Your approach of using multiple reference photos for full body drawings is quite insightful. It's common to use one wide shot for the overall body structure and additional close-up shots for intricate details like the face, hands, or any specific features you want to emphasize

The things we are willing to do for art! The general population have no idea how much effort goes into one art piece. Personal reference photos are copyrighted. It is shocking that people can even think it is appropriate to ask for your personal reference photos.

I love this. I feel like when it comes to painting it's easier to draw from a reference and I'm always perplexed at how people come up with some interesting perspectives and I'm curious if they all just have brains capable of knowing how light and shadow will fall on something or if they are using reference photos. This mirrors how my creative process is which in a way extends to other mediums as well and this also just shows the level of dedication from start to finish your work takes.

I'm curious about the photos you use for the full body drawings. Do you use one reference photo, like a wide shot of the entire body or are there multiple close-up photos, like one for the head, torso, hands etc to get the tiny details? Maybe my camera doesn't have the resolution but if I tried to take a full body shot I would lose the detail in places like the eyelashes even if I cropped the photo in certain areas to enlarge them. My only solution would be to take one full body photo for a general reference and then take several close up photos for the tiny details

My art professor insists that our reference photos are ones that we've taken ourselves. Not allowed to download someone else's images from the internet. Creating my own reference photos does add another layer of creativity. The composition is now mine and mine alone. The completed artwork is then so much more than just rendering someone else's vision.

I really think that the best was to improve my art (apart from LOTS of drawing) is to improve my photography! My main subject is wildlife though, access to models can be tricky! I’m planning to upgrade my camera equipment and take a photography class, so that should help. I’ll also take a look at you Patreon - thank for this video!

Those reference pictures are part of the final picture, on some level, in my opinion.

The photographs are the most essential part of your artistic process, together with composition and, of course, the act of drawing itself. Asking you to share your reference images is like, I don't know, being invited for dinner at some people's house and requesting to take home all the food left, ramming into their fridge. It's just rude. I think people who asked you this question did not spend time looking at your videos and website to really understand your work.

I actually want to (politely, hopefully!) disagree with you Jono. I don't think the barrier to entry is high. As my entry point, my phone, sunlight, and a mid-tone sheet have been good enough. Granted, my compositions are relatively simple (no models and no antlers 😂) but to me, those aren't entry-level either. Something about necessity and invention, I think. 😁

Gee...I would hope that you would *very deeply and carefully* research *_any_*_ substance_ before pouring it into your eyes!!! The potential damage... which might occur _immediately,_ or possibly _weeks later,_ depending upon the properties of the substance... *_absolutely_* outweighs *ANY* benefit you might gain from the use of the resulting photo reference! Frankly, as a visual artist, I am shocked that *you* of all people... that is to say, one who should surely understand the *_irreplaceable_* value of your eyes... without question, *the* _most important_ of *_all_* of your art creation tools, would so cavalierly put a substance which you do not have complete and absolute understanding of on your eyes!
