The 2nd half is the better of the two games in my opinion, but I think the infamous reception of the first episode was too difficult to turn around. It's a shame as I feel these games are better than most people give them credit for, providing they don't look at them as a sequel to the Mega Drive/Genesis games. The project I think needed to stay as a mobile game.

I'd say White Park is a mixture of Ice Cap & Carnival Night Zone from Sonic 3. Plus Oil Desert has some Sandopolis Zone vibes to it.

Man, this game would’ve been good if they made physics a little better, not ripping off zones in obvious ways, and actually made it a continuation with more new ideas. Or better yet, just call it Sonic the Portable for phones and tablets only.

The games aren't bad at all. What was catastrophic to the game's reception was Sega's decision to name it 'Sonic 4' If it had stayed as 'Sonic the Portable' and stayed intended as a mobile release, I think it would have been a lot better received as people wouldn't have hit out at the wildly different physics compared to the Genesis games, which this game is claiming it's a sequel to. A sequel is supposed to take everything from the previous installment and build upon the formula that initially made it successful.

Jun Senoue gets a hard time but I do like his music despite the monotonous use of the Genesis sounds. The man has always wanted more creative freedom with the Sonic soundtrack he has been involved with over the years.

It's part of Sonic's history and legacy whether people accept it or not. I honestly don't think it's a bad game. The thing that made it 'bad' was that it labelled itself as a mainline Sonic game and as the sequel to Sonic 3, and this plays nothing like the games that came before it with its momentum based speed.

Apparently Christian Whitehead when he was working for the Australian Sega Development group was offered the project (Episode 3). He refused as he said the previous two episodes have already strayed from the classic formula too much. This was back in 2015 and went in to develop Mania to release in 2017. And we all know how that game was received!

Sonic 4 Episode 2 follows Sonic 2 even more closely. The inclusion of Tails, the special stages that are very similar to Sonic 2, Sylvanian Castle which is similar to Aquatic Ruin, Sky Fortress which is very similar to Wing Fortress, the Sky Chase section which is similar to Sonic 2 and also of course the Death Egg, which is introduced in Sonic 2. So yes, Episode 2 is a LOT more like Sonic 2 than Episode 1.

Other than being able to turn into Super Sonic, the only thing that changes is the ending of Sonic 4 Episode 1 where you are treated to a 2 second teaser of Metal Sonic. And that's it.

@AverageViewer972 That's not a bad idea! Doesn't apply to the bosses but not destroying the badniks is certainly possible on Sonic 1, 2, CD and 3 and Knuckles. Sonic 4 though.....I don't think it can be done as you need to homing attack a path of enemies in order to get over certain gaps. I don't believe it's possible in that game.

I know but there's very little I can do about that now the video has been uploaded. You can cut parts of a video but you can't add stuff to it. On Metal Sonic's episode, Mad Gear Act 1 is there.
