Big thanks!! Same thing here, just what i needed to replace my TC-WR720's belts. As it practically is/was a dusty gift, along with a splendid CDP-970, i'm thrilled now i can get them both up and running again, hahaha :-)

I noticed that deck A has more problems winding a tight cassette back and forward than deck B. Both are the same motors and gears. I replaced all belts but somehow i think the power to drive these units is to low and it needs replacing electronic parts also (ELKO's). I noticed a relative high wow&flutter because of that on this machine, Unfortunately, you cant increase the torq on the RWD&FWD motors so they would put more tension on the tape and wind faster. The mechanism makes a lot of solenoid (movement) noise and the heads click and clack a lot. The BIAS computer logic works great, even if you use old baggage tapes from 30 years ago. I was thinking to reduce the speed for both decks to less than 4cm/sec so you can record 120 minutes on a C90 tape. IF you want to playback a standard 4.76cm/sec tape you use the pitch control on deck A to do that. This deck has all the features you want to have with a reel-to-reel deck so why not play with it.

Check the small gears on minute 5:47. Those little demons sometimes aren't properly aligned and don't hook perfectly by intensive using or even are broken (look for a VERY thin crack on one of them. If so they must be replaced or carefully glued with a superglue droplet). It's incredible the amount of problems they provoke: from high wow and flutter, savage speed changes, strange clicking noises and overall malfunctions even to the extreme of paralyzing the whole mechanism and destroying the cassette tape. Hope this works for you.

As of early May 2019, someone on eBay was selling a black, dual-cassette-deck boombox made in 1990. The sound system has auto-reverse technology in Tape Deck 1 (the non-recording deck), perhaps not in both decks. It has detachable speakers and a built-in single-disc CD player. The item is interesting but it is also flawed. (Why else would the item be sold?) Part of the brief description of one tape deck of the item states "...when playing a tape it just sounds like static, could be a [sic] easy fix." Is that true? Would such a problem be an "easy fix"? What's even more disappointing is that the description does not say whether it is Tape 2 (the recording deck) or Tape 1 that has the "sounds like static" problem. (Shrug) Could the problem simply be with the audiocassette that the seller tested the stereo with? (Oh, you wish LOL. Though I have this pre-recorded, professionally mastered tape of early 1980s performances of the works of Tchaikovsky. That cassette has an awful screech for much of the playback. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's played with auto-reverse or non-auto-reverse cassette decks. Even the non-recording deck of a CD "burner" that we have at home doesn't play that tape well SMH. I bought that tape as one of three used music cassettes on eBay in early 2017. I doubt that I've ever listened to that Tchaikovsky tape in full because of that awful screech. There was this tiny felt part that had come loose underneath the audiotape itself. I did a bit of repair on it using Gorilla Glue or Krazy Glue, but that didn't seem to help with the sound at all. Amazingly, a KZread thumbnail showing a guy holding an older audiocassette and describing "the Cassette Tape Pressure Pad" was sitting for a while in the "Up Next" column next to this long message of mine. NOW I know what to call that "tiny felt part" SMH) Or could the “rather low” problem with the “tape levels” of the “high quality JVC cassette deck” bought from a Goodwill store (in 2018?) by member THOMMGB be the same problem that afflicts at least one cassette deck of the stereo that I have in mind?

I found out that the two round ridged things all cassette decks have that i call *Spindles* or hat drivers, is a type of sprocket the cassette spool wheels sits on, and the sprocket "hat" is called a take up pulley and supply pulley, but i still need a tape cassette sprocket video showing how to replace a missing sprocket, lot of sad things happens to cassette decks like when the sprocket "hat drivers" goes missing

+Elisio Clio: Two of my old cassette player started to eat 2 of my tape, and the problem was not the take-up wheel not spinning, and does cassette work fine before in that player, and I know it was not the cassette because when I played it on my small stereo, that was new at the time, it plays fine even on the damage part of the tape, and even on my mom bigger stereo same thing plays fine even on the damage part of the tape, and if the music of that same cassette was recorded into a blank cassette, when I played the blank cassette on both tape player that eat tape, it does eat the tape of that cassette at all and plays fine. I found that really weird so I might have thought the reason for this was because the other cassette tape that I was using where not valid for old player because they could have been cr2 metal tape. That might be what happen the other possibility his since I used type 1 tape alot in that player that started to eat the tape on type 3 cassette, so maybe Type 3 cassette tape stick more easily on feredux resedue, while Type 1 are feredux tape, and they don't stick to feredux resedue, I did clean it and it help for one play through of a Type 3 cassette tape, and then I even de-magnitize the head, and clean it again, and this time it did not help at all play Type 3 cassette tape, but it still plays Type 1 cassette tape just fine.

Change a play main belt (x2) is not a problem. In my apparatus broken F/R gearwheel 5:54 both A & B mechanism, may be something also. Very-very noisy, stupid mechanic with cheep plastic, I hate Sony forever, and waste out that (in more good conditions, with box and RM-J910 in complect) Little F/R belt b.t.w. must be square 1,0 mm for self-centring. Belt from DVD/CD ROM not good, more thick. I tryed plumbing ring, bycicle camera in selfmade cut it, but no sucsess all ... Prototype this deck was midi-centers with rear data-bus shleiyph, it's not hi-fi in similar to hi-fi 430 cm case. Detonation in back directions more than in straight because different diameters of drive shafts. Good video. good precigion work :)

Right before the problem started it would play a tape but at the wrong speed (sounded like a chipmunk recording). Now it immediately stops after I press play.
