Sorting All of My LEGO!

Ойын-сауық

I broke down and sorted all of my LEGO! At the beginning of the day, 9 massive bins of LEGO needed to be sorted... now there are only 6 and they are nicely broken down by size. I had so much LEGO that needed to be broken down, whether that be partially built sets, existing mocs, or mini builds. After breaking it down I sorted all of the loose parts by size by processing them through my massive sorter from petesquared23.com

Have spent a few days , 6 hours a day sorting. I love it. My back ….. not so much . I am so happy you are sorting . Tfs

I think 15 minutes a day of sorting would be more doable -- and more productive over time.

Also, I wonder if it makes sense to stop acquiring lots of new Lego pieces until you actually know what you have floating around in your unsorted bins. :)

The problem I have with doing it in such small time chunks is that you find yourself taking up a bunch of space that you don't want to just leave like that for days on end.

Once I get started sorting, I might go for 45 minutes, or 2 hours. Really, just committing to sit down and start, and having the space and extra containers is the hard part. He will have the space soon. I agree that trying to push for an hour every day isn't sustainable though.

From my experience sorting in short bursts like that is very inefficient. However it can work somewhat well if you're like "today I'm sorting gray, tomorrow red etc." But it usually doesn't work like that

Two reasons why sorting done in short time spans doesn't work so well: - Sorting is only part of it, you then need to store what you sorted, so sorting more becomes more efficient because you store more pieces at a time. - Sorting can get you in a kind of a flow, you become more efficient as you are doing it, and you need 10 to 15 minutes to go into a flow

There's definitely positives of having such a big parts collection... but definitely the negatives too 😅 I can't wait to see the new place ❤

A bit off topic, but are you using the built in noise cancelling feature on the DJI mic? Can hardly hear the lego and your voice sounds clear still. Pretty effective if you are. I'm a videogrpaher so interested in that sort of thing. Thanks

I wonder how you keep your parts list on bricklink updated. Do you only update it when you buy parts from the wall? Or are all those parts you sorted right now also on your inventory list?

Hey Jordan idk if you mentioned it in the last QnA but I was going to suggest if you have the space making a big moon planet and maybe putting so lego Star Wars sets on it or make a moon base and maybe u could hang the ISS near a earth planet

Jordan is getting ready to move to his new space. If he builds more sets or MOC right now, he'd have to transport them. He won't be sorting or building until after the move. Those bins are ready to go on a moving truck as-is!

I think you should break down by piece type and color. That would be a MASSIVE undertaking, but when you’re finished, you’ll have your own Lego store part wall! It would be incredible!

Definitely by piece type, but sorting by color may not be worth the effort, since finding a specific color piece is quite easy anyways when it is already sorted by piece type.

  • @Nphen

    @Nphen

@@NisseHult101 Jordan's parts wall already has a lot of bins sorted by both part type, and color. Likely his most tedious task will be taking what's in the bins, and sorting it into piles or smaller bins at the table, so as not to be running back and forth from the parts wall. I don't have enough drawers to have that problem; most of my part types are mixed color. But sorting thousands of parts really melts your brain.

kinda wish i had the problem of sorting legos...sadly had to get rid of a lot of lego about 20 YEARS ago... and i wish i could have kept it now because the prices have jumped a lot since then, not that they were cheap then either.... what i have now is a vastly reduced amount of legos, and one set is not true lego since the Halo sets were an off brand i believe.... one day i might rebuild, but for now it's a limited amount of bricks...
