The chorus that seems to be on everything from Fair Warning on was actually an Eventide Harmonizer. Eddie would set one side slightly detuned. He most likely got the idea from being a pianist. Most pianos have three strings per key. One popular method of tuning them is to tune the center string dead on the pitch, and the outside pair slightly sharp and flat. It creates a natural chorus, and using a harmonizer in the same manner adds a certain fatness to the tone.

He's really not so different than most of us. You accumulate gear and make it work then ya upgrade, mod etc., then ya get bored and try somethin else. I whole-heartedly disagree. For one, there's no phaser on ATBL in the intro. Just plate reverb. slap-back tape-echo delay, and flanger on the 2 notes that have the modulated effect. And his notes don't have the same amount of gain to get that EPIC sound that the echo and reverb accentuate.

Just so much metal over the pickups. Second, put extra springs in the trem system. Without the extra reinforcement you can actually see the bridge lifting up. And last, watch your neck. The first strat I did this to was an old squire and I noticed very quickly I was having to adjust the truss rod to keep everything straight. So freaking worth it though

This is not as hard as people seem to make it. While Stevie used several amps over the years, a good shortcut is a tube screamer or clone pushing a fender vibroverb or similar into grit. Then a Marshall clean biting through it with it's clean using alnico 2x12s. Size .12-.13 strings help with raking. Dial the TS with level all the way up and drive almost all the way down. Some Mesas can get close to this tone without the extra marshall. DO NOT use TEXAS SPECIALS with large strings, it will just sound muddy. Low output pickups are what is called for. The Texas specials were designed to help people sound like SRV without the large strings, But SRV really did not like them that much as he never played live with them. You can also use the bassbreaker to sound like SRV, Push the amp a bit the same way with a TS like pedal with level up and drive down. You WILL get close enough without ten amps. Practice your raking. Practice and Enjoy!

The show was really interesting as always and I enjoyed the build up, but I wasn't really convinced you would get a Fender amp to come anywhere near EVH's tone. Not that I'm an expert. Just something I was thinking as you went through the process. When you started Playing Panama i absolutely started listening on a different level. The tone seems perfect. i was sent straight back to the 80s. Really all done. Much impressed and really thankful I watched this.
