The PSX is a Sony digital video recorder with a fully integrated PlayStation 2 home video game console. Also sidebar, ps1 was commonly called psx up until around the ps3 launch. The actual psx came out in the mean time but missed the demographic playstation has. Also missed sonys demographic as alot of serious audiophiles..etc thought it would be childish.

Yes the PS5 is not aesthetically pleasing. However a product from 2003 looks better. The PS5 looks a-lot better though thanks to the PS5 Slim model.

Edited, since some people lack reading comprehension. And I'm still being corrected nearly two years later by people who lack it. Both are wrong. Rare? Yes, but not rarest. This is not the Nintendo prototype. It was a Japanese only model, the PSX, with an early attempt at being a built-in home theatre similar to what Microsoft did with the Xbox One with the HDMI input. Look up the Net Yaroze. One of the more rare Playstation systems that are attainable. And yes, the Nintendo Playstation prototype, being one of a kind, is the most rare.

Actually it's not. The rarest PlayStation ever to exist is the one that Nintendo and Sony worked on before Nintendo told Sony to screw off because they decided to make the 3DO with Philips thus there's only one in existence

I saw a ton of these on a Japanese surplus store here in the Philippines back in 2010. I had no idea what they were. Now they are slowly becoming a collector's item. I couldve been rich of I bought a few of them! Smh

man these are so rare, most have a bricked hard drive unfortunately. Crazy enough its the first instance of the XMB

PSX is basically a premium PS2. It was meant to sold outside of japan but the sales weren't good so it got discontinued. It's features a 250gb built in harddrive. You can store your ps2 games on it so you don't need to put in the disc every time you play.

A miracle that this hard drive is still working. For some reason, the PSX doesn't take regular hard drives, so if that hard drive fails, then it's essentially permanently bricked.

be careful as with age the hard disks have been failing and if the HDD dies the console will brick

The build quality of that console is immaculate. If they were to release something like that today, the price would be over 1k. Does anyone know the retail value when it was on the market? Edit: OK, I did some digging for anyone interested. The Playstation X had various retail prices depending on the model you chose. The least expensive being 45,000 yen and the most expensive being 95,000. 95,000 yen calculates to 641.13 USD if it were to be sold in America. That doesn't factor in shipping and logistic costs that would undoubtedly raise that price tag a little. Regardless, 641.13, if you adjust for inflation to today's economy, would be worth 1,051.43 USD in today's market. Isn't useless information fun?

@timothynelissen948 same haha I was gonna pick one up at one point before learning that It's basically the HDD that's the issue. The HDD's are not only encrypted but hard coded to the console and the software used is unstable So if the HDD fails or has any software issues the console is effectively bricked The HDD can't be replaced because nobody has been able to hack the encryption and alter and or transfer the data to a new HDD and since they're console bound they can't be swapped with a good HDD from another PSX Another issue is the HDD contains the system firmware that allows the system to even function

For those who doesn't know what's a PSX. It's a PS2 console that's also a DVR. It was only released in Japan. It have XMB quite similar to the PS3 and PSP consoles before those exist

I think that games at the end of the 2D era (Super Nintendo, Genesis) is where i think is mostly old. And i have to agree that something like say for example a PlayStation 3 is defined as vintage nowadays is truly weird. I guess that's the charm of things. People in the future find something nowadays "vintage". I have no idea why i wrote something this long but to put it simply; i agree with your opinion.

Psx is technically a ps1 dev kit but was upgraded for the ps2 depending on the model on the back it could be just the ps1 version or ps2 version

Podias conectarla ala TV y Grabar programacion en vivo. Solo estuvo Disponible en Japon y es Ahora de collection una raresa. @@andresalonso637 wasn't too bad it was just the console by itself so it was 69.89 plus tax and then I had to get a sperate power cable with the power supply and an HDMI adapter for it too

PS1 start up is still my all-time favourite

Great. Now never turn it on again until you get FMCB and an external hard drive. The PSX has a tendency to overheat and usually damage the internal hard drive and the optical drive. Also, there's two lasers on the optical drive, and the DVD laser has a tendency to burn out rather quickly.

These things somehow look futuristic and old as shit at the same time.

Yes, this is real. I looked it up on Google and it says it was only for Japanese market. That’s why we never saw it.

Ahhh, brings me back the old memories of gaming as a child.

i reccomend using a specific version of free MC boot designed for the PSX that takes some wear off the HDD, as not only is the file system encrypted, it's also locked to a per console key. so if the hdd dies, you pretty much can say goodbye to any chance of that working again (although someone has been making some quite nice progress on cracking the encryption)
