I loved the first boss of Episode 2 for one reason; it trolls the player. Episode 1's bosses were just copies of bosses from Sonic 1-3 and CD, with very minor additions. Episode 2's first boss started off as another clone, but then tricked the player with an original concept. Sometimes, people don't give SEGA enough credit.

I feel like the ep1 bosses were used by eggman as a diversion for sonic so he could finish building the ep2 bosses/zones and prepare to revive metal Sonic. The ep1 bosses were easier on purpose so sonic would let his guard down and not expect the newer creations

O no! Anyway.

I like Sonic 4. The Episode 1 boss theme is whimsical, as if Eggman were a laughingstock. I like how the Pinch themes show that things are getting serious just by making the original theme faster, and the graphics are nice. Episode 1's graphics go off a bit weird on me though. I like how things get silly like with Flying Eggman's occasional giant bomb fitting in such a small container, as well as the Death Egg Robot malfunctioning with its skips and the arm flying up. Plus, Episode 2 tricks you into thinking bosses were going to be repeated before the Egg Serpentleaf comes in. Actually, Episode 2 kinda overdoes it with Metal Sonic.

If people want to pretend Sonic 4 never happened, or that Mania is the "true" Sonic 4, that's all fine and good, but you can't change history. This game exists and you all didn't enjoy it, that's the fact of the matter and it can't be changed. The franchise isn't going to get any better just because you pretend the hard times didn't happen, so just get over it and move on.

If Metal Sonic attacked you during the race it would probably make for a better boss, but it's interesting to me. He's spent the whole game trying to kill Sonic with electric powers, laser cannons, spirit bombs, and every time he ends up defeated. But at the final stretch, he decides to simply invite Sonic to a race. No more powers, no more tricks. He wants to use his own strengths to prove he's the superior hedgehog. But in the end, Metal doesn't get that chance. Because Tails is there, the roles have switched from Sonic CD. Now Sonic is the cheater. With his only attempt at a fair match stolen from him, Metal Sonic begins to develop a deep hatred for his rival. This is no longer a matter of carrying out Eggman's order. This is personal.

You also get emotions in your first fight in his last stage, when he glows purple and starts bounces around wildely, instead of keeping his distances, setting up traps or attacking the ground rythmactly. You also get emotions in the metal Carrier boss fight, when the carrier is throwing missles, metal launches them in a somewhat pattern, up, down , up , down, like that.... but in the final volley he desperately attacks in one pattern for longer, so like, up, up , up , up , down , down , down , down, I feel like he knows it's over or he's getting desperate.

Guys, Sonic and Mario can be friends.Lets not fight it longer.We can change this peacefully.

You know people, just because Mania exists doesn't make Sonic 4 a bad game. Sure Mania is superior to Sonic 4 in almost every way, but how the hell does it make Sonic 4 objectively bad? Me and my brother personally liked Sonic 4 and I had no idea people didn't like it. I remember hearing bad things about it even before Mania existed because it "wasn't a true classic Sonic game" and the fact they "used the modern, green eyed Sonic." Perhaps maybe the complaining was probably what lead to Generations and later Mania so the 2D Sonic fans could be happy.

Indirectly related for sure. - Mania happened after S4 so we have to assume Mania exists in it's current form with consideration for; if not complete awareness in spite of Sonic 4's existence. I think it's safe to say even if the Mania pitch still happened, it would have potentially different expectations surrounding it without Sonic 4. Eg. Choice of theming and even familiar boss patterns mighta turned out entirely different if S4 hadn't borrowed certain elements first.

This looks like a REALLY well made CD-I game!

The problem with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was not that Dimps made it. Dimps did the Sonic Advance trilogy and those were great games. The problem is that it tried way too hard to be classic. It kept rehashing zones from Sonic 1 and 2 (not 3 for some reason which is pretty sad) and changing them a bit to create "new" zones. It tried to play safe with the classic fandom and it failed to do so correctly. Fast forward to Sonic Mania. The reason Sonic Mania is doing well is because, unlike Sonic 4, it tried to do something new and exciting for the classic games. I know this because from what I've seen, the majority of the hype for Sonic Mania was all for the new zones while most of the disappointment came from the fact that most of the zones in Sonic Mania were reused from previous titles rather than new. If they didn't reuse any zones, I'm willing to bet the fans would actually put it onto an even higher pedestal than they already are. Another two reasons Sonic 4 gets hate is because they used modern character designs and they "didn't get the physics correct", but those are mostly petty arguments and nostalgia blindness, which unfortunately blend into Sonic Mania's hype. While I do get that Sonic's physics and what made it fun definitely do rely on the build up of speed, which Sonic 4 didn't have, I do feel like people are shaming it too far under for that one reason and that it's not as big a deal as they make it out to be. If anything, the best argument as to why Sonic 4 wasn't that great is because they tried too hard to be classic and ended up deciding not to try new things, which, in the end flopped it.

Egg scrap mech was epic as hell when i was a kid idk why people didnt enjoy this game Honestly gunna say this it was my first sonic game too

Dang looking back at this game makes me think it could’ve been a lot better

First boss of the second episode siked you out by making you think it was gonna be a boss remaster

Now sonic 4 episode 2 has been free and we can play as metal sonic.

Nice vid! Mostly watching to get better at ep 2 for that super sonic boss cheevo. Can beat death egg robo in ep 1 without damage but STILL cant get that super sonic kill on final boss in ep 2. XD

Man I liked how they made a mixture of Sonic CD and Sonic 2 with Episode 2, being that there the best classic game with mania and EPISODE 2 included

As a newcomer to the series i enjoyed Sonic 4 even after 100% completing the other 2d Sonic games.

Sonic the hedgehog 4 episode 1 & 2 where great but the finale boss in episode 1 was literally a disaster you have to beat the death egg robot 30 times or more than that And the finale boss in episode 2 was hard to Eggman just made a circle around sonic and tails!

the only good thing about sonic 4 episode 2 is the good metal sonic music 15:59

during the fight at about 25:30, the sound played for the puff of whatever is happening to the missiles is the same as the sound for shooting eco in jak and daxter
