Regardless of his incredible hand skills, I find him one of the least musical among the well-known drummers. He had a good groove in the first piece, but I agree with other commenters that most of the rest of it was crap and went nowhere, which is the real reason the onlookers were merely standing and watching. Amazing hand skills does not mean all of his work is good music.

@@billk9583 It's NAMM, the musicians are paid to flail their(companies) gear. It's not a show of music, it's a show of equipment. I know no one thinks that, but in this context, it's necessary to think that. Even with that aside, I didn't see him fall out of a groove because he's flailing at all.

The chemistry between these two guys is so flawless. I love how they do this give-and-take thing. They totally get high off of hearing each other do cool shit, very fun to watch.
Ich watch this vid at least 2 times per year and especially the first part keeps giving me goosebumps every single time 👍🏻❤️
Holy hell this guy is good. I've seen plenty of super-technical cats before, but no one merges chops with intelligent playing like this guy does. He's like cybergenetic upgraded version of Buddy Rich :D

I always watch these things wondering what it would be like to just walk up with no expectations from this guy, and then he goes full beast mode and blows your mind
Just...wow. I'm so glad I found this. Creative, beyond technical, with spirit. Incomparable. Other worldly. But best of all...MUSICAL. Thank YOU Jojo Mayer and Janek Gwizdala.
even jojo made some kind of dubstep, I like that he is an open person and his drum & bass/jungle is amazing, feels natural
Beautiful groove, amazing wrists, fabulous technique. Here is someone that understands why technique is so important.Viva JoJo Mayer.

When you reach this level you move in the direction of conceptual thinking and let the music take you away to that creative space and just groove. I agree he has the technical skills to do most anything he wants.
Also, this is some of most inspired playing I've heard/seen from him yet. And that is one hell of a bassist too, I'm baffled how he keeps up with some of Jojo's fills without dropping out :o
2024 and Jojo is still one of if not the most under recognized player on the planet.
Drums and Bass guitar, perfect symbiosis
Hey that's me sitting in back of the drums to the left of Jojo. Love his playing awesome!
I just appreciate Jojo's playing. Always different with his phrasing and his drum fills are out of this world. Definitely one of my favorite drummers for sure.
Imagine if Jojo Mayer jams with Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher)

The video said 18 min and I was like eh I'll jus watch abit. Ended up watching the whole thing because it was so FRESH, TIGHT, ENTERTAINING and it had suspense tht got me lie... And two legendary musicians who know how to play together and even how to create a sound That doesn't just sound good but this is cause they match what is being played

One of the slickest drummers on the planet.
His sticking on the ride is second to none. Amazing grooves and timing!
I could watch him play for hours on end. Amazing drummer!
If people can get through a couple minutes intro this is probably one of your most universally loved videos on youtube, give it a sec people , to use a pun let him drop the bass

Holy. fucking. shit. Until an hour ago, I'd never heard of Jojo Mayer or Janek Gwizdala. Now I want them to adopt me.
jojo mayer the octopus
Well, Janek is not a tech junkie, but boy, he just killed that bass with those pedals! Very mature playing. Jojo, you know, is a beast. Perfect rhythm section.
That is truly one of the greatest performances I have ever enjoyed and appreciated!
I just found this and i can't stop playing it, superb.
Jojo Mayer - looks like he was designed by Jim Hensons workshop, sounds like Christopher Walkens' dropout younger brother and is a genius, philosopher and drumming legend. What a dude 😎
WOW! That bass player is nuts! JOJO mayer is next level!
Seen this video multiple times and it still blows me away how much control Jojo has when playing.
Janek's pedal video sent me here. Glad I watched this, as it was quite an amazing spectacle. Totally next-level playing.

Regardless of his incredible hand skills, I find him one of the least musical among the well-known drummers. If he does stumble into a groove for a few seconds, he finds a way to flail himself out of it on the cymbals. This is the umpteenth video of him (and the last one) I've watched hoping that he'll stumble into a groove worthy of his skills.

This guy's is awesome ...and the bass player was just jamming out..loved it ....

Oh God yes. There aren't that many time signatures or subdivisions in existence, at least I didn't think so. I also love the casual little flicks between traditional and matched grip as required. The bass player ain't bad either.
0:00 - 5:50: Se7en 5:59 - 13:40: Catachresis (please correct me on this one) 13:41 - 18:30: Tetrastigm That transition from the second one to Tetrastigm tho....
Lord, I could listen to this all day.
big props.. that was some amazing bass playing and amazing teamwork... just freakin amazing
he knew exactly where he was in the groove the whole time. i give up. gonna go sit on my sticks now !

Thank You Jojo!!!
What a story this guy has......from screech from saved by the bell, to world renowned drummer. Does he still hang out w/ Mario Lopez and Tiffany Amber Theissan and the rest of the cast?
This sounds so freakin awesome!!! Make the bass a bit louder and I would listen to this 24/7! My fav part is from the beginning up to 5:50
I think it's the 20th time i am viewing this performance... Jojo is incredible, so is Janek. A prefect duo !!
Pure artistry. Simply amazing.

one of the most musical performances of all time. an icon Jojo. every drummer should have a poster of that drummer in his/her drum room!
My favorite drummer of all time.
leading up to 12:46 he starts to blend the rimshot snare with the 'twang' of the floortom hits close to the floortom's rim. I had to re-watch it a few times to get where the accent overtones from the snare were coming from - I really doubt I could've guessed what was going on without seeing it. fucking genius
Jojo is awesome, o doubt about it, That bass player is also briliant, The 2 did pull of a great show, Nothing 2 fancy, They did something awesome with what they had
merci à toi sonorusa pour cette immense moment de bonheurs

Jojo Mayer is BOSS in all aspects of drumming. This groove is just sick! That is what you call skill... What the bass player is showing you is not only skill to groove in timing, but 1 of the most important thing in being a musician... That is DISCIPLINE!
why did i watch then as I was about to go to bed?!!! now im just smiling to myself whilst raving!
