I'd like to say, a big thanks to you for making this video. my EV-C3 had the issue with the arm popping loose. it is now fixed. Also checked the main filter cap on mine after you brought it up in the video. It's leaking and I'll be replacing that too.

Wonderful, informative breakdown! I have an ev-c100 hi8 deck I’m trying to revive with similar issues. Finally removed, cleaned and reassembled mode switch on mine. The end result 100% exactly the same loading mechanism behavior as in this video. All parts in place and gears aligned, but loading acts completely disoriented. Anxious to see if you’ll continue on this video!

You replied to me earlier and I appreciate it. Sony ev-c3 apparently has the capacitors in the preamp need changing (lines in screen and awful volume. Would you need the whole Sony, or could you just replace the capacitors? Believe if I had the correct capacitors, I could probably do it by myself. Really don't know what to do at this time. I have all these 8mm tapes and want to make them digital. Running out of options, and just wondering what the best plan on getting it fixed. Please let me know. I live close to the Seattle area. Could send just the preamp or the whole unit, but everything worked great except the streaky picture and broken volume.

I figured that if I could change out the preamp I would install it back in my unit. Everything else seemed to work (loading, forward& reverse works fine as well as lp so). Willing to send just the preamp for capacitor. Do you happen to know what the shipping charges would be from Seattle (98038) would be. I’ve watched your channel and I know I can install it back. My son in law dad was an electrical engineer and now retired. If problems arise he is there. Thanks for any response

Hi, they gave me a sony ev-C3E, it turns on but inserting the cassette sometimes turns but you see everything confused. The back and forth starts but the pins move briefly, the tape often unwinds, often only the left pin turns ..... I tried to clean the rubber pads with isopropyl alcohol but I didn't solve it. I wanted to start digitizing my old analog tapes.I have about 175 Mini dv’s and about 100 8mm tapes. I dislodged the tape on one of the units but don’t know how to eject the 8mm cassette now. A friend of mine when I handed him the pre-amp pulled on one the capacitors loose from the connections. I see that you replaced all the capacitors in these units. (Lines on screens) so they would need to be replaced for sure. I can either send the pre/amp. By itself or the whole unit. Wasn’t sure of your location on how close you are to me. Shipping into Canada can be expensive. I remember you saying that the value needed to be $20 or under for to prevent a lot of charges. Maybe you can enlighten me on the best way to handle my situation. My preference would be to just repair the preamp if possible. I can reinstall the unit back myself. I realize that it might not solve all the issues with the unit but I’m willing to live with that. I have another unit that I’ve gotten recently that I will be using to due my copying from. (Sony - EVO 510. I know this is getting long but wanted to give you as much information as possible. Kinda of wanted to try to solder the caps myself but need to find a place that will sell them singularly ( don’t need 15 of each). By watching you has given me courage to try. I’m very mechanical and have common sense and always wanted to improve myself. Let me know, where I would have to send it to for I live in Seattle. Thanks Ted

@@12voltvids Understand. Where would I have to send it. Realize that if you just do the caps it would be impossible to see if that fixes it. Problem is the friend broke off one cap so I figure that might as well get all 11 or 12 of them replaced. Plus the preamp is small and would be inexpensive to ship. Not sure what the whole unit would be to ship

@@lstein3372 Thank companies like Walmart for that. They demanded cheaper products so they could flood the market with cheap crap and the race to the bottom began. I saw this 18 years ago when i left the business. Even though i still work on some things it is certainly not a business venture and i make no money doing it. I do it as a production opertinity so i can make videos of repairs or at least attempted repairs as I make more from the advertising revenue than the actual repair. Fortunately some people are passionate about repairing electronics. Myself i an not one of them. I will do the practical repairs but I will back down on the more difficult jobs as there is no money in it. I have done a few, on my own gear, the Sony tv with the gamma chip replaced for example. One that i have taken much heat from the know it all trolls about how I did it wrong and how I need a hot air station ect. What these goofballs don't understand was it was a demonstration to show that it CAN be done with nothing more than a soldering iron, and that i do indeed know what I am doing because usually when I get something that is at that state of failure i will walk away.
