Gorilla Glass is just chemically hardened glass. Its meant to resist scratches not prevent shattering.

I hope so aswell. The XZ premium was fantastic. loved the design. if sony would bring out the xz2 like the xz, but bezelless with great camera tech and display then I'm sold !

Just rewatched the video and I just noticed one thing. I think at 3:51 (right after you said P20 Pro has better dynamic range), XZ2's picture has better dynamic range and details than P20 Pro. Look at the textures in the building and at the sky, you can see the clouds better on the XZ2. But, it is still a great review.

Great! I'm torn between getting XZ2 or S9+ as the former costs $650 and the latter costs $930 here. Although with that price, I think the XZ2 will be worth to buy, more than S9+. But, I still have questions to ask. 1. What case did you use for the phone? Does it protect the whole phone's Rear side? 2. Is the phone that slippery? 3. How's the camera app? 4. How bright is the display? 5. Does ambient display use a lot of battery? 6. Do you discover any bugs? 7. Pick one colour for me, which one is better to you, black or green/blue? 8. Does the phone feel thick and heavy? 9. XZ2 or S9+? Tell me their own advantages and disadvantages, please. 10. Can I use the bokeh mode to capture portrait shots like on phones with dual cameras? Not sure if this is true, it seems like Mate 8, Honor 8, which came with Android 6.0 are getting Android O. Mate 9 supports project treble... So two major updates, I guess.

iRats 4K Considering the smaller screen you should get better speed and battery life in compact than the normal xz2 The only thing it lacks is the dynamic vibration Sony is the King of the small phones and that's a fact

Sony xz2 is the one of the best phone until now seriously .and It is very much underrated phone idk why???. It has more better future than the s9 and huawei and less costly as well. One of my favorite thing in xz2 is the screeen wow!!! its feel so soft ,so very very soft than the other phones. I buyed this phone later in april ,my friends even my family were telling the screen is too soft and clear even though it is lcd screen but it is great and uniqe . Wow !!! Sony is a great company

I have a Sony laptop myself so I know it sucks. Nonworking wifi out of the box loads of calls to Sony and their response was to send me an USB adapter after a few months of calls then never do anything about it. So many posts on their forum about this and they wouldn't even acknowledge the problem existed at first, users started replacing the wireless card themselves since Sony wouldn't do crap. Never buying anything again from Sony. This is why Sony's failing they deserve to die but by all means keep fanboying and defending such a shitty company if that's your thing.

Bought it before they sold it FYI I'm not stupid. Sony takes full responsibility here. With the way they ran the business and the crappy products they came out with I'm not surprised they had to sell it, wouldn't be surprised at all if they sell the mobile division too within the next few years. This is a video on their phone and let's be honest their laptops and phones simply suck, there's no other way to put it.

Man, XZ2 already beat P20 Pro in good light condition. Dynamic range is beter. It is just the low light problem. If the XZ2 Premium is launched, say goodbye to P20 Pro. If XZ2 Premium does become the top smartphone camera, I wonder what other people thinks of it. They might be like "Oh, this is a Sony device? I thought they stopped making smartphones".

JZ VR Brother don't be so happy. This is a biased video which is fully made inclining for Huawei. The settings was not proper on SONY while doing the video and He did it intentionally.

The XZ2 is on the level of the S9 in terms of camera. Both are great in their way. But I'm waiting for the XZ2 Premium, to see what it can do. They've already done a great job with this camera.

Samsung S9 & S9 plus uses SONY Exmor RS IMX345 image sensor for their camera. So here Samsung's main camera is basically of SONY. Nothing from Samsung. @DCD. Plz don't give toddler jump. Lol

I reckon the dynamic range can be easily fixed if SONY gives the camera app access to RAW permissions rather than JPEG for real time processing and image quality. Can you believe it? This phone has probs the best hardware but SONY haven't allowed the software to support RAW. I wonder if the XZ2PREMIUM will support. I hope so.

i am using xperia x from past 15 months. Right now I am facing blurry issue in camera and sometimes overheating outdoor. as an xperia lover I will say since from the launch of xperia z. all sony mobiles have the same issue of image stabilization after 10-12 months of use. my favorite camera was of the xperia SL🤩.

Sony design on XZ2 is a big try, but I just cant accept it...... it lost it own unique design (side fingerprint sensor)..... why cant they just stick to the old design but making it with a bezel-less display, it would be the blast. Now the phone look like old HTC design

Now make a video XZ2 premium with p20 pro... And I'm sure Sony will be real king.

People whining about dynamic range actually don't know that huawei "AI" camera always set HDR On. But on the sony with superior auto mode, it doesn't always kick "backlight mode" on. You have to set HDR on manually and see the dynamic range will improve

Nice review! i like the image quality of the P20 Pro made by Leica... The Sony Premium however may change all that :)

people always talk crap about sony phones so good to see someone say positive. people judged previous sony phones too much based on their lowlight. but you could take great pictures with some of them.

It had to take a while in the manual mode to make face appears so dark on the XZ2. I tested it under several conditions with my XZ2 and I failed. XZ2 always detects my face in automatic mode and my face is always bright and clear.

I really liked the rear Camera of xz2 but the front camera really very bad so I think i'm gonna buy P20 " Pro " or maybe I'll wait for xz2 premium .. Does anyone know when it will come out ??

Ryuga Law yup i did see that..and im happy that its real..im just wondering 'bout the actual ability of its camera, knowing that sony phones of the past are fond of showcasing the camera in commercial but sometimes disappoint actual use..but seems that xz2 is a potential representative of this.

I like sony & apple approach to dynamic range that not too agressive and artificial like other smartphone, for ex: samsung, huawei & pixel

Why there's no test for huawei slow motion video?

Odd that P20 Pro can also shoot 960fps slow-mo but you didn't include it in the video... Also, as I've been saying, please turn off AI mode when you talk about colour accuracy of P20's photos. Still, great footages from XZ2 though, what Huawei flagships need right now is stabilisation in 4K.

yes but only 720p and not that detailed. It's similar to sony's old sensor, but not the new one. yes that's true, I'm focusing a bit too much on all auto mode. if 4K would be a bit more detailed and stabilized , just like 1080p is, then I would be happy.

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure XZ2's sensor is exactly the same as the one inside XZ Premium and XZ1 (IMX400) and technically those 2 devices are also capable of shooting super slow-mo in FHD resolution. It's just their software which is limiting them from doing so, I reckon. Also I heard that P20 Pro's slow-mo works much better in low-light than those on XZ2 and S9, could you confirm that?

But overexposure & lack of stabilization i 4K bothers me... iv been forwards & back between what phone will replace my over 5 year old HTC One M7... Been very interested in Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S as it has wide screen - what put me of with this one however was the bad camera that isnt even up to pair with their own budget phone Redmi Note 5. *SiGH* So that lead me back to square one: Im now thinking getting what i first had in mind from the beginning: The HTC U12+ ... Now i wonder how this ZX2 will compare to that, since the U12+ will arrive with Sony 3xx Sensor... ~ Interesting times! :)

The slow motion video is breathtaking.

Very well put thumbsup And thanks for a review that finally points out the over sharpened and over saturated images from P20 Pro. That's largely due to the fact that it fuses the black & white picture with the colour one in an attempt to improve dynamic range and reduce noise through replacement which in turn causes the contrast to turn out unrealistic (over sharpening effect) and the colours to have a blackish base which is unreal along with the details lost in shadows. Although they did try something clever here to deal with this issue through pixel binning of the 40mp snapper which has definitely shown signs of improvement still it is far from being as authentic as it would be otherwise. So dxo mark has overrated and I am not saying that P20 Pro isn't great in camera just that S9+ in my opinion wins in the final overall analysis of things. You can by the way cross check this by taking picture with the 40mp sensor of the P20 Pro and you'll know what I mean. Now I am very very intrigued by the upcoming XZ2 premium dual cam implementation which although is quite similar to the one found in Huawei, however, other than the sensor setup of 19mp + 12mp module itself, the main differences lay in the fusion ISP along with the boosted ISO performance of 51200, which is the key element that could result in better resolving the issues found in the Huawei's implementation as discussed above. I would also like you to do a tripod mounted (stabilized) photo comparison between the two in auto mode even in low light and I am sure you'd be in for a surprise. You would realise that Sony made a big mistake by not giving OIS and wider aperture to the camera otherwise it would've seriously put up a real challenge to every one. You could also check for this in gsmarena photo compare tool and you'll know what I mean. The game changer thing here is the ISP.

Huawei has an ISO of 102400, check out Richard's video of him taking a photo in auto mode in a pitch black room with an ISO of 51200, almost matching the same photo taken with a DSLR. Huawei is undoubtedly the king of phone cameras.

JZ VR thanks for the reply and yes that's pretty awesome how the phone is able to take such an amazing picture in complete darkness and that too handheld, however, my point was mostly related to the inborn issue Huawei dual sensor setup has in colour reproduction and the details in shadows that kick in even at lesser low light situations where other phones are also able to perform. Though yes on the face of it P20 Pro would have that awe factor. There is no doubt P20 Pro has a great camera, however, it has It's own issues as mentioned earlier. Let's see if they can successfully deal with that in the next models and it would be interesting how Sony deals with this issue in the XZ2 premium with the so called fusion ISP.

year after year, model after model. Sony Camera software has always been a failure. I've had the Xperia Z2, Z3, Z3+, Z5 and from playing with mates XZ and XZ1, it still holds true. They have the best hardware, but thats nothing if you cant get the software right. other companies, Samsung, Huawei etc have been able to execute their camera software perfectly....and the funny thing is Apple, Samsung etc are all using Sony Hardware. Seriously Sony, pull your Sh*t together!

Quan Tran the camera on Xz premium and Xz2 is dope though. They're currently creating decent camera phones with superb performance.

I wouldn't call the P20 pro "the king of phone cameras". All the comparisons i've seen it's barely on the same level as most of other flagship phones.

What doy ou think about s9+ footage ?

Worst smartphone cam i ever had.... i dont know why but my xz2 takes absolute shit photos and the super timelapse is absolutely useless when the video quality is so bad that its barely watchable settings wont make a difference at all. it is grainy as hell even in good light and the fotos as well grainy blurry amd sometimes distorted. i am endlessly dissapointed and wished i could just get another phone

In dinámica range, but you can customize the exposition with manual Mode, and in video i think xz2 have more quality in 1080 30 fps, i had the xa, and as you, it worked very bad, but o think te reason is the chipset, snapdragon 810 was a cpu Who it got very Hot with diary task as the mediatek p10 of the xa.

Huawei, sony, samsung, apple, bad news for you all your father is under construction the monster PIXEL3 that will definitely kick your ass later this year...

aFTER talking ''XZ2 won't have so dynamic range and detailisation as P20pro'' comes a shot that is better in detail and better in dynamic range on XZ2 3:52 LOL
