I am so glad that you gave us all those tips, I used to let the maid to change the dollars for me, because I was afraid to walk with that much money. I stayed at VILLA LAS TORTUGAS in Sosua Puerto Plata, and they treated me so well and when with mw everywhere just because they were so nice. I heard them negotiating everything and I learned. Paying attention is very important. Thank you!

been there two times and I can just agree! we were even once on the beach in full diving gear, (bottle already on the back) approached by such an aggressive lady and she also just would not stop, only when we submerged she gave up. 😂

As a National of D.R. must say that the suggestion u gave of minding ur manners is well said. Attracting attention in D.R. all its gonna get u is robbed. Having said that every Northerner of the island , like myself, know what Sosua is famous for and even when most of us are looking for that type of entertainment go no where near it. Much better looking women in the countries interior...especially new influx of Venezuelans that leave ours in the dust!!!!

If you are truly going to immerse yourself in the Domincan then learn all the spanish you can before going and learn from there. That is the ultimate respect because you are going to live there or even just want to explore the country. It is a spanish speaking country. If you are going to the Sosua Tourist Strip for fun for a small period of time then don't waste your time with it. You know what you need that does the talking. There are still guys saying "la cuento" "tiene bonito caballo." Just like this gentleman just said "buenas días." no it is "buenos días."

Answer to #2 : from what i know about DR as a whole.. the country has abnormally high tax rates. You’ll notice something that says “ITBIS” on your receipt.. that is a mandatory 18% TAX that you must pay whether you’re buying food at restaurants, bar, grocery stores etc.

If a taxi from the bomba charged you 30.00 then it would be because a lack of spanish to tell them and they got you. It is pretty if that did happen. If you get in the public taxi with people it is 75 pesos (setenta y cinco pesos) to puerto plata.

My brother, all due respect but a taxi from Sosua to Puerto Plata is NOT 150 pesos. It’s a minimum 1000 pesos or $20. Could be more with 2 passengers. Now, to get it cheaper there is the unofficial taxi right across from the metro station where you can barter the fee. Usually you can settle on $10-$15 bucks. Not sure where you got your numbers from but NO taxi in Sosua is going to take you 15-20 minutes to Puerto Plata for 150 pesos or $2.50🤷🏽‍♂️

I took a public shared taxi (Carritos), from Sosua to Puerto plata and I paid 150 pesos for two people. The car was tight on the way. They pack them in…but it was 150 pesos. We took the Gua Gua on the way back. That was a little better but we also paid 150 pesos. Next time I will document the ride and post it.

@@Curtworrell Brother Curt, I believe you but that’s not the norm. A standard taxi will cost much more. Kudos to you for being able to find such a deal! At $2.50 that’s less than the gas it would take to actually get to Puerto Plata that’s why I was saying it’s not the norm. The probability of most being able to get that price is very slim is all I am saying

No thats a "gua gua" price price that he is referencing (a small bus with many people) i did a video on this about a bit more than a year ago.. But its more like about 80 pasos per person. If you take a PUBLIC shared taxi car, its 90 paesos from puerto plata to Sosua by the taxi park N vice Versa..or ask the same public taxi guy to take you ALONE.. SOLO its from 400 to 500 paesos..but the driver will gringo you if you are in Sosua trying to go to puerto plata city. The Private taxis are more.. Hope this helps all the newbies..including KZreadrs. If in doubt go to Flip Flops sports bar (the yellow steps by the entrance to the beach) and ask Greg the owner he has lived there for Donkey Years in Sosua . Bless up!

You will pay at LEAST $18 - $20 or 1,000 Pesos and thats to the Airport which is not even in the City of Puerto Plata .... especially if 2 people are in the Car ..
