Sossusvlei filled with water (part 2)

At the end of January 2021 the Tsauchab river was again in flood. There was already water in Sossusvlei and this added much more water again. This was a wonderful experience. Nature at its best and beautiful scenery.

Is this the only time rain falls in measurable amounts in this area? Is there any way to slow the water and make it do more work?

Rain falls only every 3rd or 5th year for the grass to grow. There can be up to 6 or 7 eyars of drought. Sossus can fill from the Tsauchab river when there is no rain bur the rain falls on the escarpment 100 kms away!

seems to me like seasonal floods could be captured in dams and used for irrigation and pasture land with a series of large earthen dams.
