One interesting thing about both of knuckles themes is that S3 is more like knuckles style in SA2 while S&K suits his tribal heritage in SA1.

It’s crazy...whenever I’m in the mood for Sonic 3 I automatically just play 3&K so I haven’t heard some of these original Sonic 3 tunes in YEARS. I would still recommend playing 3&K for the full experience as-let’s face it-it is the TRUE Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Personally I play 3k via Sonic 3 Complete, so much customization, including music choices bewteen 3 and S&Ks themes. Ive heard Sonic 3 AIR is the definitive experience but i prefer 3C

Always found it interesting that if you let the drowning music start to play during the hydrocity boss and then jump out of the water in vanilla Sonic 3 the theme will change to S&K’s

@@Astoopidmf I suspect both of them were reasons. Michael Jackson and SEGA decided it would be mutually beneficial for him to leave the project. Michael Jackson considered the _Sonic 3_ music that evidently was composed by him to be defaced versions of his music due to the limits of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive's sound chip. SEGA likely did not want their game to be associated with the controversy around Michael Jackson at the time. I know I'm four months late.

i love the fact that knuckles theme in sonic 3 is purely a drum track. helps emphasize that knuckles’ character traits are more about strength and power without having visually demonstrate it every time we see him

Literally all Sonic 3 for me. Would say as far as the invincibility themes go, S3 fits better for super sonic because of the tempo, but for standard invincibility Sonic & Knuckles is better IMO.

everything expect maybe continue and ending is better on s&k. invincibility in sonic 3 feels more like a rush of power while s&k's feels like your actually invincible

The annoying invincibility music in Sonic 3 is the same as Super Sonic if I remember correctly. I would WAY prefer the S&K invincibility music as it's just a remix of the main theme.

I have to say I think I prefer the Sonic & Knuckles themes for everything. Aside from the themes being a bit more dynamic, they sound more in line with the music of Sonic 1 & 2 (made by a different composer, Masato Nakamura). I always felt like the music of Sonic 3 was following more the trend of the Michael Jackson phenomenon started with MOONWALKER (the "C'mon" and "Whoos" always felt distracting). Yes I'm aware MJ was tapped to work on the music for Sonic 3, and his DANGEROUS collaborator Brad Buxer I believe did a lot of work for the score.

My preferences: Title- S&K This one sticks with me more than S3's, specially the opening note Idk if thats controversial lol would love to see what others think Knuckles theme- S3 is better imo. The S&K one feels a bit odd. Idk why tho. Invincibility- Both. S&k got that "crunchy" bassline! Laid back. And S3's got frantic enegy. Extra 1up- S3. Awesome! Thats so much better. Expected it when playing s&k, was dissatisfied lol. Sidenote: looks like invincibility + 1ups matches to titles on both games Act 1Boss- S3. So chill! S&k's is stressful Continue- Both? Suprised to hear s3's. I heard the slow version first. Maybe changed for fitting continue screen?? Idk lol Ending-i have an opnion lol. They're both good in their own ways. But really tough call

I'm so glad you made this video! I recall at one point I was wondering why I remembered the continue theme both as a fast version and a shower version and didn't know which one was accurate. Turns out I wasn't going crazy and both are actually real! Lol

My preferences: Title: S3 This one is just bright, it feels nice and happy. I really love it and it’s my favorite title screen in the sonic franchise besides sonic cd. Knuckles: S&K This just sounds better than S3. I like S3 but S&K beats it because it suits the mood more. Invincibility: S&K S3 is pretty annoying. Even it plays when you’re super sonic. So I like S&K better. It’s not so annoying. Extra Life: S3 Just sounds nice, and ive heard S&K extra life sound effects too much. Mini Boss: S3 So catchy, I do like S&K. But you can’t beat S3 Mini boss music. Continue: S&K Super catchy although they’re both the same. Ending: S3 Very happy and sounds like a great ending!

The continue theme from S&K may be the same as the one from S3, but it's slightly slower compared to the latter.

Sonic 3 overall has the better choices but I think my breakdown would be: Titles - Sonic 3 Knuckles - Sonic 3 Invincibility - Sonic 3 Extra Life - S&K Act 1 Boss - Sonic 3 Continue - Either Ending - S&K (barely)

Say what you will about the proto tracks, but I'm glad the Sonic 3 title and 1up jingle was used for Origins. Hearing that title theme in the Sonic Origins opening video was perfection.

I prefer the funkiness of the S3 Knuckles theme but no doubt the S&K theme is way more iconic.

I'm so used to both it's hard to decide. The music in S3 is more to my taste but I love that Knuckles is on the main screen in S&K. Both are great and I just see them together as "S3&K" 😊

Better Version: Title - s3 Knuckles - s3 Invincibility - s3 Extra Life - S&K Act 1 Boss - S&K Continue - S&K Ending - s3

POV: you got this randomly recommended in 2022

there are some things that cannot be forgotten

I prefer all S3 versions, except Continue, the S&K version of Continue just feels right.

S3 sounds more like the music that fits Sonic more, while 3&K sounds like music thats slightly more fitting to Knuckles

Most of the themes in Sonic & knuckles is used in Sonic 3 & knuckles (both games combined) and Sonic 3 themes going unused (not really unused completely) in the combined version of the game.

Sonic and Knuckles’ is slower

I wonder if Michael Jackson and Brad Buxer has to do with both alternative soundtrack between Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. Heck, the Act 1 boss of Sonic 3 has Michael’s signature “whoo” in there. Honestly the history of soundtrack between these two games is quite mysterious to me.

@@anthonycassimiro2295 I get you :) What I'm trying to say is that I wonder if Michael Jackson's involvement with the Sonic 3 portion of the soundtrack is the reason why Sonic and Knuckle's soundtrack change. There's probably a license issue going on. Sorry I didn't word it right :) It's just weird that two games meant to be one the same got the soundtrack change for the most part in Sonic and Knuckles, that's why I always wondered if Michael and Brad Buxer has to do with it. Even the Sonic 3 credits music didn't make it into Sonic and Knuckles. And the Sonic 3 credits theme is heavily made by Brad Buxer and Michael Jackson.

I will always find something very eerie about the Blue Spheres screen, or the “NO WAY! NO WAY?”

I didn’t realize just how much megaman esque the act 1 boss theme in s&k

The title, invincibility, super, and extra life were better in s&k whereas the drum beat of knuckles theme, and ending theme and song were better in sonic 3. Although the ending is very close because i love them both

sonic 3 for the win i literally love sonic 3 alot more than s&k

Which would you prefer? Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles Act 1 boss? For me, I would choose Sonic & Knuckles.

The S3 tunes are superior to me, I usually play s3 complete with those ones. I do enjoy both however, s3 is much funkier and more fun, whereas s&k conveys Knuckles' tribal heritage and makes the bosses seem more threatening. S3 also has a unique ending theme as the credits roll, it's awesome.

*REMEMBER:* The audio in sonic three and knuckles is the same audio you’ll hear in sonic and knuckles

S3 continue: "yo can you PRESS START, WE KINDA HAVE TO WIN THIS" S&K continue: "A true warrior knows when it is time to stop and relax, is your time now young one?"

Continue song is slower in Sonic and Knuckles

sonic 3 gives you a vibe of knuckles being a troll and sonic & knuckles just makes him look nice

I played Sonic 3 my whole life, so I got used to the sounds of Sonic 3 instead of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Unless you made a seperate video about it, you forgot the end credits songs.

It's the tempo. On S&K, the song plays slightly slower.

My preferences: All S3, but S&K miniboss theme for Master Emerald stealing S3 Credits theme instead of Sky Sanctuary in ending

2:21 is only more slower

My favorite: S3 Act 1 boss

Haven't heard the Sonic 3 continue music in forever - for 2 reasons: 1. I always play S3&K these days 2. I've never died 😎

the title screen is a stage beginner to be able to get discovered.

The only surprise foe me was I didn't know that the continue music was slightly changed.
