I’ve recently bought this sound bar and honestly I really don’t have any gripes about it. Sure the bass could be better, but if you’re living in an apartment and don’t want to make enemies with your neighbors, this will definitely get the job done. I feel people are a bit too critical of it, it is after all an entry level sound bar. For the price, it’s fantastic sound and material quality. If you’re on a budget, it’s for sure worth a look!

@@vapelord I only just purchased the bar within the past day or so but it doesn't sound terrible and is a huge improvement over the stock tv speakers. My main issues with it is the fact that the remote has hidden features behind each button that you basically have to always refer back to the manual if you want to change any of those features, the sound bar is somewhat hollow sounding and doesn't produce as rich audio as even my cheap Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 computer speakers, it actually has very good bass from my experience and seems to go to fairly low frequencies it will definitely shake the floor above me when the volume(not just the subwoofer volume) is cranked up but when you're listening to the audio at a reasonable level there's very little bass at all. I've also read reviews about the subwoofer failing anywhere between 6-15 months will light to moderate usage. I may return the product I'm not entirely sure yet. Oh and when I had the system set up in my 1,000 sq ft living room even at high volumes the bass couldn't fill the room what so ever, works much better in a smaller room as far as bass but then as I stated before you have to have the sound bar at a rediculous level to produce any noticeable bass.

I won one of these yesterday as a prize at work and all I can say is WOW I've never owed one, but do have a great stereo in my car and this thing sounds amazing and is so clear and bass is perfect. I watched top gun and it sounded like a jet was really flying over me.

I got this free with the 900f television but the soundbar won't be in stock for another week, can it be used without the subwoofer as I'm short on power outlets and it's going in a bedroom

What is model of the Samsung one you have?

I bought the same product and I am keeping it. First I want to address the issue of sync delay which someone mentioned. I had it initially but in my case it was my fault because I use the TV with a cable decoder and I had to use THAT optical connection not the TV one. Once I did that everything is fine. As for the set up of the soundbar. You have to go through the whole menu and try to set all the audio options on and off and then chose the ones that you want because there is no other way to know which option is on or off (It would be nice if there was an on screen visualization but you have to make do with several led text flashing once or twice to tell you which function and equalization is enabled). Much of the sound output really depends on the source. I have tried it with several different ones and the quality varies greatly. Yes I too do find that some very compressed audio comes out badly but much depends of what kind signal and how it comes to you. One of the reasons why I chose this soundbar was the fact that you have an almost white version which goes well with my TV set and furniture. These days there are very few of those available where I am.

Nanda Arif Jarusman No, you would have to do it by ear. If you have it connected by Arc I put, them adjust it with the TV remote

Another comment about the “ lack” of bass, first make sure that the subwoofer is actually ON. I know it sounds (pun) stupid but I did it too, it was off and only after a while I went to switch it on . There is a secure link switch too if the unit has any problem connecting to the main unit (in case of radio interferences). So make sure that the front led of the bass unit is actually on green or orange NOT red. After that regulate the basses with the remote. I don’t know how could some find that there is no bass since I put it on a low setting (again it would be nice to have an actual display showing a value, I am doing this by simple listening) because it is otherwise, way too much. As Sony says though. If the broadcast has little to no basses you will have problems to actually hear any bass. Another setting is to enable the Dolby function. You also have to make sure that your telly is regulated , I have set mine to work as amplifier alone. Yes the unit does switch on automatically as you switch on the telly or if you start any Bluetooth coupled devices.

But are you sure you’ve installed it correctly? Does the sub work and its volume (you can lower or set it higher) sufficiently high? Because I found that installation was complicated ( especially to sync with the optic and with the HDMI together without getting any delay) but once I got it to work the sound is very good ( by the way go thorough the instructions and try one by one all the options). People make very nice comments when they come to my place about the television sound. You can also set it for Dolby and provided the TV channel broadcasts like that you will get even improved reception.

Really useful information. I did the mistake of buying this set and I’ve had the same issues... so I hope I can return it today... I live in a little apartment and the MT301 does it way better, but unfortunately it doesn’t have HDMI Arc which is a huuuge hassle.

What I mean to say with this is that I don’t have huge requirements for volume.. and in general... but this system doesn’t seem to do the trick at all, no bass etc. exaggerated highs etc. no option to control this in depth and not even support of their own app. It’s simply not a product for me. (A bit frustrated to have bought)...

ratchetking87 you need to make sure your tv works with HDMI ARC if your tv doesnt have an HDMI ARC port that it won't work and you'll have to use the optical cable. But ARC is a buggy system since its loosely compatible between manufacturers which is stupid.

Connect the optical lead as well and it should work

I just purchased this on Black Friday sale for $149. I connected it with the optical cable and it worked fine. I noticed sound was coming from the sound bar and tv speakers so I muted the tv and just used the sound bar. I was impressed with the sound but noticed the slightest audio/video syncing that was hardly noticeable. I went to the settings on my tv and switched from tv speakers to audio system mode and to my surprise instantly the sound bar got louder and sync issues were gone. I will do more testing to see if I will keep this. Any recommendations for another sound bar in this price range that is better?

update: i have returned this sony soundbar. The audio lag issues came back. i now have the vizio 2.1 soundbar. it sounds and works great 10x more bass than this sony. $138 from sams club

I have bad audio sync on some hdmi sources. I can correct that from the source but it also suffers from drift where the sync gets worse over time. powering off and on the soundbar from remote sorts this. Loads of posts on this issue on this model across the web. On the bass issue it depends on what you watch. If its a film with bass its great, its not going to add bass to dialog that hasnt any bass in it.

If you use the sub in the way shown in your video, I am not surprised you find the bass lacking! Most bass comes from the rear of the driver, which is why there is a port on the back of the unit... My issue with this setup is more about the subs frequent failure to connect when I switch the sound bar on - this means I have to go clambering over the couch to power cycle it, the LED turns green, and it all works fine. My mates enjoy coming round to watch films, as the bass shakes the couch, even at low sub woofer levels. Not sure about the orange LED comments, when mines working, the indicator is green, and it sounds fine. I’ll check the manual (if I can find it)...

I just bought this a couple of days ago. It's not a bad setup but I wish the subwoofer put out more bass. It seems pretty weak even for it's size.

zjuan8 I'm pretty sure I did? How do you enable that setting exactly? I mainly play games and watch action movies on my setup but just by plug and play my old Samsung sound bar punches way more bass out compared to this and even that bar is a smaller setup.

How good is it compared to dav dz 650? Home theatre 5.1

I have the 650 and also the 290. 650 will mop the floor with 290 and many other systems.

I bought this sound bar. I think its great for the price, 199.00. Use it correctly. I put the subwoofer in the corner and I sit on the other side of the room.

Where is the sound from the soundbar.. only from your mouth!!

I am in the uk and got it from very.co.uk and it was 200 pounds on sale from 280 got to say it’s worth every penny it’s a big upgrade for me from my Sony briva tv I agree The sub is a bit weak but it depends on what kind of movie u watch and if it’s a dvd or a blue ray I find blue ray movies for me have a better sound. As for music I am into hard rock and things and my music sounds fine for me the only thing I wish is there was a way to tell on the display what volume the sub is on

Returned this product unopened for a full refund. Too many reviews pointing out syncing issues as well as sound issues. Thanks for posting, I’ll keep doing my research before buying another similar product

just press the input button on left top corner of your remote to change from USB to TV to BT or the Bluetooth icon on the middle of the soundbar to turn it ON and OFF

The orange light means the sub is linked to the sound bar - when the sound bar is turned on/off the sub will too - when the sub light is green it is on and working but not linked to the sound bar.

Wired connection is wayy better

I have this one. It is connect automatically to the subwoofer but... a sw is from the years of 2000s can produce BETTER and STRONGER BASS!!!! If you disconnect the subwoofer nobody hear the difference... disgusting

Sub is 6.5. I have the system and sound quality when i pair with my phone is very bad. For TV use its much better.

Guy reviews a cheap sony sound bar on a bad lg tv i know for a fact when it was compared with sony bravia next to each other i guess i won't be taking this review fully serious.

It sounds great on my Samsung smart TV! Yeah the bass isn't really deep but you can hear it if you turn up the volume enough

No bass at all... never buying Sony again.

Buy the JBL 2.1 Sound bar instead. Its $100 more but it absolutely destroyed this Sound bar in every aspect. The JBL Has much clearer highs, much better mids and bass that will obliterate this Sony's sub. The JBL also has allot more tuning options and an nice LCD Screen instead of lights. My HT-CT 290 Lasted a total of 6 months before the sub died on me. Sony did nothing to help me with it so I replaced it with the JBL 2.1 System and have been totally impressed.

RS4 B5 my subwoofer sometimes had some delay when i put the sub under the couch, but of i put the sub below the sound bar it hadir no delay
