I have 2 of these in Australia i use them to convert my PAL beta tapes to ntsc using my PAL SL-HF950 and SL-HF150 i also record Google chromecast using a converter netflix amazon etc the edv 9000 puts a great picture on samsung smart tv too its has av inputs for newish tv what does EE button do

Amazing work!👍👍👍 Got EDV-9000 too and having some tracking / jumping colors problem. My freshly repaired EDV-5000 show better picture. I guess it's capacitor problem, have you done any re-cap except that bad smd capacitor on video board and PSU? Would be glad to know! All the best wishes!

Hi Crashezz ! I have checked and replace all smd capacitors . Smd capacitors all become bad over time.

Hi MISU! Thanks for your answer! Yes I just replaced all smd's along with PSU capacitors + a little extra soldering on the PSU as how you did in the video. Now EDV-9000 works great, thanks to you! Any plans on expanding your betamax vcr collection even further?

@@crashezz2456 In my country Betamax is not popular and nobody seems to know what format it is. I also only collect a few typical models. I like 70s machines like SL-7100, SL-8300 ...

It's the same in my country too, almost nobody here knows about this format. But that doesn't matter, I just love analog video. Good luck with those old betamax models!

Hello from Australia. I love your work. I was so impressed that I purchased two of these units. I restored one, and the other one I've almost fixed completely, but the recordings are not very good. The playback is perfect. The recordings have some light colour patterning in them. I'm not sure where to look. Do you have any ideas?

Actually the SMD capacitor was the cause (5:14). This video helped me restore my EDV-9000. Thank you.

Hello ! i have bought a fully repaired EDV9000 from Japan, but the sound has too much bass and not enough trebble, is there a screw inside to set it ? maybe on this little metal case with 3 adjstment screws on the right part of the inside?

Hi there, Thanks for your great work. I trying to adjust my 9000. I cannot import the pic quality. There is some noise at the top of the screen. No matter I adjust the tape guide it is still the same. I clean the video head. no change. I did not replace the problem surface mount capacitor. Is the video head gone? please advise

Does this problem occur on all tapes or only appear in certain tapes? If you use this vcr to record then playback it , this problem is still appear ?

Hi, I have an ed b v-9000 that goes into fast forward mode as soon as you load a tape. It winds for about 10 seconds then the machine powers off! Can you give me any tips? Thanks

Hi tpd1967 ! I have not met this problem before but I think that there is a problem with the tape begining sensor.

I bought an EDV 9000, beautiful machine, but the Beta HiFi is choppy at times with clicking sounds, but the carrier seems steady as their do not appear to be dropouts. But on heavy volume with kick drums it drives this HiFI sound with distortion. Either way it’s choppy most of the time. Perhaps it’s caps again, since most dry out, with SMD caps going first. The JVC HR-S8000 sounds much better in HiFi mode. Any advice on choppy HiFi sound?

Hi Terry Snyder ! Contrary to you , my HR-S8000 has choppy Hi-Fi sound problem while EDV-9000 still works in good condition. This problem may be caused by many reasons. If Hi-Fi choppy with no picture problem, may be either tape path or Hi-Fi head vertical azimuth are not good , further bad head switching or wrong Hi-Fi FM carry frequency is also a common cause.

Thank you very much for your reply. I guess I am spoiled by the Panasonic AG DS-850 HiFi sound which has been spectacular. But my Panasonic AJ-HD3700B digital HD D5 recorder is perhaps the best sounding of all at 24 bit audio/48 KHz sampling. I will check on the Sony EDV azimuth and tape path. It could be as simple as a bad tape. I will try that since I am new to Beta.

Hi CousinHubertRetrogaming ! What the output sound did you test ? Normal sound or Beta hI-Fi sound ? EE mode or playback mode ?

@@misu4602 thanks for reading my message! every betamax cassette, either beta hifi or normal sounds with a lack of trebble and too much bass, and when i push betahifi button, the light comes on on the front fascia "beta hifi" but the sound is exactly the same. my other betamax vcr sound good.

@@CousinHubertRetrogaming I think the Beta Hi-Fi circuit was bad, maybe there are some bad capacitors or NG regulator circuit.

Hi there, Could you advise what ball pen code to report the cassette loading? I cannot get any pen that thick here.

Each type of ball pen has different sizes, you should grind and glue to ensure the correct size.

Hi MISU! I suddenly had an interesting problem on one of EDV9000 , Beta HI-FI stopped working. The MIX and NORM modes work fine, but only silence at Beta HIFI. Can you recommend where I can try to look for the cause of the problem? Thanks very much in advance!

Fixed it! Thank you very much MISU! Your clips and IC regulator/capacitor suggestions helped a lot! This EDV-9000 must be full of problems you never know what will be broken in the future :D
