Previous Install Video: • Hard Top Headliners, D...
To kick off the new 2 door JK build, we are starting with a much needed interior upgrade! While Jeeps are known to be loud, uncomfortable, and rough, its not too hard to make them a nice daily driver with a few upgrades! We are installing a full set of HotHead Headliners with sound assassin strips on the hardtop, which will not only help insulate the top from hot and cold temps but also help dampen the wind noise from the top. These are very high quality, and perform much better than the Mopar Headliners or other cheaper brands. (I have the Mopar Headliner kit on the Gladiator).
While the Headliner kit helped tremendously, the road noise from the floorboards was the next to address. The full 2 door Sound Assassin kit solved that issue quickly! This was a very dense material, and felt really thick compared to other knock off matting ive handled before. Simply remove the carpet and seats, clean out the tub and start cutting and applying!
The interior of the Jeep now feels much more comfortable and quiet, in a way it feels newer. The noise level did show a drop, and in person it is wildly noticeable. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for next weeks Jeep video!

I get the sound assassin floor liner is great, used it on my JTR, but im curious, yes, sound dampening like Stinger, DynaMat and such is heavier but only by 2-5lbs, it’s also a lot cheaper so why not use that esp considering the bulk packs have a lot more panels available?

@@hollywood4n6 the sound assassin seems to work better, and like you said it’s lighter. At first I was hesitant to add any floor liner at ALL because of weight. Jeeps get heavy fast with each and every single little upgrade. So each lb matters

That factory Loctite is no joke, depending what color they used. When I had to remove the body-mount bolts on my JT to install the Ace Engineering rock sliders, the front bolts requires a blowtorch.... they had used Red on the front, which usually the bolt snaps before the Loctite does if you don't soften it up some. I have the same rock sliders in my garage for my 2023 JLU (when it finally gets back from the dealer service from hell) and luckily I have heard the JL uses blue Loctite on the body mount bolts. Either way though, I always break them loose by hand at first before I put the impact on them. Call me cautious.

I did this to my Jeep about three years ago. Huge difference! I also took the door panels off and was able to get quite a bit of sound deadning inside the door which made closing it also quieter. I suggest doubling or even trippling the amount of sound deadning material on the wheel wells, which is where most of the noise comes from. Especialy if you have off road tires.

@@JaiGadiel Yes, it's bedliner like Rhinoliner. I think it was around $650. I used to manage car stereo installation shops and put in lots of add-on sound deadener. For a vehicle like a Wrangler that has a high chance of getting very wet, I feel using bedliner instead of glued-on sheets will last longer and help prevent the floorboards from rusting. I also had an '81 Jeep Cherokee that I used Herculiner on, it was only about $100.

The bedrug is completely waterproof, its made of plastic to resemble and feel like carpet. Itll just pool up and drain. The sound assassin is butyl rubber so its not porous and cannot retain moisture either. It could possibly retain some moisture if you didnt apply it correctly and roll it on hard enough. But can still pull floor plugs and everything. I do not see this setup presenting an issue with moisture

The only problem with putting that on the floor is if you go across a deeper water crossing or get rained on with the top off is water getting trap’d between the sound mat and the floor and rusting it out..

Really odd q, but I wonder what it would be like to put the sound assasin in, then rhino line the interior after? Awful im sure. But Sound minimizing, and don't have to worry about mud/slop getting in? Sounds enticing.

There was no discernable decible difference. And how much was the cost to do all this? I put an inexpensive spray in (rattle can) bedliner throughout and it had about the same effect without the high $$$ kits. Only thing that might be different is the quality of sound when listening to your stereo.

There was a major decibel difference… what are you talking about? It was a night and day difference. A spray in bedliner will not create the same result at all.

Dont focus on the number of the decibel. For example, a Vacuum cleaner is around 80 decibels and average office noise is 70, so a few decibels can be an insane difference. Its a huge drop in person and its a clear difference. Plus the temp difference is insane if you live in a hot or cold climate. Im sure this isnt for everyone, but i also know there are people out there who really enjoy driving their jeep long distances, and this can be worth it for sure.

I’m glad I had to explain myself to you, a person who I have never met, nor owe any explanation to. Yet, here I am. Hope this makes you feel better?
