I feel like I just got a mini class in photography. I just got my a7c today and was seeking to learn just a bit more about the product. I learned so much in the last half hour. Literally had my a7c out practicing what you were teaching so I could use the knowledge/tools in the field. Thanks for providing so much value !

Just what the doctor ordered, the perfect input to help me get more leverage out of my new a7c! Thanks! Most of it I knew from analog days, but it was great to see how it all plays out on the newer technology. This thing is a beast. Time to harness it!

Did you have any issues like this with the SONY A 7C when you took it out of the box right away? kzread.info/dash/bejne/aH2WtpWBoreciNo.html
Wow, you taught me something important here. I got my A7C the day it came out, it's my first camera ever (other than cell phone). I was shooting everything in Manual mode, I didn't even know S stood for Shutter priority or that A meant Aperture. The biggest thing I learned here is the meter values on the bottom telling you what the camera suggests doing to balance the exposure level. I end up fixing everything in post, thinking that I'll get better sharpness with low ISO and high shutter speed, and edit exposure in lightroom. Now I'm going to experiment more and see what actually works.

Awesome to hear Vincente ;) I would also recommend exposing using the histogram. You can see it by pressing the display button until it comes up. That in combination with the meter will help you determine whether you can raise the exposure or not for example. Also, you can use this tool to determine how many exposures will be needed to capture an HDR scene properly. All the best, Jay
this is such an insightful tutorial. my partner is new to the sony world and was quite nervous when she received the A7c as a gift. this has given her the confidence she needs to continue her youtube career. thanks mate

Hello, you should be able to download the pdf here: helpguide.sony.net/ilc/2020/v1/en/index.html
Thanks Jason for this great tutorial. It’s helpful as a refresher even for people that’s been taking photos for a while. I completely agree that the min auto ISO fast, fast, slow, slower settings are really helpful! One thing I was curious about is that sometimes, photographers will intentionally not rely totally on the light meter in the camera and shoot an image underexposed where the brightest part of the skies highlights are not clipped. Then in post, they might use a gradient filter or something in Lightroom to raise exposure to recover part of the underexposed image. The thinking is that that’s what is so great about these Sony cameras because of their dynamic range. Given that consideration, what is the best recommended approach at the time you’re taking the photo… should you rely on the light meter in camera and go for the correct exposure there, should you intentionally always shoot a bit underexposed? Also, do you have a video that covers the HDR mode vs DRO mode? Is it better to use the HDR mode to take HDR photos in camera or learn how to use bracketing and create the HDR photo in post?
@Jason_Hermann
2 жыл бұрын
Excellent questions T Sizzle and you have now graduated to the HDR world :) In situations where the camera is clipping either shadows or highlights, I go into HDR mode (bracketing) when possible. If that is not an option than I will under expose a bit to protect highlight data as long as it does not effect my subject to much. Portraits for example, you can only do so much... Shooting HDR with Bracketing is the best way to go. DRO just adjusts the single exposure for you... I recommend checking out this video tutorial on HDR Photography: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2mqkpV9Y5Svh9Y.html
Great tutorial! I have always been afraid to get out of Auto mode. Never knew by going to S and A the camera would compensate the other factors automatically. Definitely didnt know the camera would tell you the exposure in Manual. Definitely more confident now
