Matthew Moniz hey I got the p20 a week ago and it does tend to overprocess and oversharpened some images. When is does not it looks excellent. Also do you experience when watching videos on YT it auto bumps contrast or highlights to clip whites and details and it's makes faces to look fake due to noise reduction and to look smooth most likely due to beauty mode. Hopefully they tone the down the camera processing and fix the video playback

Nice comparo Matt, the XZ2 has a better overall package when you consider its video prowess. Ultra sensitivity mode is excellent, reveals details and keeps the image natural. I hate how some phones try to turn low light shots into day. Low light video is also amazing 12800 iso

Sony xperia has always better cameras that can give you real colors and more professional shots but unfortunately the people simply looking for a vibrant photo no Metter if they get a real color or a fake, that's why phones like samsun, iPhone, huawei etc... Have more fans then Sony xperia devices "I'm a big fan of Sony Xperia devices from a long time and I think Sony introduced the best combination between build quality, camera and software performance and I didn't like any phone more than the Xperia smartphone, I don't know I think the spirit of Sony that make you feel allway That you are holding a piece of art in your hand "

I was and still am a big fan of the arc design of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ark(Arc?). It would fit in a big design choice. although i would be a worried about structural strength, I'd love to see get it rigged by zach to see if sony could handle it :)

Sony xperia xz2 premium is better for me. But in General is pretty close.

Hunter Miller ... what's the DXO mark for the Sony camera? Also, the One Plus performs better than the Sony phone. Opens an app up a second faster, so the One Plus overall is a better phone because it opens apps up a second faster than the Sony phone (lol).

carver 9 Sony phones are faster than the iPhone and the p20 pro has a higher dxo mark then the Samsung and the Sony Xperia xz2 premium just beat it. Also dxo mark doesn't mean shit cause almost everyone has said that the pixel 2 is still the best overall camera on a phone

What surprised me is the daylight performance of the xz2 premium. Where most of all previous sony phones were lacking, dynamic range in high contrast situations, the xz2 premium even managed to outperform the p20 pro. Very good performance from sony. The fact that it does keep detail in the sky and clouds better than p20 pro is an amazing improvement even over the previous xz2. Also low light was very close in auto modes, but using the special modes (ultra sensitive vs night time), sony nailed it again with much more natural shots. Video recording...no contest here. It's in an entirely different league... Xz2 premium might just be the best camera of 2018, the only real opponent in my opinion is not the note 9, mate 20 pro or iphone xx or whatever apple will call their new overpriced hardware. It will be the pixel 3.

Matthew Moniz yeah, me too. But i really hope they will not do something foolish in the hardware department, like no OIS, or smaller sensor or pixel size, smaller aperture. They really need the best hardware available to fight sony... For software i have no worries... They will surely nail it

That night street scene with enhanced night modes... so much better on XZ2 Premium, no motion blur at all, and P20 Pro ghosting those cars and people. XZ2 Premium 💪👌

Try full HD video in darkness. That's the high light of the xz2 premium.

For most (hopefuly excluding Matthev) is because that would bring a clear win to Sony, and almost all major review sites been payed to never annonuce any Sony phone as best. Many review finished in the past with. While it's a good phone samsung is better, because it's a samsung. Or witch complete none sense ending as it's not a complete package. Or even when the whole video was spent listing the world firsts in the phone, they still finish it with it's not reale innovative. And so on.

Wow, the XZ2P is easily the winner here, very consistent results, on point low light photography, unmatched video recording… Sony said that they'll use dual cameras when they'll be able to improve picture quality and that's definitely the case here! I don't trust DxO, but we'll see what they'll say about this camera.

Sure! The P20 Pro did have some points because of its versatility and some qualities, but the AI situation didn't seem to bother them for example. There are some incosistences that are noticeable in their tests, but some reviewers keep using their results as a base to talk about a smartphone camera and even brands are using DxO to emphasize their camera performance...

FINALLY. A well organized, logical, review of both products.

Unbiased review. ☺️

Out of all other sets, from other tech youtubers. Your's looks so cozy and warm. Plus, the lightning makes every phone look better.

Sony doesn't pay MKBHD enough. Last phone he checked out was the Z5 Premium and that was only because of the phone being the first with a 4K screen (not HDR). After that, absolutely *nothing* from Sony.

Great and accurate camera review! You only forgot to mention the motion blur when the car was moving at 5:09 on the p20 pro. That's why i don't like the use of ois and i prefer instead the electronic 5-axis stabilization combined with higher iso sensitivity on the XZ2P.

Alvaro Mady yeah would be great to see some comparisons to other flagship camera video capturing like iPhone x, Samsung galaxy s9+ etc.

Just got the XZ2 premium phone and i love the feel of it coming from the samsung S8 which was very lightweight this device i can actually feel like i'm using but to me is not as heavy as some people say it and that 4K display is just mind boggling, the colors need a little adjusting from the settings to look more natural but i never knew what i was missing until i got this phone. Very satisfied with it.

How hard is it to stand still and take 2 photo with different phone from the same angle?

Sony did it. They are better and the advantage in video gives them the upper hand

Love watching this in my XZ2 Premium Chrome Silver, both flagship performed well, amazing result and diff pref and features, good job both 😘

Matthew Moniz Sony's XZ2 Premim pictures looks for natural which means better than Huawei's P20 Pro who intends to overexpose and over saturate the pictures. Also 2 cameras vs 3 cameras which the P20 Pro is failing to get 10/10 in the picture which simply it loses to Sony and most of the scenario cases

XZ2 looks very great in real. Go to a store and look at it you will see that in videos or in pictures it doesnt look as good as in real. I dont know why but i was happy when i got my XZ2. Best long lasting battery. My brothers S9 is always empty with that always on design. I need to charge it every second day my brothers S9 every day.

5:09 there is ghosting in the cars in the p20p photo That is why you must use a higher iso over long exposure or hdr. Even so people keep saying that long exposure is an advantage in any situation when in reality it is not.

Im still using sony xperia zx. so base on the comment there are a lot who still love Sony. Still very small market share. maybe just liking it on reviews but not going to buy any sony phones?

Kftiw Well tell them that but no one believes and always Sony's cameras are much better in the market and I say it without being a fan or biased. Sony is trying things out of the box and compete in the market while other are imitating and doing the same exact thing and yet you will see the pictures are not 10/10, always you will find a flaw. So why the motion blur when you have OIS?? Other thing, Sony shows natural colour tones while the P20 Pro over exposes and saturates

ois helps in low light by providing the ability to shoot with slower shutter speeds. While this is good for shooting stills, it is producing motion blur in moving subjects as you seen in the video. Sony played clever now and offered higher ISO sensitivity which allows the usage of faster shatter speeds and and this eliminates the motion blur.

sony phones are themost underrated.It has the best camera,best IP rating.

Shoulda taken a picture of me with both phones, woulda looked AWESOME on both phones! 😁

Sony is underrated I prefer Sony this time

Sony is never going to pay anything to DXOMark like others, so it'll keep getting low scores than it deserves

Good video but it is clear and visible the superiority of XZ2 Premium in all things ... If you know a minimum of image with the XZ2 Premium! There is no competition in this world today! After seeing over 100 tests on all things! I conclude that the XZ2 Premium as well as The XZ PREMIUM was the best in the world at all in 2017 and that surpasses many of today! The XZ2 Premium is the best Smartphone of 2018! It's a complete set that no other can offer!

finally a camera comparison that doesn't compare night shots of p20 pro with night mode against other phones with only auto....the use of night mode here was justifiable because sony had high sensitivity.

At 5:28 i think thats a really good sign of the differences between the cameras. Huaweii looks to be increasing light intake by increasing shutter speed. I notice all the blur of the girl and car, as opposed to the xperia where that did not happen. I am curious what all you can do with manual mode on the xz2 premium

the texture and details did not looked nice in the sony XZ2 however it exposed the photo better than the P20 po

Already ordered my XZ2P.. Here in Denmark it even comes bundled with a WH-1000XM2 ! (AND it's priced the same as the normal XZ2 ! ) Great stuff Matthew, subbed :)

What you do not know is that to appear in the DXMO ranking you must make an object of request and accompanied by a sum to pay. As you know Sony well, they are very proud to make this request and dies slowly

Many scene do not offer good comparison, especially those with LED screen. The light metering can be thrown off for each phone / camera, depends on screen brightness.

Unbiased, one of the few Reviewers who call it as it is. Because of three cameras and high megapixels I had assumed the Xperia XZ2 Premium will not even come close. Now I see that it actually is slightly better though P20 Pro, beats it hands down in some shoot outs.

5:12 Sony's Super sensitive mode managed to crank up the ISO and stopping the motion. Night mode (image stacking wizardry) makes blurry image on moving object.

Again noticed in another pic the slight red tinge in one pic , this time it was the huawei . Also noticed a bit of over sharpening by both in one of the early pics with the sony being a tad more noticeable . some where saying the huawei phone might get an improvement in the video via an update , you would have to say , if it has not come by now , it is unlikely to happen imo ..

Xz2 premuim is the best because you need a lowlight camera performance😎👌

Lmao P20 Pro has the largest sensor of any phone on the planet that's still in production, if it's extended by software then other phones will only fare worse.

i hope sony will include portrait mode on software update...even midrange phone can do that...they have large improvement their camera on sd845....only the down side is the hardware design...i believe majority dont care about agronomic fat phone...they want slim design like xz1 but less bezels on top and bottom...and please bring back headphone jack

I'm sick of oversaturated photos and videos. Sony nailed it this time. I absolutely love the way it captures colours and keeps them true to life. Good job, Sony ! Now you only need to step in the present time with the design, cause you clearly live in 2016, and put stock Android on your phones and you're good to go.

How comes you compared expose between those two image since both shoots using manual mode.? And why you nerf down p20 pro 40mp to 13mp and let sony using full potential 19mp sensor?? 😅😅

At its 40MP resolution, even the P20 Pro would not be at its full potential because of the Quad Bayer filter. The result is easily noticeable on the wing at the full resolution picture with a weird aliasing effect.

The only real opponent sony has now is sony haters and almost all other paid youtubers. The xz2 premium camera improve so much that it is probably the best phone camera now. See how amazing the low light photo. It is simple just amazing but sony dont pay youtubers. No one will review sony even if they review it they give biased review lol. See how many, thousands and thousands of articles and reviews on how good the P 20 pro camera when it come out. Samsung too, just the double aperture things make thousands of videos and articles. But now xz2 premium come with this amazing camera especially the tech breaking low light camera and beat them all, still all these people and so call tech lovers suddenly become so quiet. They used to love to bashed xperia so much in poor low light camera, always and never failed to bash xperia in that area everytime they review. But now xz2 premium low light is so good but they all suddenly become so quiet. fk all that bias and paid sony hater and reviewers. Dxo too.

Actually you should've set the P20 Pro to 10MP. The XZ2 Premium is VERY good indeed. I wish Sony would improve the dynamic range though...

@@MatthewMoniz Matthew I've seen a few other videos reviews that said to do that too actually. Like the Sony Xperia Z3 (yes, from 2014 lol), I recall that both of these phones STILL use the higher resolution camera to take the pic, then minimize it down to the lower setting, but the minimized pic STILL retains all the data from the original. With the P20 Pro, one video review explained that the pixels get "combined" or merged with some other pixels to make a much larger pixel, and the result is equal or very very close. I will prob order my P20 Pro tomorrow, so maybe I'll test it out. I would more strongly consider the XZ2 Premium but no T-Mobile VoLTE in the U.S. Of course the XZ3 (which I just bought & returned) has it, but that phone's camera sucks. lol

I wish you would do a 1080p video at night time on very low light conditions with dual camera recording to showcase the XZ2's ability to see in the darkness, and then compare to it to the competition :) Hope you do. That is where the XZ2P does impress the most! ☺

I don't think SONY will suggest DxOmark to test the XZ2P before the actual camera software came out. Sony said they will release it in fall. I assume the time will be around the phone start selling in EU & US. However, I doubt SONY will use the DxOmark to make a advertisment. Just a reminder for people who don't know. XZ2P HDR video is REAL HDR. You really need a HDR screen to see the drama. Not like every other phone which just pushing contrast and saturation.

What I have experienced with the xz2 premium is that it make tremendous pictures with HDR and without.

The XZ2 premium was updated with bokeh and monochrome modes. Can you do a video on these modes?

Hi If I buy sony Xperia smartphone from China what will be the problem like Google issue and other features include update and UI. Is sony Xperia have this problems at all?

Truth be told, I'm actually intending to buy one of the two phones. according to this video, P20Pro is still a winner by a nose in front of Sony at photography. Most reviewers admit this. regarding video recordings, it is a known flaw of P20Pro, but in FullHD it works just fine. After all, the technology is the same in both, only P20Pro has an extra camera that makes the difference. I was amazed by the captures in the minute 4:00. P20 is a loser there in front of Sony and it really makes me think very serious which one to go for, although my heart keeps beating more for the P20Pro. I would buy this phone for photography only. For video, I have to think about it. I'd like to know what options has the software of the Sony camera regarding manual settings though, as I didn't find anything about it yet. I'm used to hold a real camera in my hands and do all my settings manually especially for night photography. Maybe someone here can tell me if I can take RAW pictures on sony and if I have control on time exposure manually (if yes, what's the longest time available).

Can't wait to for the XZ3 and hopefully it's 48mp sensor will be a beast.

For me P20 pro is better for taking pictures

What annoyed me with the p20 pro is that when you turn front camera on it goes straight to portrait mode not the normal camera so has beauty mode on

It would be great to ses some lowlight videos of the Sony xperia xz 2 premium - it's an outstanding feature for the cam and shows off the potential of the sensors.... Hope Sony will improve that camera with an ois to really get the best out of it!
