Give the Vivo X100 Ultra more time. Most early reviewers are testing it on pre-release firmware which is far from the final and polished product. Vivo are also using 3 new image sensors for the first time on a flagship device (LYT900, LYT600 + Samsung HP9) - it needs lots of optimization, tweaks and improvements through firmware updates to catch-up. Their improved V3+ ISP and GLC glass coating are also nice upgrades. The X100 Pro's current state is extremely well optimized given the amount of big updates it's received consistently every month since it was released in December 2023 for CN, so it's still hard to beat by most competing phones. Hopefully with this reliable update track record, the Ultra gets the same treatment as it is their newest flagship.

If vivo isn't able to improve the 3.7x zoom camera, it will be very disappointing... on the other hand, the video recording at night with the main camera seems to be on another level, way better even than iphone right now with the gimbal like stabilization.

@@ViniciusFarias Their new 3.7x zoom seems way ahead of the 4.3x on the X100 Pro at night due to its massive sensor size in early reviews on CN social media. The improved stablization is also noticeable all-round during video recording so it should hopefully only get better in the next few months after several more firmware improvements.

It's funny, you really believe what you are saying ? VIVO, huge tech company, release a phone which is not ready ? what is this stupid myth ? We are 5 days ahead of release. Package are done, ready to ship, mass production is already on track. I have the X100 pro, it has maybe 2-3 updates since november, and it was already very good at the very begining. Stop this stupid myth for people to triger the sale. Updates will not be insane. Updates will change marginally some stuff. If they did not have a firmware to produce insane 50x zoom pictures 2 weeks ago, they will not have something crazy at the end of the month. This is pure logic.

I'll definitely will be getting it at least...Better auto mode, improved telephoto, even better speakers, brighter display, LTPO, better battery life, 1 more year of OS updates etc etc...Solid list of improvements, yes the displays PPI will be a slight downgrade, but it doesn't bother me since there's plenty of other improvements with the dispaly. Hopefully the major issues that the 1-line has had for some time with black cruch and green tint should be solved as well since its a completely new panel. Yes, the device its slightly wider, but its still a lightweight device with the textured back/sides. Compared to other flagships like the S24U it's still a very manageable form-factor, especially in regards to the weight, almost 40 grams lighter compared to the S24U.

The Vivo x100 Ultra is a fantastic camera. There are more and more comparison videos and it beats Xiaomi 14 U, Samsung S24, Oppo and other flagship zoom phones significantly, do check it out. The video OIS stabilisation is great and all lens shoots 4k120 vidoes (like Xperia 1 IV). It may be my next phone.

I agree with you. I'm not ready to pay EUR1300 for pretty much the same Xperia 1 V with just one upgraded camera lens and downgraded screen. THE PRICE IS WRONG fpr this phone. Too little upgrades.

Native 85 is a hit for me. I don't care about longer zooms, I need a portrait focal length

Exactly there's more to a display than screen resolution.. iPhones and many other phone manufacturers have proven this time and again

After having the original Xperia 5 to now having the 1V, I can say that the latter is practically perfect. I'm half-sad to see the 21:9 aspect disappearing in the new model, but I am really glad to have the separate specialized camera apps in the 1V.

It's unfortunate that I was hoping you'd try out the X100 ultra, so I could hear your thoughts on how it compares to the pro version.

I have seen it, upto 30x ultra is killing it. It's like something you haven't seen before but beyond that it's not that impressive maybe after optimizations we can see something different. But fYI beyond 30x none of the devices produce usable images. But 30x on ultra is actually usable.

Sorry to hear this. I understand your frustrations - they had a chance to go more pro and went the other way while being purely iterative with the cameras. I think the 1VI is more versatile now but it's a versatility they could almost entirely bring to the 1V (48mm + 48mps) and choose not to. I'm upgrading because it won't cost me anything and it'll bag me a new pair of headphones. Sorry we won't get to hear your thoughts beyond this.

I was going to upgrade from my experia 1 iv but I'm still on the fence,have heard Amazon was offering the 1mk6 with a 20% discount, £1086 with the headphones which suggests to me pre order sales are not going well? I would have snapped this offer up but, it is no longer on at this price but i think in the not too distant future this phone will have big discounts because as you have pointed out the 6 seems to be a downgrade from the 5.

Totally agree with you bro. Sony is going backwards, there have been many years in which all its fans are waiting for something really good and that simply does not come. It is always one step behind despite being a leader in sensors. As for the Vivo X100 Ultra, I think we will have to wait for its formal release and updates, knowing Vivo/Zeiss they will surely perfect the software these days. Greetings from Mexico.

I completely agree. I find the VI to be a large downgrade. Imo their displays used to have the best picture quality on the market, but that is no longer the case for this release. I was planning to upgrade from my 1 III to the VI this year, but this phone isn't worth upgrading towards, I have almost no interest in it. Not to mention they aren't releasing in the US anymore. They really divided their current consumers with this release similarly with the XZ2. I suspect their sales to take a steep dip on this one.

I want Sony to succeed but I will not be biased so I will agree with you but not entirely.I will start with the Xperia Pro C witch is said to be the technical marvel of Sony expected to have a ridiculous price with the help of the global inflation.The Xperia 1 VI is comparable with S24 Plus in the market but it is expensive mostly from a marketing POV.The improved camera as a whole has positives and negatives but from what I have seen it is much better on the improved second sensors and we will have to wait and see if the night software is really improved.From the audio perspective Sony doesn't have competition in this very important area since not only is packed with all the software goodies but the IMPROVED jack that is a super addition.Battery life is excellent from what I see and the improved user interface is a welcome addition and the longer support as well.My only important concerne with Sony this year is the 1080+ display with low pixel density and the resale or promt and rapid service support for the price you need to pay.A 2K screen would've made Sony the best Android device on the market.I believe that they cut costs because of the poor possible sales do to high costs on materials, unpredictable economy and global inflation and it might be a good move for Sony in the end.As soon as this global crisis ends the better for the world.

Hi, I'm torn as to which best camera phone I should get? Going by your rankings, oppo x7 ultra seems best but I heard the battery life just isn't as good as the Samsung, or Vivo, or honor. I'm also thinking about the Vivo x100 ultra but initial reviews show that it's camera hasn't matched the hype (but could this be down it to still be on beta software and not officially released)? Actually I would rather take the X100 Pro and safe the rest of the money for some other things like variable nd a case or something like this. Oppo Find X7 Ultra indeed I have also the feeling of worse battery life than the X100 Pro. But I have to test this more thoroughly. Last but not least the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra that I am testing right now can be also very very convincing. Variable aperture, okish pro mode for video and photos. Just the price is super high right now and the performance basically only better in the selfie department in comparison with the X100 Pro (at least my first impressions right now - I need to do a detailed comparison still)

​@@lltechview I think that you need to check the samples of 12 vs 50 vs 200 MP that are done in daylight, the difference is big on each step, 12 vs 50 and 50 vs 200 i was surprised. Also keep in mind many people are testing the regular artificial mode not humanistic photo or texture mode that are much more natural and organic looking

Haha man this is the most melancholy but real video I've seen from you but you might've talked some sense into me. I was just excited about the possibility of having such stellar battery life and shooting photos and video all day that I was ready to give Sony a pass for not improving where they needed to and ultimately that's image quality vs the competition. I think the Xiaomi 14 Ultra hits all the marks for me in terms of image quality plus camera features fir photo and video.

30 fps afaik is jpg. As for the Pro. I think the reliable leaker sources indicate no other Xperia device to arrive this year.

Great video. Xperia 1 VI is trashed. I am very disappointed like you. I own the Xperia 1 II, III and IV and had high hopes that Sony will upgrade the zoom sensor for the VI. I cannot belief that they are still using the tiny tiny tiny 1/3.5” sensor from 5 years ago. While Sony is making the latest LYT800 and 900 1/2” and 1/2.5" sensors for other phone makers. The 1080p screen is a 2 step downgrade and totally embarrasing. Truth is Sony is losing $$$ for mobile and they are buying dirt cheap excess 1080p screens stock from year 2020 instead of buying the expensive 4k screen from vendors. Sony is exiting the US market, all signs points to Xperia VI will be the last one. Fyi. I follow your videos, great work with the Xperia comparison videos.

Yes the quality of zoom lens seem not change, blurry and bad contrast for raw shooter

I don't think the disappointment for the Vivo is warranted though because we're talking about processing wizards who actually think about their smartphone cameras well after release. The hardware is more than capable. In a month or two they will wipe everyone away when it comes to zoom.

I had pre-ordered the VI on impulse after Sony’s announcement. They conveniently failed to mention they were downgrading the screen to 1080p, but are still charging customers £1300 for it.?!! I had to cancel my pre-order, I just cannot justify the price even with the included XM5’s.

The vivo X100 Ultra 100x video zoom has more detail compared to the vivo X100 Pro, which appears more pixelated at 100x video zoom. In photography zoom, there is no difference; it's the same as the X100 Pro. However, the Ultra has a major issue with focusing at zoom, which results in a blurry face. 🫠

same with the magic 6 pro rsr n magic 6 pro...same camera just different name and price...🤷

I buying 1 VI from 1 V. For me is display more important than camera 📸 and battery 🔋 life, so what's wrong with new Xperia?

I've suspected for awhile that Sony's new sensor might not be as good as its 989. Nothing has dissuaded me from that opinion yet. I'm glad I imported the vivo x100pro instead of holding out for the ultra even if the ultra tops it with updates it cant beat the price of the pro.

Good review! Please make Sony aware!! Its overall strategy (mostly software and price) is indolent with/for any user ever, not only its die hard fans... Plus any other trademark allows in any (low or top class) camera drivers unlocked for Gcam to step up the game. Sony stubbornly is no... Like.no.other... I'm really sad...

wait for Huawei's flagship comes near the end of the year, the Pura Mate 70. Normally the Mate version is a step up from the standard range and Ultra.

I think that, as always, there is a huge amount of hype and then you hit rock bottom. 200MP hasn't looked extremely good on any smartphone yet, everything that goes over 20x zoom is an oil painting on smartphones anyway and is then massively "improved" with AI, but is that still the actual photo if the AI ultimately decides on the end product and not the photographer?

Yeh! You've right. No Smartphone is really showing super tricks or something really knew. I expected to buy the OPPO Find X7 Pro but no-one talk about it anymore, like is has disappeared for one reason that I do not know... I think I will buy the Honor Magic 6 Pro or the Honor last fordable or the Vivo fordable.

I could not agree more with you about the sony. Why mess up amazing aspect ratio to appeal to consumers where all phones look like a clone of each other, Samsung became Apple and no one was as unique as Sony. This happens when you employ new executive to improve sales and floop. Especially by messing up the app ! I believe a lot more in X100 Ultra at this point.

It can't do 30fps read out speeds , this is one reason why Sony won't go 1 inch fully but will crop the sensor area to give faster read speeds it prides itself on. Personally I'd take all three lenes with IMX888 Stacked sensor as it's noise reduction is impressive at high iso

@@jparker8505 But 1-inch sensor is a whole another level when shoot professionally (pro settings). Real bokeh, more highlights captured, are what I amazed with the sensor. Especially on Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Leica tuned the camera so well imo. Others 1" sensor phones like Oppo X7 Ultra, Huawei Pura 70 Ultra or Honor X100 Ultra can't give me the dlsr-look just like 14 Ultra did.

Das Nachreichen von wichtigen Funktionen nach Release macht Apple auch ganz gerne mal so. Keiner regt sich auf. Aber ich finde das auch doof. Grössere , frischere Sensoren bedeuten aber auch einen grösseren Kamerabuckel. Ich bin ja froh, dass Sony dieses schöne Design hat. Diese dicken Bricks wie Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo…möchte ich nicht haben. Schon gar nicht in meiner Hosentasche. Ein anderer Ansatz wie bei Sony bedeutet auch Kompromisse. Dafür hat man 48 mm nativ vom besten Sensor und 85 mm optisch für Portraits. Das ist top! Weil Sony den anderen Ansatz hat kauft man sich die ja auch. Ohne Sony würde ich wohl leider bei Apple landen. Die neue Cam UI: ja es fehlen Funktionen ( ich habe die auf dem Ver laufen). Kein Nightmode bei derSelfie einstellbar usw…das stört. Mich stört viel mehr, dass das 1 V nicht die nativen 48 Mpx 2x Zoom des 5V bekommt. Ich bleibe dennoch beim 1 V.

Sony hätte ja mit seiner Dual Layer Stacked Sensor Technologie nicht super große Sensoren einbauen müssen für Ultraweitwinkel und Tele. Einfach nur das was die Gerüchte zuerst gesagt haben. 50 MP bzw. 48 MP nach crop LYT600 für Ultraweitwinkel (1/1.2") und LYT500 für Tele (1/2.93") mit den gleichen Blendenstufen hätten den Kamerabuckel nicht wesentlich größer gemacht als was er jetzt ist. Im Vergleich zum 1 V ist der ja sowieso angestiegen. Klar dann hätte man nicht den Monsterzoom von 85-170mm optisch machen können, aber 85-125 oder 150mm wäre drinnen gewesen. Bei 48 MP hätte man dann die 185 auch per cropping wie beim Hauptsensor erreichen können. Dann fehlt mir für den 24mm sensor und 2x noch ein 1.5x für 35mm equivalent. Das ist gerade für Porträts sicherlich interessanter und wenn Sony dort genauso optimieren würde wie beim 2x wäre das noch ne Ecke besserer. Vivo und Oppo machen das z.B. und liefern hervorragende Ergebnisse damit.

Das kommt dann in Zügen wohl beim 1 Vll. Ich lasse das 1 Vl auch erstmal aus. Mal schauen ob Sony überhaupt die neue Cam UI auf das 1 V bringt oder Sony mit neuen Features eh nicht spendabel auch das 1 V schon links liegen lässt. Wenn Verbesserungen dann nur via next Android OS ? Überzeugt hat mich die neue Cam UI noch nicht . Ist mir auch farblich zu sehr Schwarz/Weiss. Keine farbliche Markierung einer gewählten Funktion mehr. Vielleicht habe ich mich auch zu sehr an die Photo Pro und VideoPro gewöhnt

For sure. But Sony is developing in a loop. Remember with the Xperia 1 they had one unified app. Instead of improving it they decided to develop a new Pro app. Everyone got excited because we got new features. Then they developed a Cinema app. More people got excited and discovered it. Then with the Pro i a new video pro app. Now all those apps are gone and the new unified app can only do a quarter of those other apps. Photo Pro is most complete. But video pro and cinema pro are completely missing and you need to hope that Sonys promise of a future update will bring its functionality back. Remember when Sony promised to bring the 48mm 2x tech to the 1 V from the 5 V which never happened. I have a little doubts that Sony will deliver something that will truly be a valid replacement for Video Pro and Cinema Pro.

@@s89kw Yeah we will see. Sonys track record in giving us feature improvements with upgrades (not updates as it takes the Android 15 Upgrade for it) is a bit poor. They have marginaly new features usually. Maybe it will change but we have to see. If Sony is concentrating on the Xperia 1 lineup and ditching the Xperia 5 series maybe they have the ressources to deliver.

I think the only reason they are still making phones is that their CEO and executives don't have to be seen in public using a samsung or iphone lol

I have the 1 iii and will not be upgrading to the vi sadly. Sony are losing it and exiting the US market looks like a question mark on its future continuity in the mobile market.

They left the middle east after mid-2018. Hence I'm still stuck on that model (ZX?) since then. I'd rather pick no-name brand than people's ultra-cringy Samsung.

Bring back Photo Pro, Video Pro and Cinema Pro. These are the world's best mobile photography and video apps. Leave the new simplified standard camera app with a mediocre interface for new users, but let us stay with the apps like in professional cameras. 😢

Or they could leave them as long as they did not implement every feature of the video pro and cinema pro app installed in parallel with limited support. I mean no one would bat an eye if it would be at least reinstallable via the play store.

@@Samerawi According to all serious leakers there won't be another Sony Xperia device this year. So I don't think there will be a Pro-i Mark 2 this year.

Sony's problem is their culture. They will be dead in the ground and still think their products are the best. They have also convinced themselves that their name will sell products. And all thiss while they continue to pull out of various markets.

My only rant is vivos release policy. Give us the X100 Ultra in EU.

Finally someone else who sees the Xperia 1 VI for what it is - a downgrade

The reason Sony isn't giving us all the goodies is because they are making the upcoming Xperia pro c the real flag ship.....? Maybe

I'm always been disappointed in sony yet I've bought sony for the last ten years but it's coming to an end bye bye Sony.

I have no idea why is Sony still making smartphones. They seem to be completely directionless. Their software update policy is archaic with 2 years of OS updates. They have the best camera sensors, yet their smartphones don't use them. Not only should they be using LYT-900, but they should be using something even better, some prototype, exclusive sensors just for themselves. Yet it's their competition who uses their best sensors. It seems like they have the engineering potential to make great smartphones, but they don't have a leadership, or maybe they are afraid of cannibalising their other products, in which case their competition will gladly do it. This company makes some of the best cameras in the world, they should be leading smartphone cameras, not falling behind Apple, Samsung, Pixel, and all the Chinese camera flagships. Their mindset is stuck in the 90s. I have no idea who buys a Sony phone other than their most hardcore fans.

With regard to the omitted camera features on the Xperia 1VI, perhaps Sony is saving them for the rumoured successor to the Xperia Pro-i. Personally, I think that the Xperia 1 VI at £1299 is overpriced.

Yeah Sony should price it or discount it for 999€ or £850 then without the XM5 headphones. That would be more competitive. You can get close to it with selling the XM5 headphones however but still a bit of a nuisance if you bought the 1 V or 1 IV before and already have XM3 and XM4s lying around :P

I was on the edge to sell my x100 pro a week ago. I had several offers, was really ready to accept with the ULTRA coming, so excited. Then, the conference. Rumors saying it was 200X zoom, incredible pictures, during conference, few shots with max zoom making me think it was again marketing moove to boost sales. Then reviews from Weibo guys, directly from VIVO shops showing a really nice looking phone with poor pictures performance (let's face the true, the pictures are not whaou at all)... I am like you, disapointed. Even with firmware updates, it will stay marginaly maybe better with the X100 pro...

Yeah I was expecting also a little more from Ultra but maybe we need to wait for more detailed reviews and software optimizations, too bad that X100 Pro from China doesn't have B20 frequency ( I don't want global version ), that's why I'm still thinking about Ultra. For now some photos have wrong focus, zoom is good but it's similar what we have seen in oppo find 7 ultra, x100p etc. I thought that it will be some kind of revolution but for now it's only small step evolution.

Sony missed a chance to shine, again. I believe they don't know what they are doing cuz you can't have a (more) mainstream phone and camera app and on the other hand they keep selling to less and less countries.. There is a new pro-c coming supposedly, a 6 inch phone, our hopes are with this phone. Oh and ok, you gave people a FHD screen, that's fine by me, at least lower the price

He simply is a person who wants more megapixel, more zoom, more sharpness, more is everything here, without a single understanding of what he needs those things for. None of my xperia had swollen battery. But this can happen to any phone

Honestly, Xperia 1 V was a disaster, I hated almost everything about that phone. Only the photos on the main camera were very good and naturally looking during daylight. Everything else about that phone sucked big time. I do not believe that 1 VI can be any worse.

Well, I had vivo x100 pro and wasn't happy either. At this point I really don't know what camera phone to buy.

I think main Sony's problem is not with hardware, but with camera software and it's processing. Most images are oversharped and with a bad hdr. New hardware will not resolve the problems. Remember how Google install oldest imx363 from pixel 2 to pixel 6a? And these smartphones make a great photos. So it's not about hardware. By the way, make a comparison between pixel 8 pro and find x7 ultra, please🥹

I think its a bit of both. Sonys processing is weak for sure. They don't have much AI they use for it which is an issue. But if you don't want to use that you need to have good hardware. And very old small sensors don't help if you cannot do good software like Google did.
