What he always was. He was the son of King Thrain, descendant of King Durin the Deathless of Khazad-dum. He was the heir of the carven throne of Erebor.

Just imagining dwarves and men arming up ready to fight the host of Easterlings and Orcs that Sauron sent to claim the Lonely Mountain, even as he launched an attack of similar size on Minas Tirith in the south. Minas Tirith and Erebor, the two lynchpins of the defences for Middle-Earth, as strategised by Gandalf.

This song has without fail, every single time given me chills. There's so much power in music and in voices, and this is one of the best examples. The trumpets starting off, giving off the noble dwarf feeling, then the chanting starts ( 0:09 ) and the trumpets change to a melody that (to me personally) gives a feeling of hope and of rising up, then (0:21) I can feel the energy as the chanting pumps you up, and the trumpets do the same, every single time I can see Thorin and company charge out of the mountain and the dwarf army rally behind them. I know that many Tolkien fans hate the Hobbit (and with good reason) and the Tolkien fan in me hates the movies too, but the movie lover in me absolutely loves them, and in my opinion, this charge summons (almost) as much emotion and energy as Aragorn's speech and subsequent charge at the Black Gate.
