In the last video we installed some interior upgrades in the 2009 Jeep Wrangler 2 door, including Hothead Headliner, Sound Assassin, and Bedrug carpet. Now its time to focus a little on the exterior!
New bumpers and fenders are an amazing start to a Jeep Build. The fenders will allow us to run larger tires with minimal to no modifications to the suspension, while adding some style as well. The bumpers will offer better offroad protection from damage, allow us to mount a winch, improve approach and departure angles, as well as looking good!
I chose to go with the Outta Hand Fab Elite series bumpers. They are both frame chop bumpers, however OHF does offer multiple other bolt on bumpers as well. These offer incredible weight savings compared to other aftermarket options, and their steel tray ties everything in with impressive gusseting for a heavy duty setup.
I am a huge fan of flexible fender flares on these jeeps, so i went with a set of KBD poly fender flares. These have a really good style, and seem to be way more flexible than any other fenders i have seen. Of course they are also lightweight and offer a ton of extra tire clearance. These are a very narrow flare, so probably not a good idea for people in states with strict fender enforcement.
A set of tires and wheels we had laying around were a perfect fit for this setup, offering a smooth ride while still giving a more "offroad" look.
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more offroad videos!

I have those hood latches installed. I’d recommend switching the pin and cord to the backside. If it gets snagged on something it will just pull the pin out, as opposed to getting caught and potentially causing damage.

I would use rustoleum bed liner to paint the bumpers black but leave the fenders alone. Looks awesome! And when you scratch it, you simply touch it up. Just wish the front bumper still had fog light buckets.

Color is such a personal preference. For me, I like the contrast of black bumper/fender/roof against the body color. If it is all the same, there is no definition to the lines of the Jeep. My 08 X is also red. I saw you paint the headlight retainer rings and thought, when the heck didn't I do that?!? It will be my next minor mod.

So my kbd flares should be in this Wednesday. I ordered them last week after balling them for some time. I think I decided on a good way to coat them that’s better than paint. Might also be a good idea for a video for the channel. I am going to use the Vvivid indestructible vinyl wrap. The narrow rolls are very inexpensive on Amazon and the stuff seems pretty tough. Give a shout-out if you decide to try it out! Love the channel, keep it up!

My opinion on painting the new parts is: Paint the bumpers black and leave the fender flares as they are; they're pretty flexible and any paint you put on them is going to crack. Just sayin'...
