Actually, Sony is pretty good, but Leak has the warmest bass. Vintage look, vintage sound. Your whole system is getting better and better with every video. We are witnessing a real sound evolution here...

The leak seems to be the best match for a digital only system or brighter speakers. Very nice smooth sound.

Sony for me, much more dynamic with its attack. Followed by the Rotel, in fact I used to own the exact model CD player. The Leak is just too laid back for my taste.

Did you set the volume level using a measuring microphone/smartphone? At first glance it seems that there is a difference of a couple dB.

Yes, all set to 80dB using a sound meter.

I have an oldish, about 10 years old, dvd player by Sony, which was made redundant when I moved to blu ray. I recently bought it out of retirement to hook up to a new Arcam SA20 and Q acoustic speakers. The sound when playing a CD is surprisingly good. The Sony can play SACD as well and after spinning a disc, there was a noticeable improvement in sound expression as well. So I am not going to rush to buy a new CD player. Was looking to buy an Arcam cds50, because I wanted to get into SACD but its discontinued. Looking at Denon Dcd1700ne player. Anyone know if its any good? Its at the limit of my budget for a new machine that can do SACD.

The Sony more than holds it's own I'd say (full and rich). The Leak is fine (still full, but less than the Sony - maybe a bit more resolution). The Rotel comes in third (less bold/full - much thinner - than the others on my hd600's). Sony or Leak are good - just depends on which sound signature you prefer.

Sorry, I want to ask, have you ever checked your Linton for right and left channel sound? I just bought Linton 1 week ago, about 3 days ago I realized that the right speaker sounded brighter than the left. I've tried changing their places, but the bright voice moved too. Will they be normal after breaking in? Thank you.

Not had that issue with mine. It may improve after running in but if it still continues after 30/40 hours of use, I'd contact the seller.

Do you mean connect your Blu Ray to an external dac?? If it's so (via optical or coaxial output of your player), you will be hearing the output of your external dac

@@NaveedKhan-bs1sc in the last step, you should connect your dac (previously connected to your BR player), to your receiver via RCA output. If your dac has digital output, and your receiver has digital input (optical/coaxial), you will be hearing the receiver dac if you connect them that way. Hope it make sense!

Rotel is an CD player and thats it 👋

1st place........Rotel, best clarity, sounded a little more lively in the treble. 2nd place.......Sony, middle of the road, an excellent performance. 3rd place........Leak, not bright and sparkly enough for my taste.

I’m listening through your room, a microphone and pre-amp, whatever analogue to digital conversion you have your end, digital encoding and decoding with lossy compression, digital to analogue conversion my end, and then amplification before my headphones. What do you really think I can hear of the original sound you recorded? What a pointless video!
