    I noticed too, that in Active Stab mode with the slight crop there was less "twitching" on the sides of the image as compared to Dynamic Stab mode. Great work, as usual. Looking forward to seeing more of your experiences with the ZV-E1.

    Grandpa Jenkins, nestled in the crook of a well-worn rocking chair, Bessie his golden dog sprawled lazily at his feet, broke the slow rhythmic creak of the old porch to clear his throat. Between sips of ice-cold lemonade, sweet with the tang of summer, his voice wove tales into the warm air of Lensville, like silk threads of a vintage tapestry. "Y'know, kids, this here world is a wide canvas. A lot like the lens of a camera. Like the Sony 11mm F1.8 lens." He pointed at an imaginary piece of equipment in the air, his gnarled fingers like the worn roots of an old oak tree. "Why, that lens can take in the vastness of landscapes, the sweeping hills, and the towering pines of our mountains, capturing the whispers of beauty that the universe paints daily. Much like our man Bill used to do." A distant hum in his voice brought to life the faded image of a man named Bill, a police officer from the halcyon days of the 1970s. Back when his badge shone bright and the weight of the world hadn't settled on his shoulders. He was a man that saw more than most, behind the veil of civility into the grit and grime. But Bill loved to escape, as any man tethered to the burdens of society would. When the mountains of Lensville beckoned, he would take the winding path, twenty miles from the familiarity of paved roads, down an old logging trail, where the whispers of the wild drowned the noise of civilization. "Bill liked the quiet," Grandpa Jenkins continued, scratching Bessie behind her ear, her tail thumping rhythmically against the wooden planks. "Said it made him feel like he was the only soul around. But the universe, my dear ones, has a funny way of surprising us." Bill's tale took a turn when he was out camping, sitting among the tiny, wide-eyed tots, his voice a soft echo in the wilderness about the beauty of solitude. Suddenly, the surreal silence was broken by the creaking wheels and jingling harnesses of an old wagon train, pulled by sturdy horses. A familiar voice cut through the mountain air, "Hey Bill!" "Bill just shook his head," Grandpa Jenkins chuckled, his eyes gleaming with the punchline of the cosmic joke. "Imagine, in the heart of wilderness, away from another soul, and this happened. It was like a quantum entanglement, his solitude and the sudden appearance of the wagon train, bound by some unseen cosmic thread." Just then, a mountain lion screamed on a nearby hill, a raw sound of wildness that sent a shiver through the air. The kids, startled, scrambled towards the safety of the tents. The unseen mountain cat's scream, a stark reminder of nature's unpredictability, tied back to the tale of Bill in a strange, profound way. As the lemonade dwindled in his glass, Grandpa Jenkins' story seemed to meld with the surroundings. His voice, the chirping birds, the occasional rustle of Bessie's fur, all elements in a vividly painted scene, like photographs taken with the newly released Sony ZV-E1 paired with the wide 11mm F1.8 lens. "Such is life, my young ones," he concluded. "It's wide and sprawling like a wide lens capturing a landscape. It can be quiet and solitary like Bill's camping trip, startling and unexpected like that wagon train, and wild and unpredictable like that mountain lion's scream. It's all about the perspective, much like the camera lens that frames the view." In Lensville, under the wizened gaze of Grandpa Jenkins and the golden sprawl of Bessie, the sun set on another day. The children left with the echo of the tale and the unique flavor of lens-captured reality, enriched with life's surprises, always unfolding in its wide, unpredictable landscape.

    Since i just got my ZV E1 last week, I've been eagerly awaiting any and all vids from you on using it. And this was a very timely vid because yesterday I went out and filmed with it and used my Sony 11. F1.8 lens (and the kit lens that came with it) for the vlog I'm dropping this coming Thursday. One interesting thing about the E1 is that it actually allows a small bit of digital zoom with prime lenses. I used digital zoom of 1.3x with the 11 mm lens while filming in dynamic stabilization and had almost no vignetting at all. On looking at the film on the computer, the quality was still great. I so look forward to more ZV E1 vids from you to help an old guy learn the camera. Thanks!

When I first got the zve10 I couldn't get accurate colours at first but got there eventually with PP3. With the very wide 11ml your hands looked enormous and the movement gopro like. If you want to use the dynamic active stabe the clear zoom is disabled by you can still switch to digital zoom and crop in some more. I was testing that with my 17-70 f2.8 and I found that dynamic active gives you about 1.2 times crop. If you do 1.2 digital zoom in top of that you should not be able to see the vignetting and you will benefit from the better stabilisation.

    Great video as always Mark! Is there a difference in quality using the 11m on the zve1? Since it doesn’t have crop mode, is it basically the same as the 20m 1.8, just wider at 11m? I’m looking at getting one of these lenses, but if the 20m 1.8 is better since it’s a full frame lens, that’s a big factor for me.

In your opinion, does the added benefit of IBIS and active stabilization outweigh the cheaper cost of the zve10? And using the 11mm on a full frame camera would I be using any quality? Ultimately unsure of which setup makes the most sense - I plan to use it for vlogging so lots of moving around.

    As an active vlogger who makes videos in places like theme parks, I rented the 11mm for my ZV-E1 to test it on Dynamic Active (for the smoothest stabilization and to reduce post-recording work). I don’t think it’s perfect, as the edges often still show and even cropping it 25% on Adobe Premiere ends up having the focal length be comparable to my Sigma 16-28 with DA on. Looking forward to the day we get an affordable FE wide lens that is designed with the Dynamic Active stabilization in mind. Or if anyone has recommendations that’s be great too. Great video as always Mark!

    It’s funny seeing this video. I tried out several lenses on ZV-E1 the other day EXCEPT for the 11mm. I tried the Sony 10 to 20mm f4, the 15mm 1.4 g lens, the 16mm 2.8 Sony pancake lens and the Samyang 18mm 2.8. I think that the 10-18mm is realistically more usable at 12mm, however that warping/distortion comes in quick the moment you are off center, which makes sense given how much scope you are getting. The 15mm 1.4 actually worked out nicely. The vignetting didn’t come in too often when in dynamic and same thing as you mention, clear image zoom also helps in active. The 16mm pancake lens had an interesting softer look to it that reminded me of what people aim to achieve with pro mist filters. The Samyang seemed too sharp when comparing it with the 15mm 1.4 g lens. So I think of the aforementioned the 15mm was my favorite and showed the least amount of undesirable warping/distortion. I think the 15mm is also cool because it gives you one extra button that is quite helpful with a camera like the ZV-E1.

I’ll be using it mainly as a travel video camera for shooting landscapes, architecture, friends and family. The small size of the 16-35 is appealing but f4 feels a tad slow. 20mm is a good focal length and Clear Image zoom might make up for the lack of physical zoom. What would you suggest?

    I just bought that lens to pair with my zv-e1, not with my A74, after watching your useful video. A few things i experienced, similar to yours: - dynamic active stabilization still produces annoying vignetting, unless you don’t move much which defeats the purpose of such stabilization. - active stabilization with 1.4 clear zoom resolves the vignetting - frame stabilizer is actually the best method for me. It center-crops, no vignetting, and stabilizes the footage, at least i think it does and the manual does bot mention that so i could be wrong. - clear image zoom seems to slightly deteriorate the footage quality, and that’s noticeable - useless for photography, very poor image quality in aps-c mode or with clear image zoom. Good with the A74 in aps-c mode due to the larger sensor pixels count. The thing is, i edit my videos to output in portrait mode so in editing the vignetting is gone anyway. I did compare 16:9 vs 9:16 and i find the former a bit crisper, probably because no extra portrait crop. The focal length with stabilization is good, but I’m on the fence whether to keep that lens or not as i don’t want to crop in post-edit at times. I tried the 20mm f.1.8 and it is too tight with active stabilization.

  • @TaylorPassofaro

    @TaylorPassofaro

    Жыл бұрын

    One of the issues is that not all APSC lenses overproject their image circle to such a degree that dynamic stabilization would work as well as the 11mm f1.8 here. The overprojection of the image circle on that lens is really quite great as seen in Chris Frost's review (kzread.info/dash/bejne/imh4k86YeM29pLQ.html). I would be curious to see if an 18-105 would work! Here's a spreadsheet of apsc coverage on full frame, but I don't see any obvious 18-105 lenses that would work well, docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tSuVwWQDFzPEI9RmrFG9fMzP2D6avFkHUBDYinL5PWg/edit?usp=sharing

    10-18mm f4 2nd hand or 10-20mm f4 new fixes this issue easily as you can optically zoom in a little to avoid the vignetting. Well, not 1.8 but for vlogging maybe that's not a problem. These wide zooms come with in lens stabe for even better results. Goal is to avoid Catalyst Slowser...
