I have a Korn related story you might find interesting. Around 23 years ago I was having breakfast at the Sugar Shack in Huntington Beach and this guy sitting at the table next to me had this really cool looking tattoo of what looked like a psychedelic Cheshire Cat on his upper arm. I'd seen him around that area a lot and noticed it before. I had my camera with me so as he and his friends got up to leave I asked him if I could get a picture of his tattoo. He said sure and i took a couple of shots and thanked him. The group walked away and I sat back down at my table. A few seconds later my waiter comes over and says "Do you know who that was?". I shook my head and he said, "That's Dave, the drummer from Korn!" (I'm so dumb)

I'll share a korn story. I was born in 96, but my co worker is the same age as the korn guys. He went to a korn show in the mid 90's when everybody was still on drugs. He and his friends were backstage and they found a cooler full of beer, and some other drugs. So naturally they helped themselves. Munky came out later and yelled at them and had security throw them out. They drank the bands beer supply for the night and smoked a bunch of their stuff.

I love their music, however, I can see how some would be quite deterred… Their sound is incredibly unique as well as style. I’ll say this, if you are a fan of any type of new metal, hard rock, whatever… There is NO WAY you don’t head bang with a furled lip covering one of these songs.

@@angryktulhu You couldn't be much more wrong, my friend. Speaking solely of sound, maybe, but there is a LOT more to a guitar than sound. The body shape and finish, the weight, the build quality, electronics layout, electronics features, neck shape, fret finish, setup, cost...etc etc. What makes a guitar or bass what it is goes on and on. Sure, there isn't a ton of difference in sound guitar to guitar in some styles of music, but tone varies MASSIVELY in some styles...try playing a BB King song on an active EMG 81/85 metal guitar or Meshuggah on a Strat or Van Halen on a Takamine for instance. Could it TECHNICALLY work? Maybe. But it's not going to be the same. Moral of the story? People loooooove to go on and on with the whole "gear doesn't matter" thing and they take it way too far. I think that sentiment started out as a way to remind kids and n00bs that simply buying that shiny new EVH Wolfgang isn't going to magically turn you into Eddie, which is obviously true, but it's morphed into this weird...like...dismissal of gear...or something. It's weird. Because, yes. Of COURSE gear matters. 100% it does. For myriad reasons. And I love my Ibanez-es...or whatever the plural of "Ibanez" is. lol My new AEWC32FMRSF (CATCHY, Ibanez...) should be here Thursday! 😁

Well, you were quite brave to tackle Korn on a "sounds like"! The entire Korn sound is based around the group, not the individual, so any isolated instrument will not sound all that good on its own, especially since Korn is very groove oriented with the bass and drums providing a launch pad for that wall of aggressive low tuned guitar riffage. I'll go even further and say that, that sound only works well because of Jonathan Davis voice works as a binding between the instrumentals. Very unique, very iconic, and no wonder no other band exists that can copy the formula.

@@griffinlindal a drum setup doesn't have a "tone" too them in the same sense as a bass or guitar rig does. Yes, shell materials, sizes, cymbals, skins etc. all play a part in a good drum sound, but most of it, assuming the skins isn't beaten to death and the cymbals are cracked, is in the hands and, maybe even more importantly, the production. Black Sabbath's paranoid is a good example of a great drummer behind a good quality kit sounding pretty box-y and empty due to production. Of course I'd love to see a "sounds like-band" if you will, but guitar and (in some cases, as previously mentioned) bass is the meat and potatoes of it

Primus is better example of this way. The bass carries the main part of the track and the guitar noodles around some licks or just drones behind it. Larry has got my respect for taming his ego so much, he's very good guitarist and so overshadowed.

Wow. It's cool to see this particlar Jackson, because this is the model that I own. And also the first seven string I ever bought (and for even cheaper price than you are talking about). With DR-DDT strings it sounds amazing, the tuning is absolutely stable, no trouble with drop tunings. And if the pickups are too hot, you just roll back the volume pot a little bit. Amazing instrument for ridiculously low money.

Anyway, this was not bad actually. The sound of the band is definitely different. You don't have the bass, the drum and the rest of the band. But the basic sound of the guitar is really similar, in my opinion. I guess multi effects pedal are not the same as regular pedals when you try to craft the sound. But even that was ok. Great Job!!!
