I don't mind the bezels, way better than all that ugly cut outs and punch holes of the competition. That's one of the main reasons I stick to Sony

Good reviews dude, thanks for posting. I've been on an 5ii (I only upgrade every 2 or 3 years) and been really pleased with it. My favourite phone ever infact! I was looking at this for my next phone. The camera looks really good as does the new software with this phone. Have to admit the increased bezels do put me off. I love watching 21:9 ratio films with minimal border on top and bottom of the frame. I will defintely review that physically and see how I get on :)

I've seen the phone in person, the bezels didn't even catch my eye but rightly you should see it in person and decide yourself. I have the 5ii as well and Will be upgrading to the 5v or Pixel 8.

Your review is so much in details and helpful as I have had a hard time considering to purchase 1 as this seems to date the only Sony phone utilizing its big sensor 1.31 inch sensor for almost all scenarios. I would always prefer clear 4-5x digital zoom of a 1/1.3 inch sensor to 5x optical zoom of a tiny 1/3inch sensor. Could you kindly demo a zooming video comparison between the 2 devices ( 1M5 and 5M5 ) in good and low light conditions, which Im longing to find one on KZread , and not yet be able to so far. Yes, Video creator is a huge improvement. While Movie Creator is for full-auto creation. It makes one automatically, if you made enough shots for a certain period. I uploaded shorts it automatically generated.

Great device I would say. Together with 1V and Pro i, the best camera in a smartphone. The 2x zoom is certainly better than the others with mini sensors and large apertures The performance is top, the device no longer gets hot, the display is excellent, as is the sound. Facilities and options are also outstanding. So not much more is possible at the moment.

Did you put the Xperia 5 V in 120Hz mode? It seems like it is capped at 60Hz in the benchmarks. That would explain why it is so steady. It should be on par with the Xperia 1 V, and probably even better, because it has to handle less pixels. Just got mine, and found out that the default setting is at 60Hz.

Are the cameras good enough on Xperia 5 V, or I definitely choose the Xperia 1 V? I know the main difference is the lack of telephoto on 5 V, but is it well resolved that on it?

Can u try to start a movie in the Bavaria app on max volume in 5'1 or dtx because my phone makes scratchy noises at max Volume and won't sound clear

@19:20 pretty sure you just forgot to set the display to 120Hz, so the 5V maxed out at 60fps ... should perform way more similar to the 1V with unlocked framerate.

Just bought a 5 II, I still it's become a very good deal second hand You'd be hard pressed to find an app the 865 can't run, and it's got this rounded edges that make the bezels look smaller than this newest model. Software support is sorted : you got custom roms that have the sony camera apps built it with android 14

The thermal was very good now.... He plays on full graphic setting n its only 35 degree hot...that is great

for the camera blind test, I could tell which ones were the photos from the 1V except the photo @17:03 but I couldn't tell which ones were from the 5V 😂 maybe 1V is meant for me 😂😂

I kept waiting for the audio comparison on 3.5mm and wireless between the phones. The audio was the only reason I was considering a Sony, having been disappointed by the Samsung ultra for wired and wireless audio. Sony need to provide OS and security updates for much longer for the price (and Asus).

I hope that you will make a portrait video comparino between xperia 5 v vs Iphone 15 pro max.

Only problem I have is the is bigger side bezels than 5 iv.

Problem with Sony Xperia 5 series is the price, specially in model V. They want 850$ for the phone with no zoom camera, huge bezels, only 2 OS updates while they don't offer any trade in like Samsung. I like Xperia phones but they are not competitive in the current phone market.

The 5000mAh cannot account for the bigger bezels. The same battery size was used in the 5IV and that had smaller bezels with no issues. Sony just messed up.

actually cameras are better, and the only one downgrade is missing telephoto, but we'll I never used it on any of my phone's, zoom is just a trash, main lens is the best always, and in this phone they did really good job and I believe that portrait mode is better than on iPhone 15 pro max lol anyway top level of quality anyway, they did not improved night photos, still more on natural look so pictures are simply dark.

Comparing to 5 IV... a little better camera and better thermals. Screen quality, design, bezels, telephoto... the IV wins. And it's cheaper! I think the 5 V should cost about 800€ no more

1V looks blurry and poorly focused. 5 IV is very neutral tones, great if you plan to edit your photos later on somewhere else. 5 IV and 1V are way too saturated and contrasted for further editing (esp. in selfie - definition in darker colours/black is lost). 1V selfie mode zooms out the person a little too much, the background looks somehow bigger? #lollipop head. 5V is all around my favourite for someone that plans to do very minimal editing, wants good true-to-life photo quality to post on 4x5 instagram stories. 1V and 5 IV seem to outperform in low light indoor scenarios, but the difference is barely minimal. It would’ve been interesting to see iV in nature/outdoors conditions, as it has more grey and cool tones to it, so it would be interesting to see how that would play out day-time/night-time.

phone's usually throttle at 40C Xiaomi 13T doesn't throttle even at 50C lol and that's 2 degree higher than what iPhone 15 pro max reaches

Thicker bezel is fine. I'd say it's actually better I fact. Why? Bezel will help you from accidentally touching your screen when typing or playing video games. Especially if you use one hand. I find bezel less displays are pain in the ass for real world use. And I absolutely loathe the side screen trend that Samsung started quite a few years ago. Thank god (or consumerism) that trend is dead now.

You are asking for the Xperia 1V, this is the lower spec 5V. Most people already have a $5 cable.

Sony Xperia phones are great and unique, but they need more attention. My only complaints about the Xperia 5 II and Xperia 5 IV are that Sony should offer 4-5 years of software updates and get rid of the ugly top and bottom bezels. The front of the phone should be even from all angles with very thin bezels, like the Samsung S22 and S23 models.

Updates after 3 years, slow performance. Has not sense have a 5 years device, updated with clunky performance. Ugly bigger bezels, less unitentioned mistake touchs on screen. Consumer decide and Sony knows it
