    ZVE 1 is probably the better choice for video. I took it out hiking for 3 hours in 90 degree weather.m with no overheating. It was phenomenal First time I have gotten steady walking footage on a Sony camera. Dynamic stabilization can’t be beat. Best photos ever. I bought a little viewfinder cup that straps on the LCD. Sigma 17 F4 is tiny and perfect outdoors. Sorry to gush over ZVE1, but it is what I’ve been wanting all along.

    @NicholasPaulFranks Howdy Nicholas, sorry for the delayed response on getting to reply to this. The reality is, this is just the season we're in with cameras unfortunately. Either it has a bigger and robust body design to better dissipate heat or it has a fan in it. All other camera's with top of the line specs and doesn't have the robust body design, it's likely going to need camera fan. Even in a colder climate the cameras need better airflow to dissipate that heat generated internally. It's just where things are currently.

    Great Video! Yeah this was my conundrum as well as I have the Zve1. The way I see it I would gain nothing by getting the A7c2…. I would get more megapixels, but I don’t use it for photos so that doesn’t make sense for me and I don’t need the EVF…. Sure it would be nice to have some more megapixels to crop in but the video is amazing on the E1 right out of the camera. So I’m going to stick with my E1. I feel the a7c2 should be a 1800 dollars, a little over priced .. just my opinion. They should have put it at a price point where it could compete with the R8 which is only 1500 bucks. I have that camera and it’s amazing as well for the price.😊. Looking forward to next video. Great job.

    Thank you! The big thing the A7C 2 has over the ZV-E1 is durability. For those wanting more traditional manual dials and buttons, and of course, an EVF will see the most benefit. If it was priced at $1500 or $1800, it'd sell even more like crazy.

    I loved this video and hated this video lol. Only because it was so transparent it sent me back to square one. As someone who recently started creating content on youtube, I got so excited about the video features from the ZV-E1 and i was ready to move on from my a7iii. Then, i got hit up for graduation season and realized how much i still love photography. With only the budget of using one camera, I was convinced that the a7c ii was going to be the perfect hybrid. Now the crop doesn't concern me too much because i shoot in home and around cooking. My B roll is product show case so i could make the adjustment. With that said, that sensor in the ZV-E1 is PROFESSIONAL GRADE. All in all, your video was incredible. I loved that you called out the flaws and were transparent about each camera's opportunities. So many reviews on youtube just sell both cameras. I love that you come out and call it how it is.

    3:31 the following feature produce additional heat: - Higher frame rates - larger sensors - pixel binning / up-scaling It doesn't matter which *full frame* sensor you place in that camera body, it's not going to give you 4k 60 with up-scaling and not introduce overheating.

  • @CaleMcCollough

    If you grab that 16mm Viltrox f/1.8 full frame lens then you won't have an issue with the crop, and probably the rolling shutter won't be an issue. I have an FX30 so I'm looking for something better at low light and has good bokeh at f/2.8. I could really use 4K DCI, but I'm wondering how those "cinematic" black bars work, is the output file 4K with black bars or is it actual that ratio baked into the (MP4) file?

    p.s. do you have any thoughts on the shelf-life of the ZV-E1 ...?

  • @DianaGladney

    @DianaGladney

    5 ай бұрын

    @NicholasPaulFranks Hmm interesting question. I think it'll be fine long term. There's a lot of cameras coming out right now and a lot to chose from but when the dust settles, people will either buy to increase their productivity workflow as a creator or to get access to different features. The ZV-E1's feature set easily meets both of those use cases. Consider this, the Canon M50 came out in 2018 and was arguably one of the most hated and controversial cameras at launch. Then, it found it's sweet spot with creators and 6 years later people are still buying it, using it, and loving it despite it being discontinued. It doesn't have nearly the features, specs, sensor quality, lens lineup, or anything else to match even remotely close the what the ZV-E1 can do. Yet, it still has a strong shelf life 6 years later. I'd venture to say any modern camera out right now, ZV-E1 included, will be just fine for the next several years. KZread makes it seem like everyone should "upgrade" their camera gear every year, but that's not reality for working everyday creators. The ZV-E1 will be fine lol.

    I'd still recommend checking out the creators I mentioned because they've shown using those cameras in those environments. If you want my opinion, I'd suggest the a6700 because the rolling shutter isn't as bad in 4k on the a6700 as it is on the A7C II which is using the A74's sensor. So, consider looking into videos using the A74 and how well it performed and that'll give you an idea of what to expect. But I can't speak to that use case personally because it's not the type of content I create.

    @@DianaGladney, shhhh! Don’t share this info on ZV-E1. Because of these naive comments I was able to grab a returned open box one month after its release at B&H for $1850. I thought it was a mistake but they said nope so I pair it with my A7S3 (for long form). I agree with your video and comments. A7C2 is more photo-centric hybrid while the ZV-E1 is more video-centric. The thing that kept me with this camera is that I shoot more 4K25 than 4K50 but I definitely use 4K100 for broll. So the A7C2 can’t shoot in 4K100/120. I can live with the crop in 4K50/60 especially for photos as I don’t shoot in that mode, but the rolling shutter and no slomo was not an option. For stills, I still have my A9, A7R4 but was looking for a hybrid that is strong on both. The A93 is showing good direction so maybe the A75 will be it. I didn’t see you add a smallrig or Tilta cage for more grip as my pinky hangs and these cages feels great when shooting all day. Otherwise when on travels, it’s all about being lightweight Anyhow, your audio is good and new sub!

    Black does not attract "more heat" than white... it's about speed! the reason they still wear white in snowy places is because white attracts heat slower BUT it holds it in for LONGER! black attracts heat quicker but also loses it quicker :D so if we're using that theory the white body may take longer to initially overheat but when it does happen you should expect a longer downtime before you can use it again :O

  • @DianaGladney

    9 ай бұрын

    That's the thing though, the a6700 isn't all that small lol All three cameras are nearly the same size. As far as the ZV-E1 and an EVF because Sony knows the people that will buy and use this camera regularly, aren't using an EVF, and those that want an EVF also want other features that'd make the camera overall step outside of what the main purpose of the camera is, ideal for video content creators. Similar to the ZV-E10, none of the ideal target market that uses that camera daily is worried about having an EVF, ZV-E1 is the same. I honestly don't think any of ZV cameras will likely have an EVF moving forward.

  • @DianaGladney

    @DianaGladney

    9 ай бұрын

    You should have kept your preorder, you might have still liked the camera lol Yeah, the dynamic active stabilization seems to be something reserved only for the ZV line of cameras because the a6700, A7C 2 or A7C R have received it. If overheating concerns are anything you're worried about, you should have stuck with the A7C 2 for the better body build. For 90% of what I do, it's not an issue but it's always a possibility. So, I don't think there's a one size fits all approach on the ZV-E1 unfortunately because some have issues with it and others don't depending on your use case. That's the ONLY thing that makes the ZV-E1 hard for me to recommend. Otherwise, it'd be a no brainer.

So, I'd suggest asking some filmmakers that have paired the BMPCC with the Sony A7S 3 and they'll be able to provide insight into how the two would pair since the ZV-E1 has the internals from that camera.

    The a6400 is great, I used it for that very reason from 2019 to earlier this year but the ZV-E10 is much better, more recent and costs less than the a6400. It has the same sensor and video specs as the a6400 but better features like eye autofocus, USB-C live streaming and a bunch of other creator specific features the a6400 doesn’t have.

    Nope, it's the exact same sensor and will produce the exact same quality image. The features on the ZV-E10 is better and adds to what the a6400 can do. Things like eye autofocus in video versus only face only detection in the a6400, USB-C vs USB Micro, faster and more accurate autofocus, and new creator-friendly features like product showcase mode, use with Sony catalyst browse should you ever need to improve stabilization taking the camera off the tripod, digital stabilization, etc. Many people start using a camera for one use case and naturally new opportunities or ideas arise and you use the camera you already have, the ZV-E10 offers a lot the a6400 doesn't for video use case scenarios. Which would you say zve1 or A7Cii would work great if you just want a camera to capture special family moments or life in the day content in video format? I use video now but i do want good quality pictures… i heard you can’t really use apsc lenses on the zve1 cause the quality would suck…

  • @DianaGladney

    @DianaGladney

    2 ай бұрын

    @newshapeymani9119 I've already made that choice for me personally, it's always going to be the ZV-E1 because I love it's feature set and the light weight body and the body design specifically for video use. However, for the average person, the A7C 2 would still be a great camera and if photos is a 50% or greater impact to how you create, even more so for some. If i know I wanted to focus on family events and all that, there's a lot to the A7C 2 body design that makes it the better choice. Now, the whole APS-C on full frame not looking good is a KZread opinion that doesn't hold water lol. Do you get the full scope of the sensor with a full frame lens on a full frame camera, yes. Do you miss out on quality because you use an APS-C lens on a full frame camera, no. You do have to crop in a bit because of the coverage not being wide enough initially. However, what you don't often here in those online rants in that conversation is how that same exact amount of coverage is eaten up anyway on APS-C or Full Frame lenses on a full frame camera as soon as you turn on stabilization. Just because it's a 1.5x crop on Sony APS-C sensors does not mean you need to crop in 1.5x to be able to use APS-C lenses on a full frame camera. If you did need to do that every time, it'd be a different conversation because now it'd be a 1.5x crop to use the lens, plus whatever additional crop you'd need when turning on stabilization. But that's not the case. I've had so many compliments from people in the camera space and those that are just the average everyday person compliment footage I've shot and it's a mix of APS-C cameras with FF glass or FF cameras with APS-C and full frame glass. The quality is based on the creator. Camera gear is soo incredibly good these days, these arguments you sometime come across that only exist online and it becomes a hairline difference that won't make or break anything.

    I think it's just the difference in body design coupled with potential internal differences for how they're managing the heat. I know "overheating" isn't a label any brand wants and considering Sony finally got rid of that title some years ago, they'll work to get it fixed in time. Right now though the specs of what the cameras can do are outpacing the camera body designs without getting stuck with a much larger camera body with a built in fan.

    No worries, I’m pretty active in my comments in the community. So, let’s have a bit of a reality check lol You have G.A.S. Bad lol (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) aka you’re just buying gear because it’s the latest, looks fun, don’t want to feel left out with whatever is recent. There’s two ways to deal with this: 1) Accept that you just want something because you want it, without trying to justify the purchase with a false use case of how it’ll be helpful. 2) Stop buying in excess, figure out what you really like and want, and stick to it. It’ll be a process learning to temper your urge to buy, but nothing’s a loss because you don’t need it. Here’s the kicker with either of those, neither is wrong, it’s simply a choice. You get to decide. If you just like buying a lot of gear, trying it because it’s fun and you enjoy it, that’s fine. Enjoy it without falsely feeling like you “have to” justify the purchase first. You don’t have to, and that’s okay. If you feel your camera buying has gotten out of hand and you’re feeling the desire to want to get control of it, that’s fine too. There’s no limits to what you could dream up and create with the fleet of cameras you already have. The same tech in the A74 is the exact same in the A7C 2. The only difference is the body design. It’s clear there’s no actual need for the camera, just decide what school of thought you’re going with. If you simply want to try it, just rent it for a couple of weeks and get it out of your system. If you know for a fact you’ll still end up buying one just because you want it, might as well buy it at the better price. Otherwise, exercise restraint and build up your discipline to stop buying in excess.

    Actually, no I wouldn't recommend it for live streaming. As much as I love and enjoy this camera, and actually stream with it for long periods a lot myself, it can be too unpredictable from one person to the next depending on the environment they're in and if the camera has adequate airflow for it to stay cool enough to avoid over heating while streaming long periods. I'll be sharing a video soon on how I'm getting longer stream times with the ZV-E1, and still waiting to test the Ulanzi fan they created to cool the camera (but that'll require time to test), but I still wouldn't recommend it for streaming as the primary use case.

    I hear ya! The thing with the A7C 2 though I think Sony know users will spend that money to get one or the other, and a few will get both the A74 and A7C 2 because they enjoy the A7C form factor. There are also those that just will mainly use 24p or 30p with the occasional 4k 60p. So, any limitations compared to anything else become less relevant to them because they’re getting an ideal package in their preferred form factor. It’d be awesome if the A7C 2 came in in $1800 or so, but Sony knows their audience and they’ll spend that $2200 easily lol

    lol I feel you. It really depends on what kind of content you are creating currently and plan to create in the future and which option best fills that need. I'd suggest pulling off KZread videos for a bit and list out your current content needs and future goals over the next 1-3 years. Nothing fancy, just keep it simple. Based on YOUR needs, which best fills that need now and in the future. We can compare spec sheets all day long and it'll do squat if they won't actually improve or make creating content for you more efficient, fun, and simple. If you know you'll use higher frame rates for slow motion a lot, then the ZV-E1 spec wise is the better option. If you plan to do a ton of photography work or 50/50 photos and videos, and care about MP count on the sensor and all that, then the A7C 2 would likely work better for you. If video is the primary focus and you want that FX3/A7S 3 sensor and specs with creator centric features, the ZV-E1 is the go to. For me personally, the solution is alway simple because I'm 99% video, I love the FX3.A7S 3 sensor quality, love the ZV lines focus on creators and having extra helpful features for content creators built into the camera, and 12MP is more than plenty for any photos in any capacity I plan to use. That'd be my suggestion. Get what fits what you plan to do and the camera you really want. Otherwise, you'll keep watching more KZread videos to convince yourself of why you should have gotten the other one instead of creating content lol. Hope this helps.

    What's better for content creators? -- Easy, it's a cell phone. That's what my daughter uses for her channel. The most important things for content creators is CONTENT! And for 99% of youtube content there is nothing better suited for that than a cell phone. Moreover, people often forget that Audio is a lot more important than Video, thus focusing their efforts on the wrong subject. Learn to speak clearly, get a good microphone with a tiny dedicated recorder, that you can hide on self, don't use camera mic. The best place to hide the microphone is in your hair, if you have it, of course. Record your videos in the morning while your voice sounds better. These things are important, cameras -- not even a bit.

    Very true facts indeed BUT a smartphone isn’t ideal for everyone or most use cases. Entrepreneurs won’t film or stream an event on smartphones. The camera is just the tool you use to create. So, it’s about getting the right tool for the right job. Content or audio or storytelling will never cease to be important but removing distractions visually and with your content workflow have a different kind of value and none are measured equally.

    If that's all you personally want or need then you're good to go. Looking into new camera gear is already a waste of time. However, the problem with the whole content vs gear argument is that's usually taken out of context and used in scenarios where content value isn't the issue, the gear is. When you have something that's wasting time because in some way is more inefficent, you have to create workarounds, or are constantly running into the same bottleneck, the gear is the problem. That's what these kinds of videos on my channel differ. Your camera gear should solve problems for you, not create new problems. At the point it's creating more and more problems, and those glass ceilings of any camera is now wasting time, it's time to change gear.
