Wow, the song is amazing. I love the way it's produced, crystal clear sound with deep bass. Nowadays all the music is ruined by loudness war, it's a real shame.

My grandfather used to run a ceramic factory. The success rate to make precision casing such as a C-0 makes it expensive. Everything needs to be hand made and cooked in the oven. The amount of wasted materials and can’t be recycled is making these types of things really expensive

Very good song recorded on a fabulous tape. The hiss is very minimal. At £5 each, those Sony tapes would have been minidisc killers ! Thanks Tony, for reminding us of the fond memories of recording mixtapes in the 90’s. Greetings from France.

I have a pair of Super Metal Masters which I bought when cassette was dying. They were still pretty expensive, but not obscenely so as they are now - and I totally HAD to have such a beautiful looking thing, even when I didn't have (and still don't have...) a *good* deck! Very nice song, I wish you can find the singer and release it soon.

I wonder, did we really need metal tapes. I bought maybe a handful. I always thought what I was recording was not that important, and type IV tapes were too expensive. Nothing a sub $10 type II couldn't manage.

They were really expensive back in the day. I used get mine from the staff shop in Sony. Really great though i used mine on the Aiwa ADF-990 machine which absolutely loved these tapes and could properly saturate them without distortion.

  • @Gez492

Working in Sony manufacturing as an engineer. Nobody wanted the Metal Master or Super Metal Master cassettes in the Staff shop, so I used to get a great deal on boxes of them At one point I had around 40 of them! Over time, I gave them away lent them to friends etc etc. I had two decks one Sony TC-K909ES and an AIWA ADF990 both calibrated these really well but Aiwa had the edge. My god I could push these so far. I could with my great TDK MRXG and MA's and some of my Maxell's too but I do think in my machines these had the edge. These still sound really, really good today considering they were often live DJ mixed tapes straight off Technics SL12MK2 with Concorde Pro cartridges via the tape out of a Pioneer mixer whether they were actually sonically better than less exotic MA's is probably not possible to say such was the performance of great metal tapes but I loved the Super Metal Masters as they also had a feel good factor when you used them, much in the way an MAXG did I guess

I remember finding these Metal Master tapes in my favorite Hifi store .. at this time I had a pretty nice Hifi system, with a pretty good cassette deck, so I bought many Sony Metal XR tapes, the best tapes I ever used .. they were not cheap, but the price was fair to me, especially regarding the sound quality I was able to achieve with them .. they sounded exactly like the CD source .. so back then, and still today, I never understood why someone would spend that money on a Sony Metal Master blank tape .. they were more expensive than any CD !

That’s a very neat song. Certainly unique in it’s style. Across between Annie Lennox and Enya and I mean that in the most positive way. Hope I’m not starting ww3. I’m not a musician, just a music lover. How soon before it’s released. It will definitely play in the techno bars. I’m diverging off the subject. This tape is very quiet as far as noise. I heard none. The recording was excellent. As far as me going to lay down any more money on metal tapes, no. I feel better off chasing chrome ones. I am lucky to have a sizable collection already of metal blanks already. I have to focus my efforts on metal. Find her and get this on the shelf Tony. It speaks to electro fans!

I love audio compact cassette tapes and tape decks! That's why I never stopped recording on them and till this day, I still record all of my favorite music unto compact cassette tapes. While everyone were switching to CD's and later to Mp3's, I still stuck around with my favorite format, the compact cassette. They last a very long time, the sound quality is amazing, managed to record my tapes louder and cleaner than CD's. I miss those days when we used to exchange or borrow cassettes from friends in Highschool. Each time you borrow a tape from someone, it would have it's unique smell to it and characteristics. Someone would let me borrow a blue Sony CD-IT tape, someone would give me a tape with red hubs, others would let me borrow a colorful Memorex DBX tape and so on. When I borrow a tape from girls, they would usually smell like perfume or some attractive lotion smell, while guys would tag allover their cassettes or put all kinds of stickers & decorate them. Each tape would have it's unique personality. Good times. I'm gonna have to run to the store and buy some more blanks right now.

If I remember right, they also came with this this plastic sheet with letters and numbers on them and you would stencil your titles onto the cassette by pushing the letters/numbers on by pressing down on the other side. Ohhh, I didn't go far enough into the video: he opened it. I remembered correctly. I found like 10 of these last year in a storage room with all my super old electronics. Very nice 👌 good job guys! Back in 97-98 I bought the Sony Signiture at a Tower Records when they were still around. It was 110 or 120 minute tape, black thin tape color. I didn't know jack about it and recorded random stuff on it with a regular stereo. The sound was so very thin and the frequency was super high lol...I wondered where all the bass went. Anyway it DOES actually get stuck in car stereo, especially a VCR type tape deck from my mom's 1994 Ford Thunderbird XL. I also remember loving the feel of the metal case, it was cool; almost cold to the touch. Thank you for your videos. No. It seems that TV talent shows have put into the mind of people who can sing "Hey, if you can sing, instant fame and fortune is yours" You work for months on stuff, if they don't see an instant return, then they just disappear. They're too embarrassed to let you know they're going, they just go...so I'll use them for non profit purposes as I put more effort into the tracks than they did 😒

Back in the 1990s I was an assistant manager at a Camelot music store. I don't know if they had any Camelot music stores in the UK or Europe. They are now called FYE here in the US. I was fortunate enough to find one 90 minutes Sony Metal Master cassette tape in a Bargain Bin! At the time when Maxell was selling 5 pack of UDXL II for $10.99 USD, this precious Sony Metal Master, in a Bargain Bin mind you cost the same! I never seen one like it so I had to get it and let me tell you this, it is an incredible tape! On side one I recorded "Mark O'conner-Meanings Of" ( which is an absolute incredible album if you have not heard it) and on the side two I recorded a collection of my favorite "Alison Krauss" tunes and it sounded perfect then and it still sounds perfect now! I have seen these Sony Metal Master cassettes going for as high as $100 USD used on eBay very recently! That beats some TDK MA sealed cassettes that were listed at the same time! Thanks Tony for making this video!.... I'm still waiting for you to make a video on the 3M Blackwatch 2020 or the 3M Blackwatch 4040. Glad you like the videos. Yeah, my boss had a few in the day, but I never was tempted. 10x UDII or one SMM? Not really a choice for me then. The Scotch Blackwatch and Loran are North American only, so hard for me to get. The blue Bang & Olufsen cassettes are just rebranded BASF Chrome Maxima II, 1989 version, and I looked at those early on as they're one of my favourites.

@@CassetteComeback Thank you for replying to my comment. I understand the Dilemma between 10x UDII vs. 1 SMM for sure. I only ever found one physical SMM and it was in the cheap Bargain Bin so I thought I'd get it because I'm never going to get the chance to get another one. Mind you, the price of the SMM was slashed at least in half because it was in a cheap Bargain Bin so it would sell faster. I'm sure most people didn't understand what that cassette was all about. I did. If memory serves, I believe I paid roughly $6.99 USD and that was in the 1990s somewhere along the line. Anyway, thanks for your reply! I have just one of the Sony Metal Master cassette tapes. Only one! The reason why I have only one is because even back in the day when they were slightly available in the USA, meaning just too expensive for the stores to put them on the shelves cuz they wouldn't move because people didn't understand what they really were, they were so expensive. But I do agree 100% and I always have said that this is the best tape that I have ever used! I still have the original music I recorded on and either the late 80s or very early 90s. I actually bought this tape brand new in a Bargain Bin for $6.99 USD in the time we're paying that much for a cassette tape was just out of the question here in the USA. But, most definitely the best cassette tape ever! The second best tape without any doubt that I have ever used I only have 2 of is the 3M black watch 20/20 and 40/40. Once again I only have two of those because they were terribly expensive in the late 80s per cassette tape. $8.99 USD each! Ouch! But, I suppose perhaps Denon made those 3 M's and if so it was the best Denon tape that was ever made!

I have maybe a dozen of these, and find them not at all like your garden variety metal tapes. First, they are not easy to bias, and take my ZX-7 almost to the limit. Once dialed in, on my system, they sound very lush and base to lower-mids forward. That's not to say they can't capture the highs - they can. I push them pretty hard without any noise reduction, and they sound pretty fantastic to me.

As unlikely as this might sound, I watched this video because at the weekend I found one of these among a bunch of D-90s in a SKIP! I'm already a bit of a tape-head anyway, so whenever I see any old collections being chucked out I'll have a look, but this is the first time I shouted "OH MY GOD!" in the middle of the street while rifling through a skip :D Now I just need to decide what to use it for...never seen the point in owning cassettes and not using them.

7:12 This makes sense: Can you picture what an aberration would it be to put a paper sticker on one of these? Even my 15-year old self was not particularly fond of using those on his humble cassettes. Everything was indexed in the inlay, why would I want to stick a thing that would yellow and get dirt on it just to repeat information? I can hear you say: What if you, for any reason, had several same-model cassettes out of their cases lying around at some point? Well, what about just playing a second of it, and I know which one it is, problem solved.
