    great tuto and gorgeous photos with both lenses. I am surprised to read some high shutter speed for low motion with very high iso. However results are excellent ! - Do you shoot in manual or aperture priority (min 1/250sec F/1.8 auto iso...) ? - do you use back button focus or half pressing shutter button ? - any recommendation for a7rv for focus mode with that 35mm F/1.4 (full, zone, spot, extended spot with or without tracking option) ?

    So far I collected the GM24,35,50 and 135.. definitely go for the GM50.. interestingly enough I still wanna get the Zeiss 55 because of the compactness. Also it is interesting that the 55 has same kind of front element as the GM50..

  • @farajistarks501

    @@johnadams3038 the 55mm Zeiss has some noticeable color fringing, both cyan and magenta, in high contrast areas that I need to correct. I tested the 50mm GM and those corrections were simply not necessary. Also the close focusing distance is about 1-2 steps closer on the GM. Other than those two things, the Zeiss has been a great lens, even with my A7RIV with all the megapixels.

Just added the 50mm 1.2 and now im in love with this one...i feel lucky to be able to afford such top notch glass... i ve tested them vs the cheaper sony options and found, that the biggest difference for me was actually not so much "amount" of bokeh but the quality. Also the colour-Rendition of the gmaster glass is absolutely outstanding... sometimes i have some shots with the tamron 28-75 (ofc much cheaper glass i know), and i immediately notice the lack of colour...BUUUT, i only ever notice it when i direct compare, the tamrons are fire as well..

    I'm about to start doing outdoor family portraits. I want to do it professionally.. thing is I'm not sure what lenses I should buy for the A7iv. I think I'm between a 35mm f1.4 + 85mm combo or possibly a 20mm f1.8 + 50mm f1.2 or meybe Tamron 35-150 + some prime. I love that 40mm area focal length so I'm thinking I should go with the 35mm and crop a little which I already do most of the time. Any thoughts?

  • @m0nztam0nk

    @m0nztam0nk

    @@Elazarko ive tested many sony e-lenses. As i luckily own the gm glass, its my go to option for paid jobs atm… HOWEVER: especially family portraits need stopping down (shoot 3 or more people at 1.2 and only 1 is in Focus) anyway, so sonys 35 1.8 and 85 1.8 are absolutely amazing options that are 3x cheaper and when stopped down around f2.5 and editet are almost indistinguishable to the gm glass. AND, im starting to feel the weight of the chunky 50 1.2 quite a bit, so id reccommend the 1.8 options if im honest. The 35mm has no real flaws except price. Also: 35/50 and 85 are great portrait lenses as a starting point.

    I have the FE 35 1.8 and the GM 50 1.2. I think both are great lenses, and even the FE 35 is no slouch. The pictures I get from it are quite sharp, the focusing is quite snappy, and the colors and contrast from the lens always impress. While I love the 50 1.2 and tend to use it most of the time, it really isn’t a knock against the FE 35: my preferred do-it-all focal length is 50mm. I just love the versatility and looks I get from that lens at all apertures. More so, I am not really a wide angle photographer, unless I am messing around with landscapes and the like. I guess what I’m trying to say is this: while the GM lenses are nice, don’t sleep on the FE lenses, especially the FE 35 1.8. For the money, that lens, especially if one does a lot of video, is hard to beat. The photos are fantastic from that lens, and it has virtually no lens breathing when shooting autofocus video. Just saying.

    Ill be honest and say this video only made it harder to decide between the two! I have both the lenses reviewed in this video. I do automotive photography and both perform exceptionally well. I considered switching my 35mm f1.4 and going to the 24mm GM (can go to 35mm in APS-C) mode. My opinion on the 35mm is it is a safe lens, it'll do exactly what you want it to do and perform at a high level. I feel the 50mm just adds a bit more personality and can really tell a different story. Provides a bit more character at that focal length (obviously this is debatable, just my opinion) and can capture more exclusive shots than every other 35mm shooter. There's really no wrong answer, its based off your preference and how you want to capture the event. Good luck everyone!

    What did you decide on? I use an APS-C camera but planning on getting the equivalent focal length. I have the same thoughts on the 35mm being the safe and all arounder lens but IMO both the 24mm and 50mm just destroy it when they are used at their fullest potential. Feels like the 35mm sits at an awkward spot. However, I'll gladly take it if I could only have one prime lens for the rest of my life due its innate flexibility.

    I love the small size and balanced performance of this 35mm f1.4. However, the 50mm f1.2 is heavy, bulky but the images from this lens are different from other Sony lenses. The sharp yet somewhat creaming classical lines, the neutral color, the beautiful film like transition of shadow and the crisp & soft edge to edge clarity, it really rivals well with the much more expensive and heavier Hasselblad 80mm XCD. This 50mm is a constant on my camera.

    Is it worth getting the 50mm rather than the 35mm GM? I was thinking to upgrade my sigma art 1.4 35mm. but dont know yet haha. The 35 GM looks much better than mine

    For choosing a single all around with the R4a what would you consider. Have the 35 1.4gm currently but eyeing the 50 for a full stop extra light.

  • @MagicWeddingPhotographer

    @MagicWeddingPhotographer

    2 жыл бұрын

    f/1.2 will only be a 1/3 stop of extra light compared to f/1.4. I'd say that 35 is more of a all around lens, as you can do more with it. 50 might be difficult indoors / in tight spaces. What do you mainly shoot?

    It’s called Real Time Tracking AF and it’s the bottom one on the focus area list “Tracking”. Then when you focus on something on hold shutter half pressed it should lock on the subject

    Oh please please stop it... I decided few weeks ago for 35mm after hours of reviews. Thought about 24mm too. Now I'm struggling again ;-) 50mm 1,2 is so amazing but a bit more expensive as well. Hmm, I hope Sony will not announce the next big small lens again. Cannot buy all of them... even if I would like. I have the same issue in my head as He Xu mentioned: 35mm + 50mm will be maybe to close to each other. Thanks for your great videos. Why they are great? Because they are showing real graet pictures instead of test sheets or bank notes zoomed in... Thank you & dzieki again ;-)

    @@MagicWeddingPhotographer I was really fencing between these two. I ended up going with the 50 because it's kinda "special", and I like its size and weight on the a1. I might also get a 35 if 50 feels not wide enough sometimes - we will see. For context, I recently just started trying out portraits. Before that, I'm always using telephoto lenses :)

    Have g master 24-70 lens was thinking getting this 35 mm next but comments here are saying no sticking with my 24 lens now I know the 24 lens has better blur probably than my 24-70mm Now I see some like 24-59 lens but all you professional shooters are what would you go with for shooting video? What would be your next lens? I want a lens where I can go even closer and tighter and being super sharp focus and I wanted to be a G master lens.. Thanks
