my father was Don's manager in the 80's/90's in SF. My parents first met Don and Moki when they were actors touring Europe. Don was like an uncle to me growing up. He would improvise with me when I played cello, gave me piano lessons, took me roller skating in GG park and gave me the best pink GAP bag when I was 9 years old with $20 inside of it which I still have to this day and it has traveled the world with me. Walk on Uncle Don and rest in power. Brown rice, miso soup and palm trees ;-)

"Om Shanti Om" is a chant in most Hindu and Buddhist prayers. The word “OM” is thought to constitute the divine in the form of sound. It is the universal sound where its utterance is the sound of creation itself. The word “SHANTI” means a deep and profound level of peace.

Don Cherry was a musical griot and pioneer of free jazz and world music. He was also one of the first US jazz musicians to travel to Africa and Scandinavia and collaborate with local musicians. A master improviser, and fluent on a wide variety of instruments, he always played with ecstasy. Long live Don Cherry--he died too young.

I find it peace giving and healing to my weary soul... There's even a call to action that can be heard when listening .... This call.... This action... Do you feel it too? This call to love intensely... To love beyond boundaries... To love in a way that allows us to process the pain for others... To live in a way that takes us out of our own dilemma and helps us carry the weight of the world and yet.... Move forward... Sometimes spinning.... Sometimes slumbering... But Loveingly with the intentions of beauty manifesting among the multitudes through the internal physiological reaction to music .... Thank you for giving us this tool ... Your beautiful interpretation ... Your gift is received with a full and happy heart

So please share this and the other jazz greats with the young folks. They usually love it if given an ear. And might create some new artists. Thanks.

It’s so sad whenever someone leaves your life, whether it be someone small that barely left an impact on your life, or even someone you hate, the idea that you’ll never see them again and both of you will go on to live your life growing old is terrible sad and makes my heart ache. I don’t know why but I can never seem to forget and let go of people.

time to join all these comments :] honestly, it's rare that I ever feel at peace. for almost as long as I've been conscious, restlessness and scatterbrained is my 'normal'. I'm always searching for something. I think it's hard for me to say I usually feel together or one with my thoughts or my self, but this record brought me that sort of one-ness; like a feeling of 'okay'ness that I am not at all used to. it pushed me to explore a part of myself I don't usually get to examine and I'm grateful that it popped up in my recommended. I have everything I need for now
