    The X3000 is a great camera. I bought mine after I got fed up with all the issues my GoPro Hero 7 kept having. I'd never go back to GoPro again. I never realised about the USB power option as I have a similar battery pack but didn't know I could record while powering the camera from it.. I only ever used mine for charging the camera while it was in my bag. Thanks for such a great detailed video Chad.

    Good point, I guess you have to pick your battles. Do I want to have extra weight on the helmet and be recharging the external battery or do you want all the bratty wire routed to your USB 12v charger on the bike. Thanks and appreciate the quick reply. I pretty much have the same set up. Next I'm going to see if I can record audio using my Sena 20 and tether it to the X3000. Basically Video and Audio recorded while communicating via intercom of the Sena.

    I use it with an external battery all the time, I use a Power grip available at Amazon or any other external Power supply that you describe with a micro USB at one end and a regular USB at the other end I mount the camera on top of the Power Grip with a GoPro tripod mount and use a Go Pro mount with the tripod adapter, very handy I also use the Fleximic for the Oslo and extend it with a stereo jack to plug in and external mic it works perfect and better that the inboard mic, which is very good any way. Thanks Luidoly

    I also have the X3000 and I have used a 20,000 mah external battery backup to record with and I have a couple of issues that happened. I did this twice on long bike ride and I was using my iPhone to control camera. Both times it stopped recording. First time it stopped at 1:31:00 and the 2nd it stopped at 1:39:00 I also did same at home and let it record but without using iPhone to control. It recorded for 3:20:00 until I manually stopped it. Is the USB power not available while connected to iPhone? I was actually going back and forth on my phone from Strava app to the Play Memories App and the latter would reconnect every time in a few seconds. So I am guessing that Play Memories was not connected for the most part. Any comments on that? Have you encountered anything similar? FYI, the camera had 3 lines visible on the battery icon after bike ride so I guess it was using USB power but for some reason, it stopped. Could not have been the heat as it was 18 degrees Celsius that day and always being cooled by the wind of my biking speed. Thanks for your time!

    Thanks for Reply Chad! After further testing I figured out the issue. The X3000 heats up a fair bit when in use. Probably due to its small size. It recorded for 3 hrs and 20 min before I stopped it . But this was without using the WiFi to connect a phone as its remote. When I tried again with the WiFi, it got over heated after 50 min. This differs from my bike ride due to the cooling effect of the wind. Much longer on the bike. 1 hrs and 38 min. My next test will be with bike and no WiFi and that should result in as long as I want. I guess the WiFi generates more heat when being used.

    Quick question, I also ride a motorcycle and have a 12v outlet with usb charging ports, can I run this camera off my motorcycles usb ports? Also with 10 hours of battery life from say a 25000mah external pack, how long can you record in 4k using a 256gb microSD card?

  • @NicMediaDesign

    @NicMediaDesign

    7 жыл бұрын

    A 256 Gibibyte card (all digital storage is normally listed with its Gibibyte value) has 250 Gigabyte storage. If you record 4K at 60Mbit/s (which equals 7.5 MB/s), you can fit over 9 hours on the card. If you record with 100Mbit/s (which equals 12.5 MB/s), you can fit around 5 hours and 30 minutes on the card.

    People, If you want maximum performance out of the HDR-AS300 or FDR-3000 then use an SD card that is a minimum of 64MB and is an SDXC card. Cards less than 64MB don't come in SDXC. Also, in your camera menu choose HD XAVCS instead of MP4 video codec. You're welcome in advance.

I messed around with it and figured I can take out the battery completely and power it with just external source. Surprisingly it does not let me record in this state to the card, but I can do other weird stuff like put out HDMI signal and capture it with capture card. This makes sense for livestreaming setup that I am experimenting with. Anyhow, thanks for putting this out, it really cleared a lot of things for me. Cheers!

    I use this camera, various GoPro's including the 3,6 & 7 Black editions and a DJI Osmo. The FDR-X 3000 compared well against the GoPro 3 that suffered from the jello effect. The Osmo does a good job, but it is limited, always needs updates and takes too long to set up. The GoPro Hero 6 & 7 are the new kings with great picture quality, good reliability and they work well from external power sources (Just remember to take the battery out for the best results.) The X 3000 is not reliable on external batteries, with a tendency to overheat and turn off if set to 4K. I love Sony cameras, but this is not one of their best.
