Fun fact for you: the song "pretending" is actually a stretched out, altered version of a different song SOPHIE did. She mentions that she felt like the original song was too straight forward, so she decided to turn it into this immense ambient experience. If you look up "SOPHIE pretending sped up" you can hear the line "I was just pretending".

her PRODUCT compilation is what put SOPHIE on the map as a producer if you wanna hear more from her

I like to think that some of SOPHIEs tracks are cinematic. I’d close my eyes on songs like Not Okay, Infatuation, and Pretending and I’d imagine what kind of movie it would be in. I get a sci-fi dystopian feel most of the time and that’s due to the heavy production and like you said, unnerving sounds. But then it’ll change into a soft melody and there’s a sense of beauty and desolation like you could be floating in space surrounded by the stars. Songs on this album are extremely atmospheric and really can paint some incredible visuals, like how soundtracks in movies do! That’s what makes this album so incredible and visceral. Then the faster paced tracks like Immaterial feel so clubby and you just want to get up and dance! It’s all just soooo good 🖤

Even though we only have 1 album and a compilation, thankfully a lot of her unreleased material can be found on youtube and soundcloud, and a lot of them are straight-up bangers. Her collab with FKA twigs called Beauty/Lies or Psalms (depending on where you look) is probably my favourite track she has ever produced.

Infatuation is actually her being infatuated with her future self. With wanting to be that person and fully grown, knowing fully who she is. This related to her trans experience, but I feel that it is deeper as I heavily relate to it, just being infatuated with my future self. Someone who knows how they fit in the world more then they do now.

Loved to see you enjoy the experience of listening to this album! If i had to describe the song 'not okay' i would say it sounds like a sonical interpretation of having a stroke lmaoo. Btw, if you are curious for more Sophie material you have to listen (and possibly react) to Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides (NON-STOP REMIX ALBUM). In this project, Sophie created a whole subverted universe to the original album with completely new interpretations of each song. It is incredible and in my opinion her best released work

Pretending is how she perceived her life before she came out as trans, she was pretending, and Immaterial was the freedom she needed and deserved.

I love how this album took him on a whole ass trip, Pretending gave him existential dread, immaterial injected him with adrenaline and dopamine and towards the end with whole new world he was totally unhinged and losing it LOL

She declared whole new world and actually proceeded to build it in second half!!

I've been enjoying your reactions. I particularly like to see other people reacting to Sophie's sound without being close to her art. I wish she was still with us to produce other amazing things like with OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S . And I would also like you to react to Fka Twigs' MAGDALENE album, which is also indescribably amazing!

Thank you for reacting. A really innovative artist. I feel like she had so much more to offer. I strongly recommend Woodkid - On Then And Now (feat. Jennifer Connelly) with a similar yet different experimental pop vibe.

I think that the lyrics in Sophie's songs is short, but it is so deep and meaningful... Just a few words represent more for me than lots of them but being always the same compare to other artists.

I’d say half of her music is unreleased and can only be found on SoundCloud really it’s insane
