautiful a P90 Vintage Gibson junior into a Marshall plexi. These guys are super humble and generous and friendly. Love Rig Rundown.
Yup... I often say this too... wish there had been PG Rig Rundowns when I was a kid! I've learned so much about guitar tones and setups in the last few years watching this show!
Steve Jones and Johnny Thunders, and early Mick Jones, all Juniors..... .. for (Punk) Rock n Roll that's it, right there 👍
This is one of my favorite vids of all time 100%. BR has been my favorite band for about 9 years and a huge influence on me as a musician.
As a young teenager, New America was my first BR album. Thank god for Punk-O-Rama, otherwise i would have stopped there.
“God love him” says the Bad Religion guitarist
I got drunk and watched the Bad Religion Rig Rundown again. I'm worried I already left this comment. Anyway, Brian Baker is the Platonic ideal of the old guy who makes sure to read every plaque he encounters in a new city and also once had to fight a crew of shitty Long Island skins.
This is really awesome! I’m so glad Bad Religion made their appearance on Rig Rundown!
Awesome New America anecdotes from Jay at the end. Man is a legend.
"Dear Diary, today was a good day."
Seen these guys a couple months ago .. didn't play many of the old stuff which bummed me out but still rocked the house
Best rig rundown of all rig rundowns?! I believe so 💪🏻.
Nice one Mike... usually a clean thing is a quiet part of the song, Thats so onto it.I use a guitar with p90s so many tones in the volume and tone knobs cleans up beautifully. Thanks man
"No, it wasn't repaired, it was just from hanging". PERFECT reason for that UV light. Both things will show there's something there. But the glue and the repair will fluoresce, a nick won't.
Thanks for finally sharing this guys
I learned 35 years of unknowns too watching every RR front to end. It also took me about as long to learn the power and necessity of rolling off the volume depending on a million things. That came around the time I bought a P90 guitar.
This is one of my favorite rig rundowns

"My main effects pedal: Boss TU-2"
I love these guys so much. This might be the first video I've seen of Bad Religion talking about their gear.
Definitely my favorite episode
Bought the new record off the back of this rig rundown. Love it.
I actually had the pleasure of working on one of Brian's old 800's from his Junkyard days years ago. The band name was spray-painted onto the metal grill on the rear of the amp and it had since fallen into the care of a studio cat that had toured with REM. It was also bone stock aside from tubes and it needed some new electrolytics -- the old LCR multi-caps had started losing steam and the EL34's in there were not the best for what the owner was after. Also added a fixed resonance mod -- totally reversible but the owner was keen to the idea of a little more low-end. Was definitely a bright moment for me as BR was (and is) a huge part of my early years.
