Funny you brought that up. It just occurred to me that if this deal goes through, Sony will have the film rights to Sonic the Hedgehog and Dungeons and Dragons in addition to the PlayStation films it already has like Uncharted and Gran Turismo.

If Sony buys Paramount they can definitely start a streaming service to compete with HBO and Disney. I think that may be their strategy

As a huge movie fan, I was just thinking about all those Sony Pictures (once their pay one deal with Netflix ends) and Paramount films being on the same service. That would be great. But it all depends on how things shake out. But apparently Paramount Plus is on its way to profitability.

7:09 Sony will own Paramount. You can’t say no to an offer that high. As the former CEO of Palm said, you can’t really say no to the highest bidder when you’re a public company. I know you CAN but they have to consider something that big and it would give everyone a nice payday.

Correct. Besides, Paramount stock B class shareholders are considering lawsuit if Paramount Global board of directors and controlling shareholder Redstone chose Skydance without considering the Apollo-Sony deal. I understand their concerns with the Skydance, since that deal will benefit Redstone more and B class will only get a few cents out of a dollar out of the deal.

I think there will be a day where these companies all regret combining. Like a lot of historic empires falling once you conquer everything it’s too big to manage and you crumble.

I can see the potential in this but I just hope Sony treats the franchises Paramount has under their belt well or better just as they do with Spider-Man and not like their recent trash villain movies.

Let's say Sony ends up buying paramount but they should let all the writers, directors or producers be chosen by paramount and CGI or editing should go to Sony because paramount are doing a good job on their actors and writers

Look, it's either going to be Sony or Skydance. Both have positives and negatives. That said, I don't think either option would really adversely affect Paramount Pictures. It would be the other parts of Paramount that are affected.

As far as what will stay and go, it'll probably be other parts of the company that are affected the most. Even Jeff Fowler and Toby Ascher (who are two of the showrunners for the Sonic movies) didn't seem worried about it, and there is no way they aren't aware of it.

Slightly OT, but I thought the then-WarnerMedia and the then-ViacomCBS would have been a good match. There’s a case to be made now, but debt problems aside, I just don’t want Zaslav taking over more things. Comcast can buy it and put the WBD name out of its misery.

That would be major loss and tragedy for America if Sony owned Paramount, Warner Bros, Universal and Disney, because Sony is a Japanese company. All the dollars would go easily to Japan. America would go bankrupt, and Japan would be there to buy America. Sony is Japan's hand. Always remember, no allies forever, no enemies forever, only interests.

The dominance of tech giants is increasing rapidly. There have been rumors about Disney being acquired, or at least Apple owning a significant portion of its stocks. Additionally, there have been talks about Comcast, a cable company, acquiring Warner Bros. However, the unexpected news of Sony acquiring Paramount caught everyone by surprise. Rumor is Sherri is now having cold feet b/c both (and all no matter how many) offers will split company up. She has followed her father's last wishes which was to keep company together, and she has, to the tune of 75-80% loss of her fortune.

I hope whoever buy’s Paramount gets rid of MTV it just hasn’t been great since they got rid of music videos and switched to reality shows.

MTV Studio makes all the Taylor Sheridan shows for Paramount. Practically every single one of them is certified gold for Paramount. They won't get rid of. Plus it's a legacy brand. Just like Nickelodeon, it would be absurd to get rid of it.

But if I owned or bought Paramount, I would never *sell* them. SpongeBob, South Park, Yellowstone, Beavis and ButtHead? It’s the brand/IP/studios that are important, not the network itself.

I don't think this is a good idea for Sony. Out of all the companies/studios, Sony is the only one not losing money on streaming because they don't have a streaming service. They license all of their IP to the various streaming services in order to not have one & thusly not lose a profit. If they bought Paramount, that would mean that they would take on the losses from both Paramount+ & Showtime.

The current Skydance deal does not work. It benefits Sherri Redstone but leaving every other shareholder worse off, they have already said if they do not consider the Apollo-Sony deal, they will sue them for the lack of fiduciary duty.

I actually hope Sony doesn't buy Paramount and Paramount should refuse. Sony could ruin them. And if it goes through I hope they leave Sonic alone. Don't want nothing to happen to Sonic. Sony should just invest in their gaming division instead.

Sony should buy paramount global because they can make more Star Trek movies, more Nickelodeon movies, teenage mutant ninja turtles movies and etc.

Sony are desperate to get back at Microsoft for buying Activision Blizzard they Sony themselves alongside Apollo wants to buy Paramount Global for $26 billion.

How come Sony has that amount of money after releasing all the bad movies? will they ever learn…

The FTC isn't touching this because of the dire straits that Paramount is in financially, being nearly bankrupt. Better to have some layoffs than to have all of a major global conglomerate's workforce lose their jobs.
