Now that Jeff Beck has passed, Sonny is now at the top of the pops.

No one else sounds like Sonny Landreth. It's always a pleasure to watch and hear him play.

I love all the harmonic content he gets out of that axe.His sound is sooooo warm yet gutsy and articulate.

This guy is great. I mean GREAT. I was transfixed for the entire video. What an innovator. WOW.

You should see what you can of Roy Buchannan and Jimmy Thackery . Thackery is alive and kicking . Plays small halls from what I've seen . Last time I saw him it was $20 . BFD ! Puts on a killer guitar demo .

I have probably watched this video 200 times in the past few years and I never get tired of it. Kudos to the cameraman - for a homemade effort it's really quite good. Being able to see everything he's doing close up is absolutely fascinating.

The camerawork is so good it's almost a tutorial on his technique. You can even see how high he has his action set.

When I heard the song Tell at home. Sonny Landreth had me in his pocket for the rest of his life and mine. He is one of the best slide guitar so I ever saw I saw him perform where he didn't even touch the strings with his right hand and it was one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. This man is a magician when it comes to the guitar he will slide his way into history.

Sonny is the best slide player going right now. Mark Knopfler says so, and that's good enough for me.

My hound and I met Sonny and band. . I saw a tour bus pull into a motel 7. In the country,of course. Outside Rochester NY, around 8am. He liked my dog,put up with me 😂❤

Sonny is an alien, amazingly musical!!!!

Had 2019 tix to see him at a theater in Boston, then the venue was changed to a shoebox-sized, "everyone just stands" place in Cambridge, so I opted out... Then came COVID... But today I grabbed a pair of tix to see him, at last, at the Bull Run in Shirley MA in November. Can't wait - this guy's a wizard.

My uncle lived in a cabin in Colorado for about a year with old Sonny back in the 70's. GREAT PLAYER! Never met him myself but hear he is a good dude too.

I had the privilege I have growing up in Lafayette I’m hearing this guy play. He is phenomenal. And yes you were all correct! So many people died before their time. But this guy is phenomenal. Mark Knopfler even says he’s the best slide guitarist in the world. And I agree wholeheartedly. The funny thing is that with the same age basically and he is phenomenal. There’s nothing like the sound of Sonny. Especially when you walk at the Grant Street and hear him play

I was working for Bud's Guitar & Drums in high school in Lafayette(mid 70's), when Sonny came around. He played & sat in w/TONS of people. Clifton had him in the band, When Sam wouldn't tour, Sonny hit the road w/Michael Martin Murphy. He played w/the guys from the Red Beans & Rice Review. I took a few lessons, but he never taught my guitar to play like that!lol I moved away in the service & life. In '96, I was living in Santa FE,NM when I saw his name on a bill down the street. I was amazed! He hadn't changed & was just as an amazing guy as he was a guitar player. He was another of those "overnight success stories" that took 40 years! Always inspiring!

Sonny's been my new hero about a year now. He's great, no dispute, but a special thanks to whoever shot this clip, a photographer and a guitar player no doubt. No zoom in to Sonny's nose or the top of somebody's head, just both hands during the lead and pan out at the end. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

A true guitar god is Sonny. Absolutely superb video. Finger picking plus a thumbpick, and of course the slide. Nobody does it like Sonny and therefore no one sounds like Sonny, totally inimitable technique.....and it swings like hell. Sonny thanks for coming up north to MN so often to warm us up here, all the way from Louisiana. We love ya!

As my brother once said about Jeff Beck , man, both his hands are busy. Describes Sonny's style. His fingers are doing things like muting strings that aren't even part of what you hear. A master.

I was actually at this show and I've seen Sonny play 6 or 7 times. His playing is mesmerizing!!!

This dude is just RIDICULOUS. in the best way possible.

Best advice is to completely ignore the ‘best whatever’ lists and listen to and enjoy what you like.

Yeah his right hand is especially amazing to watch.

I saw him last night in Albuquerque, and was awestruck! He was the lead in act on the current Frampton's Guitar Circus tour and played for 30 minutes. I could have listened to just him all night... would love to see him play with the Allman Brothers!

Sonny is one of the best on the planet. He's got the gift, and has practiced his ASS off to perfect it. Pretty nice to be around to hear Sonny. Wouldn't you say so folks? I just don't get 8 dislikes. What's that about? Oh thats right, this is life, and you can't please all the people all of the time, which is fine. But I say to you dislikes, a 4x4 wacked up side your heads, would bring you around.

saw him live before ever hearing him before about 6 years ago and as a very succesful professional guitar player i literally had to mop up my melted off face from the floor of SOGO in baton rouge that night. Been a huge fan ever since. Going to see him for second time next week. Cant wait!!

An amazing talent. That said, I still think that both he and John Hiatt should be required to tour together with each performing their own set and then also performing together. The synergy they have together make peanut butter and chocolate pale by comparison... ;-)

Reinventig slide guitar....this guy is the most technical slide guitar player ever.

Sonny was on NPR tonight and I couldn't get enough. So here I am, immersing myself in the music. Truly awesome. Unusually good quality video, too!

The first time I heard Sonny was on one of those floppy 7-single things they stuck into Guitarist magazine but I can't remember the tune. The flip-side was Steve Vai playing another something and BOTH just blew me away. The next time I heard Sonny was on a compilation album playing Zydeco Shuffle . . . oh my! Fell in love with his playing. However what I did want to say is LISTEN to that Dumble Overdrive Special - sonic heaven!!

Come to New Orleans during Jazzfest and he will play three to four nights plus his Jazzfest set. Rock 'n' Bowl is a terrific venue to see him. Stick around after the show and you probably can have a beer with the band. If he plays on the same card as Tab Benoit, they will jam at the end of the night - now that's awesome!

As Eric Clapton said Sonny is one of the most advanced guitarists ever. Unique in style and delivery, on the same level as Jeff Beck in that regard, IMHO.

A bluesman with his own musical style, it's pretty rare ! rocks.
