My first and my favorite Sonny Fortune album. Sadly long gone from my collection...lost, damaged, loaned and never returned,...I don't know, but it was great to listen to it again after all this time. Thank you.

great musician - a virtuoso - great man, great post. blow, sonny, blow! caught him hundreds of times before, during and after this release - from NYC to SF/LA. i was in college when this came out, and he was a visiting professor, gave workshops and concerts. everything ya need to about the man is in his music - technically ambitious, emotionally charged, with warmth and artistic individuality - all evoking higher beauty and power - this man has elevated cultural discourse on planet earth~

Bought this LP back in 1976, and still have it. I'd love a CD, but alas... An Amazon reviewer Richard Ferrie wrote this: "After an amazing stint as Miles Davis' reed man, Sonny Fortune carried jazz to an extraordinary new height on this amazingly consistent, daring and yet accessible release. Multiple listenings reveal an infectious classic with a perfect balance of jazz sensibility and forward movement. Unfortunately, as happens so often in jazz, this fine music label (Horizon) folded and took some powerhouse releases, perhaps most notably this Sonny Fortune masterpiece, down with it into the realms of silence and the forgotten." Thus it is entirely possible the master tapes are lost. (I personally know of two musicians whose early master tapes are already lost. ) We can always hope a reissue is possible.

I wish they would do what they did when cds first came out and the master tapes couldn't be found ---- get an lp and adc it. Example being Elton John. With new technology for pop/crackle removal we would have a cd..... I have several lps which have never been put on cd. Jay Hoggard and Gap Mangione being examples.

This album plays in me head like ear candy. A jazz band instruction/ saxophonist from Count Basie's orchestra told me Sonny Fortune was a rhythm genius. So I can't figure out why Waves of Dreams got bad reviews. I love it, and I'm pretty sure I still have the LP.

A personal and personable friend from 1990 until the transition. First face-to-face after years of correspondence came when he headlined a jazz festival that was produced in Mobile by the Gulf Coast Jazz and Heritage Festival. Free concerts. We raised the money to take care of guest talents like Sonny. He was a consummate musical talent and the consummate gentleman. He ain't gone nowhere.

An old mix tape in the car got me here! I have this and about 3 other Sonny albums. Serengeti Minstrel (Bacchanal) is absolutely fantastic but the opening track on this album is my all-time Sonny favourite. Seeing beyond the obvious, a masterpiece. What blowing on that soprano. Must have hit every single note possible here. Masterpiece.
