Nice tag. Loved seeing Erykah on there. P.S. Don't shy away from longer videos. Take your time and let the vibes flow...............

Sage advice! I appreciate you checking out the video. Erykah Badu is wonderful. Any of the soulquarian stuff from that era is great. Not cheap to find on vinyl these days but ohhh so good!

Fantastic video. Great to see the wonderful Rev Al Green in your tag. He's really the business. Joss Stone and Tom Jones are certainly soul singers. And Mahlia Jackson is a legend. Enjoyed watching .

Excellent job. You showed some stuff I haven't seen before and some we don't see very often.

Loved the soundtrack behind you. Great stuff! Solid picks. Funny. Hip hop was my gateway to soul as well. The Golden Age had more samples than you could shake a stick at! Cheers!😁

Glad you enjoyed it! The soundtrack was an old K-tel record, believe it or not. A compilation of early reggae and rock steady hits. Great value. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Take care

Cool tag, man. Thank you for playing a few of your selections. I love Latin soul. I've got the VMP copy of Ray Baretto Acid. Fantastic copy. Fantastic video, I just subbed.

Thanks for the kind word. I’ve been on the fence about the VMP issue. By the time you do the currency conversion and add internal shipping to Canada it gets pretty pricy. Really hoping Craft does a bit more affordable reissue soon. I really enjoy the Latin soul from the late 60s and I don’t hear it talked about often. I love adding in a few needle drop or two when I can. Thanks for the support. Take care.

Still haven't picked up the second Black Pumas myself...the first was kind of an impulse buy, wasn't blown away at first then it grew and grew over repeated listens, love it when that happens. Ray really doesn't get shown a lot for what a massive artist he was, maybe the discography is just too intimidating. Mahalia is underrated as well. Oldies But Goodies, nice one there, probably got all the songs somewhere or other but never heard that. Early stuff indeed ranging from Jamaican r&b (which is where it all started, really) through to ska, rocksteady and early reggae. Soul was an incalculable influence in Jamaica especially guys like Sam Cooke and the Impressions. Love the googly eyes on Al Green! Smells like tween spirit 😂

Lol Tween spirit for sure! It was love at first listen for me with the Black Pumas. I can still remember exactly where I was when I first heard them. I think your right about Ray Charles, such a huge body of work! Oldies but Goodies is a nice collection. I don’t have a lot in this era so comps like this are wonderful for me. I’m not sure what year it was released, late 60s perhaps? All the best.

I really like that Black Pumas release and need to pick up the new release as well. The Marvin Gaye tune is a great choice. Great response.

Thanks Randy. I appreciate you stopping by. Black pumas are fantastic. I really enjoy some of Adrian Quesada’s other work too. Not soul per say but still very interesting stuff. And you can’t go wrong with Marvin Gaye, always a pleaser. Take care

Somewhat outside my wheelhouse, but I enjoyed your picks and liked the "long form" responses. I don't think you should fret on taking too long. I'm here to see people being passionate about their music, however long it may be. It may actually be even further outside my wheelhouse than I thought, because I didn't realize Stax was such a prominent label, and I basically share a name with it!

When I first saw your channel, I though it might be a channel dedicated to the label. They are a soul, R&B, and funk label. Thanks for the feedback on the long format! I try to be concise but with 20 questions it gets difficult. Making these video I often fee a sort of inertia effect. It’s difficult to get going but once I start I can’t stop. Lol. In any case, thanks a bunch for stopping in!

I can see that name being a little misleading now. The story behind my name is nowhere near as interesting. Just had to create a Xbox account at my friends house on the spot, and now 20+ years later I'm still using it. I totally understand the inertia effect! But hey, if you have any insight to share, I'm all for it!

I thought you might be able to pull this one off! I have checked and subbed his channel as well, great stuff. I think that is a good pass on worrying about that one, we will find you another copy if need be, but now its probably even more important to you :-) Joss Stone is great in ANY format Bonnie Tyler written by Jim Steinman of Meatloaf fame, I dig that song. Is it wrong to think of I'm sorry Miss Jackson when I hear the name Jackson? I wanted to try this one but did'nt think I could do it justice so I have decided just to watch and educate myself. I have a fair bit, but would love more. Again great stuff Curtis thanks for that.
