All photos edited with my Mountains Lightroom Preset Pack: www.digitalfilmactions.com/li...
I asked you guys on Twitter & Instagram if you'd prefer to see a Zeiss 35mm photoshoot or an unconventional lens photoshoot and the Zeiss won on both polls! So here is that behind the scenes, hope you enjoy 💛 We also added a new element to our videos where you can see what I see through the camera while I'm taking pictures - let me know what you think of it.
Big thank you to Zaful for all the lovely outfits for today's photoshoot!

    Two questions 1. How were you recording the screen? At 7:42 it looked like a wireless device but couldn't quite tell.I do a similar setup to record the screen but it's much more bulky. 2. Sounded like you were using the mechanical shutter. Any reason why you like that vs the silent shutter?

    Hey. I just got a Sony A7iii and Carl Zeiss 55mm. I've been watching a bunch of videos to learn more about how to take nice looking portraits and I see that low iso Is the way to go. When I turn mine completely down, my screen turns black(even in lit places), do you know why? I understand what ISO is but I'm not sure what I'm doing different from everyone I watched.

  • @juliatrotti

    Thank you! I personally prefer just moving the focus point around, eye AF can become pretty distracting when you're shooting for long periods of time. I prefer to use that function when I see a shot happening that I want and don't have the time to move the focus point to the right spot!

    Yeah it's the accsoon however we're not too happy with the device so we can't really recommend it. The size is great and so is the concept but quality and reliability is a different story. We're on the same boat, we find having Shogun's or Ninja's annoying to use at shoots as there is no way to flush mount and they stuff up the cameras centre of gravity/balance so we're trying out a bunch of different wireless options at the moment.

    Great videos and reviews, always great photo ops at Balmoral, I’m sure I’ve seen you around. One question, would you’d rate the 35mm of the 50mm 1.4 for portraits? I’m trying to decide which to go for, I read the 35mm Is good for landscape also but I need a lens for photographing the kids :) just concerned at the age of the 35mm. Also do you do family shoots?

  • @juliatrotti

    @juliatrotti

    Thank you! I have a video where I do a portrait shoot with 35 vs 50 if you search for those words in my channel. I really love the 35 and I used to do family shoots where I would bring a 3r to use the majority of the time and an 85 for a few extra shots here and there. But I think the video would be helpful to see the differences as the 50 is also a great all rounder lens and more of a “classic” looking focal length for portraits compared to the distorted 35

    @@juliatrotti Thanks Julia :) But you don't use the eye-af or do you like the small flexible spot better?

    Hi Julia! Just one question. I see you use Flexible Point and manually put it into the center of model face. Why aren't you using EYE AF?

    It’s too distracting to use all the time! I just use it when I need it 😊

    IDK to my eyes, the model’s head looks elongated in a lot of the shots. I must admit 35mm is not my preferred focal length for portraits. I much prefer to use a 50mm for Environmental Portraits. Can’t stand the distortion at 35mm. Great video though, with a very smooth photoshoot flow

    Another perspective : with fashion photography the distortion mimics the elongation of fashion sketches, so as a designer, I actually prefer it. It's a stylistic license, if you will...

    Yeah there's definitely closeup portrait distortion with a 35, but it all comes down to personal preference. For me, I think a pretty model, location and outfits mixed with an 85mm which is also a very pretty looking lens is almost just too much lol - I like to mix it up and give my images a little bit of weirdness with a 35mm as I feel like it balances everything out if that makes sense? In saying that I do still use the 50 & 85 quite a lot in portraits, I just do love my 35 distortion.
