“Their value is based on if they’re good” Silly Scott. He forgot game collectors don’t play games!
Tiger’s unwillingness to acknowledge the limitations of the technology they’re working with was unmatched. For the LCD adaptation of Atari’s Area 51 light gun arcade game, they actually made you have to use a laser pointer to shoot the aliens on a tiny screen with no backlight. I think there was also a Mortal Kombat LCD game that used cards like the e-Reader, the things Tiger’s game developers tried to do with these pieces of crap was unhinged.

Selective memory and the inability of our younger selves to comprehend the terrible state of the world around us at the time IMO are the reasons why many people think their childhood and whatever decade they grew up in are the best of times and not the worst of times.

Scott really bust out the drill for a joke, even in Scott’s Stash he wastes his life force to bring us a mild chuckle
The McDonald's ones are actually quite good. They understood that LCD games should be simple. And at £1.99 with a happy meal, was amazing value. They were all simple enough that you knew what to do straight away. They weren't exactly great, but really good for what they are.
Seeing scott's face in the glare instead of the game is the best part
I like how you can see more of Scott's face reflecting in the screen than the games itself

These were the most brutal gifts to receive as a video game loving child.
I once had a decent collection of these. Oddly enough the non-licensed ones were the most fun usually. My favorites were Pinball and Skeet Shoot.

I had the Power Rangers one growing up despite having a proper PC and Game Boy, and I think it was because, as a huge Power Rangers fan, I never had a proper PR game to play. I’d forgotten about it for the longest time until the AVGN episode on these things and it all came back. They’re interesting curios, but that’s about it, and seeing them sold as retro merch is hilarious given how charmingly lame they are.

There are some great LCD games out there. Mostly just puzzle games. I find they translate the best to this type of format. I have multiple Puyo Pop ones which work extremely well! I play on the go all the time and I have another Nintendo mini which had Tetris on it. Those are the perfect games to make into LCDs.

There are good LCD games, but the Tiger games were never in that category.
I remember seeing these in a GameStop and I thought it was a weird decision since they’re worthless nowadays. But they also remind me of the AVGN episode which is nice in a way. Even then, they still don’t have that charm to it compared to the Game & Watch, Digimon or anything similar

They feel made to be left in the packaging and added to a late-80s early-90s display of stuff
I really liked the handheld Virtua Cop game. It flipped open like a badge case and was played very much iirc.
I remember those. While the batteries lasted for a while, they were the most bare bones games a person could play. Keep ducking and hitting bad guys to score points, or dodge some enemies to get to the next level. These toys were what kids would play to tide themselves over during a long car ride (hopefully to a place which actually had _real_ games). I faintly remember other kids losing these at school all the time. Either that, or they would drop them, and the thing would break. Good times, good times.
Great video for fans of seeing a small portion of Scott's reflection in a calculator screen.
Did AVGN warn us for nothing?!

Tiger Handhelds would've been decent in the 1960s, but they were really pushing it when they barely limped into the new millenium.
I always kind of liked these as a kid an I imagine they were kind of like the fidget spinner of the 90s. So the thing to keep your thumbs busy line kind of rings true. I always wanted an LCD game that was keychain sized but actually fun to play for when you needed something to occupy yourself. Those keychain sized game and watches were great but eventaully some people made the Funkey S and that whole quest was finally over.
Hey scott, if you havent already could you do a video on the electronic manuals of the wii U? Some of them were amazing and the wii U was one of my childhood consoles (sad I know), and I remember being obssessed with sone of the games, and seeing some of the special manuals like the mario maker one that had level design tips, as well as secret videos you could only get by using codes from the mario maker art book that came with the collectors edition, and even fun quirky animations. Hell Paper mario colour splash even had really cool and kinda sad lore. Just think talking about some of these manuals would be cool as I kinda miss having manuals to look at.
Theses were my intro to gaming as a child. I even had the r-zone. I didn't have a console till i was about 8/9 but i only had mario 64. Now i have everything i could ever want. Don't cry for me Argentina.
I recently repaired my dad's LCD game from ~1980. "Circus" by Gakken. It has a Nintendo level of quality in the gameplay. It's interactive, difficult, and fun
7:44 hello no backlight. I didn’t miss you.
Honestly, I had a ton of fun with Tiger Electronics handhelds back in the day. They were my first video games I had a chance to own and play at home. My favorites were Baseball, TMNT, Mouse Maze and Mega Man 2. I will concede that the Tiger VR thing was absolutely horrible.

I had the Power Rangers one when I was a kid and I played that thing until the batteries ran dry several times over. I remember loving it so much. Until I got an LCD Space Invaders keychain game and then that became my obsession.
I had like two to four of these when I was a kid and I honestly had my fun with them. I would mostly buy the Sonic and Jurassic Park ones just for the novelty behind them. If they were to make more of the video game licensed ones I would get those TBH.
Thanks for making this video, this is the topic I voted for in the episode ballot
I'm not gonna lie. Part of me wants one of these for the nostalgia. The thing is, I honestly can't even remember which one I had as a kid.
I recommend getting a better power drill if you’re using that red and black one for anything on your house. I personally use Dewalt drills at my job (HVAC installer) but I’m switching to the Milwaukee brand of drills when I have the money
I found this video before my KZread notifications could even tell me.
LCD games were mid back then but sometimes it was a fun little distraction from time to time, especially if the batteries in your Gameboy died but you wanted to play something handheld lol
I had lots of these tiger LCD games. I used to have: Pinball Bowling Altered beast Pit fighter Golden axe
Tiger Electronics are in landfills everywhere.
I loved playing these on the bus on the way home from elementary school. Honestly they were a great distraction.
Tiger Electronic’s Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers LCD Game is an item that will be on someone’s 2023 business write-offs.
They’re like if Data Design made Game and Watch games, and I assume they keep selling for the same reason
I had a 2005 Technosource Teen Titans LCD game. I mostly played it when my parents grounded me and had forgotten about it.

How does scott keep making videos about nothing? Its amazing. This boy got talent.
I had that Sonic 3 one back in the 90s. Seeing my young nephew open a Christmas present last year and it's the same exact thing was like when Sarah Connor first saw the T-800 in T2
0:23 bro i remember getting some stuff like this from my McFonald Happy Meal back in the day. I still have some and they still work after like 15+ years
Seeing the rubber buttons bitten off the double dragon one was a real hit of nostalgia. I always chewed those off! Lol glad I wasn’t alone!
Nice Job!
I had the sonic 3 one and i like it, i hope i can get more through the series of the vault.
As a kid I had a Tiger Electronics Baseball from 1987 and it might have been the best they ever made. You had to time your button presses to hit the ball, and on defense move your players to catch hit balls.
I had the Batman Returns one as a kid and loved it. Wish I still had it. went to my basment and I hust found my mortal kombat one!
I need to get some now
They're kinda terrible, but.... the earlier ones, without all the licensing and gimmicks, like the generic Baseball and Football games, were actually halfway playable. I think i had Gauntlet also and it was okay. As a poor kid that was my video game for a time and I got some real enjoyment out of them.
Thrilling gameplay featuring warbling reflection of Scott's face.

I have a lot of fond memories with LCD games, primarily the ones that came in kids meals from mcdonalds or kfc, and my dad’s old popeye game & watch. But like stated in the video those games were incredibly simple and that’s where a lot of the appeal came from for me, like the two lcd games I had that I miss dearly was my spyro themed game from mcdonalds and my tennis game from KFC
I saw a pair of these at my nephews' house and was stunned (they're little kids). Was wondering where they came from.
Totally worth them back in the day, they looked nice and less stress when playing on the vacation/beach/school/you name it. They kept my Game Boy and my Game Gear safe :)
Nice collection
8:18 Never thought I'd hear Scott the Woz say "bro," bit of a jumpscare there.
I had one I loved the Tandy game Fire Away that was shaped like a spaceship wake one that was Tiger I think that was pinball.
Wait, they're back?!! When we think something is exctinct they appear again. I'm waiting to walk around and see a dinossaur, roaming around as it never left.
They need to bring back the original LCD GAME AND WATCH SERIES.
Nostalgia brings everything back eventually, no matter if it's good or bad.
I love how you can see how confused Scott is in the reflection
I’ve got some of these on my channel. For the mad collector no doubt
Finally, the definitive version of Sonic 3!
IMHO Zelda Game&Watch (the original one with 2 screens) is the closest LCD games ever got to be like a console game. 8 dungeons (although really it's just 4, but with different speeds), items, alternate routes, boss battles... Link even threw knives when his life was maxed out. It was pushing the limits of what an LCD game could do
@toypop96
10 ай бұрын
Also one of only two (if my memory serves me correct) Game & Watches you can actually beat, the other being Climber I think.
@ValleDelSergio
10 ай бұрын
@@toypop96 not only that, you could loop with faster speed everytime and you could go beyond 99999 points (a sword appeared above the health if you managed to do that). It would get to a point where enemies and projectiles moved so fast the LCD refresh couldn't keep up with the speed and you just couldn't seen what was moving and had to play by sound.
I actually enjoyed playing these when I was a kid. I had Jurassic Park and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers & I still have them. Last year I got X-MEN plus I also had some that wasn't made from Tiger Electronics
I got so many of these from my parents. I never had the heart to tell them the games were garbage. They did finally get me a GBC when I was in middle school, finally some good games!

oh my gosh i forgot about these they look so cool doesn't mean they don't suck though
hilarious video
I would question anyone who has genuine nostalgia for these
My LCD handheld experience was the Pro 200. Literally had a calculator built into it. It was actually pretty fun at the time. Of course without a Gameboy my standards were lower.
the sonic 3 one screams, to me, that it was supposed to be based on the special stages (based on the background and the weird pipes at the top that could've been a map?) but they had to change the gameplay because it wasn't working out or something
I used to love trying to figure these games out. I had the Street Fighter II as a kid and we had a really bad snow storm that knocked power out for over 24 hours. So all I had to play was SFII, by the end of the outage I understood everything about the game.
Scott is gonna take us back to the past 🤯
When i was a little kid my grandma had the beauty and the beast tiger game. It was horrible yet i played it over and over. Also seeing that power rangers one unlocked a forgotten memory.
Very nice
These were so fun to collect, even if they weren't fun to play.
I found the Jurassic Park one at a Ross, and i got it for my birthday. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wants to do more than the hardware can allow. You have to make it to the end of the level while avoiding dinos and obstacles, and you do that for 4 levels until you get to the fuse box. I made it to level 4, but I lost my last life there. I really wish these things were backlit, and some sprites like to hide in the corners. I think Game and Watch was more memorable because thye kept things more simple and easy to understand.
I didn't get the official Tiger electronics ones as a kid I got that one that folded open and had calculator buttons and said it had something like 1000 games in it. I remember it looking like a shoe
I dunno man. As a SNES kid, Sonic on Tiger Electronics was my only Sonic game. I have fond memories of it.
I had a talking baseball one that was fun
I dont think you get it. There not the best, but when your in a car with the family for hours, before everyone had smartphones, man it was pretty sweet.
I had the sonic 3 and power rangers one growing up. Plus a few more
I had the Xmen handheld and the batman watch when i was a kid.
I had a bunch of these in the early 1990s. I remember these being fun to have. Sure they were simple, but we were used to using our imaginations back then to make these simple games come to life.
