Samsung made a great step up from S8, keeping it's good design and only fixing what was wrong last year, like Fingerprint Sensor's placement, and RAM management... However, the XZ2 really looks so attractive and innovative. It's a media powerhouse in my opinion... And it seems it's driving you crazy that it can't stay still on the table lol... Sony takes the display game seriously XZ Premium for example The first 4K phone HdR ready Besides LCD panel are brighter and have better contrasts Im not this anti Samsung guy .This is coming from a guy who can show some genuine shortcomings of S8/S9 : they're not that different and I actually prefer Note 8 for things that wont change like s Pen,the design etc If S9 had this 4K the Android authority would brag how it increases their productivity Some bright spots for Sony 1.They are willing to change design .FINALLY. Not that the Previous XZ was crap .It looks hellasexy it's just that it's a bit tired. 2.Super fast Updates aside from Pixel. 3.Having things like micro SD ,headphone jack ,stereo speakers 4.The camera that was OP . 5.Clean Software ( literally any phone is trimmed down against sammy I can't say everything here.

I still think Sony is the overall winner. Samsung stepped up the speakers but the instrument separation and mid range on the phone speakers are quite a bit more muffled. Also turn off that skin smoothing effect on the Sony man. It looks horrible haha

nikhil foka it’s gimmick, nothing more. Super Amoled is the best display in the market. Making LCD with more saturated colours doesn’t make it better, there are standards like sRGB and DCI P3... not to mention black colour in Amoled is actual black unlike Sony’s screen. The future is MicroLED, but as of now Samsung has the best displays and nothing even comes close.

Just wait for the Xz2 premium with better camera specs expected more ram and hopefully they'll return the headphone jack. They should also try and reduce the bezels slightly more especially the bottom part on the premium version. That would be the perfect phone.

And this is not even the Sony XPERIA XZ2 Premium yet. The only thing that the Samsung Galaxy S9+ is significantly better than the Sony XPERIA XZ2 is their superior Super AMOLED display, their design, and their marketing lol. And yet, Sony's IPS display doesn't look that much different than Samsung's Super AMOLED display. Other than that, Sony is better for the rest. Even Samsung's camera lens actually produced by Sony. Just like Apple iPhone X's Super AMOLED display that is produced by Samsung.

FYI, in some region Xperia xz2 come with 6gb ram too so it should be test again

S9 is better than XZ2. The only reason I'm considering an XZ2 is because you get free headphones with it, which you can't use with the headphone jack ironically. :P You get really expensive $380 bluetooth headphones for free if you pre-order the XZ2. That's like 50% more value than the S9.

Sam Fisher You see where U lost it right? Dude, did you ask yourself why those same "Res" didn't make the S9+ score lower on video playback. What ever it scores even now is just credited to it beign a good AMOLED and this thing is having a 3500mah. My bigger surprise is that it's keeping up with the XZ2. Thought we are in for another Sony class. Although it's kid brother is still in a D..k measuring contest with the likes of the 5T and XZP.

Had the Sony Ericsson arc, Sony S, Z, Z1, Z2, Z5p, ZXp. (I'm a big Sony fan) Sony Bravia TV's are the only TV's I buy. PS fan with a ps4(give it to the kids) and a ps4 pro, Sony home theatre systems ect. I'm overdosing on Sony. The lack of headphone jack made me get the S9+. Pretty happy with it so far, the AMOLED screen is amazing outdoors. I can actually watch a video in sunlight. Plus the Dolby Atmos powered speakers are up there with the best of them. I can actually here the music when I'm in the shower. I think I'd really miss those features when/if I go back to Sony. If Sony had a headphone jack an oled screen and tuned speakers. It would be the best phone out. Come on Sony, you were the walkmam guys. The cybershot guys and your Tv's were the best screens around. Pull it all together. PLEASE.

I got used to it pretty quickly, and it has some advantages as well. You don't easily confuse the camera for fingerprint scanner because they are well separated. Funny side note, even when I accidentally grab the phone upside down I still unlock it with fingerprint scanner because the location is quite central on the phone, so works both ways lol.

I would say this one is a tie as it was a very close match up. Putting aside the insignificant difference in this speed test with Sony you get a fresh new design, some new features (i.e wireless charging, new vibration system) and with Samsung you get all the best features in a smartphone (I hate bixby though).

Not a very big fan of Samsung but I gotta admit s9+ feels like the better device. I wonder how the software will perform after a few months.

Yes crapmoled penline is poor in subpixels, brightness, details and use old 8 bits display and false hdr. Ips xz2 have 10 bits and hdr rec 2020, more brightness and hdr real, It also has Bravia TV image processing

I've never really looked at Sony phones much. And then I bought an XA1 Ultra a couple months ago and I'll probably always buy Sony from now on, I'm that impressed.

Phone Battles is almost to full brightness, there is still this orange bar that you didnt slide across. A notification will appear as you slide it across the orange bar.. theres quite a significant difference in brightness

Sick as for the screen you can turn the brightness up..240 fps 1080 no time-limit is more important looks the bomb bigger screen. Price is a huge difference between the two that should not be forgotten. I got a sweet deal in pre order. Picked up the XZ2 for 700 euros, with bluetooth headphones included worth 380 euros. The S9+ costs more than 900 euros.

Any speed difference's in speed is negligible and split second difference's make no difference in real world use. The Samsung S9 plus is the most complete smartphone ever released. It has an incredible display and the best in any smartphone (see display mate), stereo speakers that are as good if not better than the competition, still has a headphone jack with akg tuned headphones (that sound really good by the way), has one of the of the best cameras in a smartphone (subjective which is best), it has expandable storage, ip68 water resistance, performs as well as any top tier smartphone in day to day use. A split second difference in speed definitely shouldn't sway your buying decision one way or the other. All modern smartphones are fast and the edge the Sony XZ premium had in performance over the S8 isn't there anymore. The S9 has been refined to perfection this year.

The S9/S9+ has a good bass since I like speaker mode when watching youtube and movies

XZ2 is great. But get the XZ premium, it's quick, cheaper + headphone jack (ie. Better battery life in the long run). N it's faster than the S9 on most apps, look it up on KZread

I watched this video on my new Sony XZ2 I just got, thinking that I should have gotten the Samsung. Thanks for the side by side, it really confirmed I made the right choice. Xperia all the way!

Jimmy Acosta i have an s9 and the speakers are really loud

Sony have 4gb Ram and ips and still win over the samsung. I couldn't imagine what sony can do with 6 Gb and oled display OMG!!!

Sony has yet to come up with the premium or the pro. XZ2 should be compared with S9, S9+ with XZ2 Premium (or pro).

The S9 sounds louder, because the Dolby Atmos app has a very aggressive normalizer (It rather amplifies all the middle frequencies) and works with youtube.

E. S. The Sony has clear audio on that's why. It kind of lowers instrument output and enhances voice output. I don't use clear audio on my phone.

Foldable phones are coming. These will be antiques in less than 2 years

I think that the sony did a great job on the camera it can match up with the doul camera with f1.5 on the galaxy😍

Is this a fair test? Should it be an Xz2 premium vs the s9+ or Xz2 vs s9?

Samsung is the best

Went to bestbuy, i compared the screen of sony za2 ultra and samsung s9, the screen of sony is pure white like daylight fluorescent, while s9 is like a warmwhite yellowish light. Got LG android but i will try/buy SONY brand unlocked phone.

Sony is the better phone

0.39 he held the phone for only couple of seconds but s9 has already started shwing finger print smudges whereas it is not on the XZ2 even on the black color model...

I like Sony, but I have to admit that Samsung's camera is better.

I love the Ips lcd screens...

And my s8 has dead pixels already. So im hating amoled now. Its My first samsung device cause sonys option is not appealing laat year.
