Sonic the Hedgehog Tiger Electronic Trilogy

Ойындар

Tiger Electronic portable games were notorious for being poor quality, hard to play, difficult to see, and headache inducingly obnoxious when it came to sound. Aside from Nintendo franchises which would usually get LCD installments as part of the high quality Game & Watch line, it wasn't uncommon for most other series to have a Tiger Electronic counterpart of some sort. Mega Man, Castlevania, and as you'll see in this video, Sonic were all prime victims of these awful machines. Today we're going to briefly play the Tiger games based on each of the first 3 mainline Sonic the Hedgehog games. Get you ear plugs and barf bag ready!

@@TheGameDisplay I honestly think Sonic 3 is an addicting fun game and the bonus stages take a little getting used to jumping and going back and forth but it is pretty fun jump keep pressing jump (Better on original still works on re-release) and the enemies are challenging and the pellets that are shot are kinda hard to dodge 8/10

It's funny how us retro gamers get nostalgic even for bad games. Tiger handhelds are an interesting part of gaming history, whether people enjoyed them or not. As kids we played what ever was available to us, and didn't know any better. As a kid I played Pac-man on Atari 2600. It's considered to be a bad version, but to me at the time it was just Pac-man. And I enjoyed it.

50% speed, and you'll recognize all the music (maybe). 1 is Marble Zone. 2 is Multiplayer Emerald Hill. 3 is Angle Island. 3 is the hardest to recognize because it's taking a part from the middle of the song and looping it in a way that is initially really confusing.

Sonic 3 is the most complete translation of a Sonic game from console to cheapie handheld. The other two take the characters and concepts and make their own bastardized game, but S3 has six zones, the chaos emeralds, the gumball machine bonus round, bosses...Even Knuckles makes an appearance.

I know this is gonna shock people, but I actually like to imagine that some, if not, all of the Tiger Sonic games take place in an alternate timeline based on the early US Sonic bible where Sonic basically f**ks up and Dr. Eggman (who, in this timeline, much like his counterpart in the aforementioned bible, was once a friend of the heroic hedgehog until a lab accident involving the Chaos Emeralds mutated him into a genocidal warlord) wins, allowing the latter to completely conquer all of Mobius and rule the entire planet to his leisure. However, Sonic eventually forms a small, but mighty resistance group dedicated to dethroning Eggman and undoing all the damage he had done to their once peaceful planet to make up for his fatal mistake, and so, the events of the LCD version of Sonic 1 begin, in which Sonic himself infiltrates various Badnik factories in the hopes of loosening Dr. Eggman’s grip on the planet.

I have the Sonic 2 Tiger, but I liked it. When I would go on vacation road trips with my family when I was little, my brother and I had a bag of handhelds and tiger electronics. I have so many like bowling, monopoly, family feud. I can't remember them, but if you show them on your channel I might remember them. I have them tucked away in my closet. Tiger also released some table top arcades like the Simpsons, Sonic, Afterburner, and WWF Superstars. I haven't played those ones, but judging by KZread reviews, they seem more playable than the handhelds. What's funny is that those handhelds are coming back in stores. They are releasing remakes.

Great review. I didn’t realize there are Walmarts in Canada. The batteries you put in were “Great Value”. (I use Duracell myself.) The first song in Sonic 1 Tiger was from Marble Zone. The second Act from Genesis. What’s interesting about Sonic 2 is that it seems to be Oil Ocean Zone. A lost prototype Act from Sonic 2. Sonic 3 sounds to be a downgraded version of Mushroom Hill Zone. I have no idea what Sonic 2 is supposed to sound like here. XD These are indeed the nemesis of the Genesis! Haha

We know it was possible to make good LCD games: Nintendo used their LCD to draw levels instead of characters in games like Mario, Bomb Sweeper, Switch, etc. Made the games a lot deeper.
