Your tutorials (particularly for these more obscure Raizing titles) are fantastic! Love the effective explanations and the other facts about the game thrown in there.

Thanks! I appreciate it. There are plans for a Dimahoo one next, I hope.

Solid Soukyugurentai gameplay is quite rare to come by, and with informative commentary to top it off. Really enjoyed this one!

Finally ordered this game after wanting it forever. Can't wait to get it and dig into it. I also got R-type Delta for PS1 too. Something about the 32-bit era shooters that really appeal to me. Thank you for the upload.

Yes, mid-90s shooters are my favorites as well. 96-98 maybe the best years, at least for arcades? Haven't played Delta much yet, but would like to. Hope you enjoy them!

@@DMC_stg I hope you've had the time to play some R-Type Delta. If you enjoy these same kinds of games we do, you would love that one. Very similar atmosphere as Soukyugurentai.

it is in the top5 ultimate shooters. A cool note about this game is, if you use an ST Key on a real Saturn it'll translate some of the menus. An ST Key is a cartridge people would use to play (official not burned CDr) imports on a Saturn without needing to install a mod chip. Personally I installed a mod chip on a black japanese saturn with circular buttons (a later model). But I still have the ST Key in order to play US/Eur games before I got the mod chip.

For everyone emulating these Saturn titles I highly recommend using one of those I think they're called "Retro bit" Saturn-style USB gamepad or a real Saturn gamepad to USB converter box. This game specifically is good with a real 3D analog Saturn controller / Nights into Dreams controller.

Thanks for sharing! I also like the Retro bit Saturn pads, they feel great. I have had some bad luck though with the d pads losing sensitivity after a while, but maybe Retro bit have improved the build quality since then. I have also used the Raphnet PC to Saturn USB adapter: www.raphnet-tech.com/products/saturn_to_usb_adapter_v2/index.php

Amazing run, thanks for uploading and offering commentary too! Fantastic resource for an underappreciated game. Do you have any tips for dodging the missile pattern at 27:16 ? I have had a lot of runs end to that attack... It only seems to come out once in your fight against it so I'm struggling to figure out what your movement strategy is.

Thanks, Dan! What I do at 27:16 is what I always try to there. Start around bottom center, go left or right halfway to the side or until the missiles almost catch up (i.e., until the background is just black space) and then 90 degree sharp turn up, and at the very end another slight turn back to the side again. If you look at NAL's run at 12:40, he does it twice there (www.bilibili.com/video/BV1ot411j7bA/?p=2)

Then I must play Raycrisis! It seems they were influenced by Raystorm during development: " We were developing for the ST-V hardware, but during development the Playstation version of Raystorm came out, and I remember being shocked at how good the 3D was there, and feeling there was no way we could match it."

@@DMC_stg It's quite interesting to see that Toyama Yuichi sorta had an inferiority complex (it shows in the game preservation society interview too) for not being able to do 3D, while he and Raizing made some of the most beautifull and detailed sprite based games ever made !

@@Prickly_Angler Wow, I missed that interview. Thanks! And 30 minutes as well, really looking forward to watching this later this week (kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6J2vNiyqLe8kbg.html). But I agree with you, maybe I should have mentioned in this video Raizing had plans to make Soukyugurentai 3D by letting the player switch to a first-person POV during the game (shmuplations.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/rsz_img004.jpg)
