On my wishlist of things I wished happened in this movie: More S🌀NIC music such as boss level music when Death Egg robot was on screen (even if it was a brief heavy metal rendition); Super S🌀NIC music or twinkles sound fx AND at least 1 S🌀NIC spindash attack hit at the Death Egg Robot to have rattled Robotnik out of place. PLUS Lots more Temple (Labyrinth Zone/ gaming style scenes) would have been great. Loved this movie and this fantastic Movie Spoiler Review. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🤩👌

I also think he did Chaos Blast in the movie! In that moment with Tails in the Death Egg Robot, I think Eggman did a chaos blast.

I loved Colleen O'Shaughnessy's performance as Tails!! She was outstanding! Tails is just so adorable and huggable, my heart melts every time he's on screen!

52:05 There was drowning music in the movie! Between the scenes of Knuckles swimming up to the surface first before saving sonic and Sonic trying to jump/swim to get to Knuckles, their were a few seconds of the faint drowning music, just listen closely! It's also a shame that it the music wasn't really noticable at first...

I LOVED IT

This movie was an experience man. Every action scene was the best I have seen not only in a video game movie, but possibly a movie period. Especially that final battle and post credit scene, that had me and my brother holding back our screams. If you haven’t seen the movie yet seriously go watch it, cause this is THE standard for video game movies period.

This is literally the Sonic Movie we all love and wanted for so long and seeing finally became a reality in the big screen is like a dream come true. The characters, references and Easter Eggs from past games is truly remarkable. True props to the movie production and staff for doing an incredible job for the 2nd movie. Seriously, I love when movies like this listen to feedback a lot

No offense, and I respect your opinion and all, but this is the Sonic movie you wanted for years? Not saying the movie is bad, but the game cinematics (Unleashed as a prime example), comics, and even Sonic X feels more in line with the ideal Sonic movie universe.

You tend to forget tha scene when Sonic was riding the missile back to Eggman’s mech like he did it in Sonic OVA

So nice when diabolical evil lives up to the hype....love that line....

26:00 They stayed in the Cabin because there was a storm outside, and Tails’ Device couldn’t pick up a good signal to find where in Siberia they needed to go. So even if Sonic did manage to get the map himself, they still needed to stay there, and if they didn’t find a way to convince the people to let them stay, the people would’ve thrown them out into the cold. So they danced to stay in the Cabin.

In the first movie, Sonic got to use his set of skills to win the barfight. Tails got to use his set of skills to help them win the dance off using his handheld to create the "back up dancers."

This movie was way better than the first and was an absolute blast to watch. An actual sonic film and one for the fans. Sure people who doesn't know sonic might not get some of these but this was still a good film regardless. I can't wait for the future of sonic movie with Shadow and the Knuckles spin off. 10/10 film for me. And speaking of Shadow, let's see how Sonic movie 3 tops this one

IKR! That's exactly what I've been saying. Uptown Funk didnt suit it at all. Plus I would have loved if they made it clearer how they won the dance off such as having their competitor say "They're just too fast' before passing out or something.

Loved this movie, and I can't wait to get the steelbook blu-ray!

Knuckles catching Sonic off guard and punching Sonic when they meet each other is possibly one of 2 references to Knuckles punch Sonic off guard at the beginning of S3&K. The other, obviously, is Knuckles punching “super” Robotnik and making the emerald pop out like how he knocks the super out of Sonic to take the emeralds that comes flying out.

Cybrid's point about the characters wrapped in Loneliness all finding each other in the end was a beautiful way to wrap up. PS-The Spolier Warming really helps in this cold weather.

Can we talk about THAT CREDITS SEQUENCE was freaking awesome!

This must be a great sequel and the cast like colleen, ben, idris, james, tika, jim carrey and everyone did a amazing job so I can't wait to see sonic movie 2 because I'm a true sonic fan!

nice review. For what you said at 52:14 about no drowning music, on my 2nd viewing, I recognize they did the first 2 seconds of it when Knuckles was swimming up & Sonic was trying to leave, but that was it. With Shadow included, I feel if they show Maria's fate, I want it to play a big role in 3.

Sam, I'm so sorry that you had to get spoiled about the mid credit scene two weeks at advance before seeing the movie on Twitter. This was why I took a hiatus from my socials before the date got closer because I knew that would happen if I stayed around for too long. Either way, I'm happy that you guys had fun with this movie! I definitely enjoyed myself along with my buddies when we got to see the movie last Saturday and it was a blast. I'm looking forward to Sonic movie 3 when that comes out ^^

1:11:13 I finally watched it and I saw that it was Shadow. I was hyped but I thought that we would have been getting metal sonic, cause Dr Eggman still has the quill, I thought he would use the power to create metal sonic. I'm not mad over shadow, Id take either tbh, I really enjoyed this film, and can't wait to see where they take this version of sonic and his friends.

Yeah the Sonic being the guardian of the master emerald made some sense to me. I've always seen Sonic as the guardian of the Chaos Emeralds. I don't know why I thought that. But in the movie the chaos emeralds are the master emerald, so Sonic taking Knuckles job works in this new canon.

I’ve thought the same, there was even a scene in Sonic Rush where Knuckles thought Blaze was holding chaos emeralds and advised her to give them to Sonic

Sonic was a big part of my childhood and it warmed my heart seeing kids at the theater with their sonic plushies and geeking out with other kids about their favorite characters and how excited they are to see the sequel. Love the review btw, can't wait to see what paramount does with the character and his story in sonic 3 😁 💙

The movie was all that I've been wishing for in a Sonic Movie. It's phenomenal that we live in a timeline where something like this would be a reality. It's so good to see the blue blur and the whole gang on the big screen!

When tails got knocked out of the sky the entire cinema went “NOO TAILSS” in my cinema XD It was quite funny though-

My thoughts about the whole Eggman using electricity thing is that, the whole time he was gone, he was somewhat consuming some of Sonic's electrical power through the quill, so he probably gained those abilities through that.

I think the movies moreso imply that the Master Emerald when powered can be utilized by anyone with sentience. Chaos emeralds might be more selective, due to not being encased in what is effectively a conduit controller.

Yeah but he had the electrical abilities before even knowing about the emerald, which is why I think that his consuming Sonic’s electrical powers through the quill, gave him those abilities.

The drowning music does play for a quick second when sonics drowning. It's when he's looking up at knuckles swimming away. It's extremely subtle and it's only for a split second

30:40 Im so glad movies as of late have been either avoiding that trope or using it sparingly, like Turning Red and The Mitchells didnt harp on it at all. It's like theyre obligated to do it but now writers are like "Ugh okay fine we'll just edit into the google doc real quick before sending it to the animators."

Here is my idea for a 3rd movie when it comes out. Agent Stone breaks into a GUN base after overhearing the commander bring up Project Shadow (Like Eggman breaking into Prison Island in SA2). He succeeds, and Shadow helps him escape by making short work of the guards around. The Master Emerald is in the hands of Sonic and friends, kept safe by Knuckles (fulfilling a guardian role somewhat, being able to shrink it like SA2). Agent Stone gets Shadow to team up with him for the majority of the film, as he promises to find details about Shadow's past (like in Shadow The Hedgehog, except now he only knows that he wants to destroy humanity, like SA2). However, Stone wants to get a hold of the Master Emerald to find Robotnik, and wanted to use Shadow to do it (like how Robotnik uses Knuckles to find the Master Emerald in this movie). The main bulk of the film is Sonic Vs Shadow (like Knuckles in this movie), but behind the scenes, Agent Stone is just analysing data to make a Metal Sonic,which will be unleashed midway through the movie. During the downtime between the introduction to Metal and the final battle, Stone and Metal raid the base Shadow was kept in at the beginning to find a special resource to fully power Metal (the quill that Robotnik has throughout both movies, quarantined by GUN). Shadow pursues the two of them and Team Sonic follow after him. This part ending with the baddies getting away and Shadow finding out about his past (revealing that he was brainwashed by Gerald Robotnik into thinking that he was supposed to destroy humanity, and then remembering that Maria wanted him to protect humanity, like SA2) , then deciding to team up with the heroes. Then the finale is Sonic and Shadow teaming up to take out the fully powered robotic doppelganger, maybe a dual super transformation. Mid Credit scene shows a night city, and then after a flash of cyan light, a mysterious figure lands on top of a building, saying the words, "So this is the past. If the coordinates I was given were correct, he should be here. Now, to save the future!" revealing Silver near the end of the dialogue. He will be the focus in Sonic 4.

It's funny that Sonic earlier said something like"Im gonna open that robot as a can of chilli" and he just cut out the head Robotnik's Mecha like a can when he turned Super

I'm taking a wild guess here. But unless he's going to live on his own, I think they're setting up the potential for Rachel and her husband to be a sort of "home" for Shadow the hedgehog in the future. Her future husband is a seemingly high ranking G.U.N. agent with close ties to Sonic's family, he's as close as they can get to having a handler for Shadow that has experience with Sonic (He'll essentially be Sonic's uncle). I think her husband might end up in a higher position than he is now and that lead to him being the main one that Shadow has contact with. A Shadow and Rachel bonding scene would make my day, plus, it makes the wedding scene less out of place at the same time (even though I love it, I thought Rachel was hilarious).

In our theater we had the screen go black at the best part in the movie which was like towards the ending, and the whole audience went crazy. Fortunately they rewinded it and gave everyone re-admit tickets. What an experience that was lol

This movie blew me away. I'm a HUGE Sonic fan (and have loved your channel for years Sam 🙂) I could talk about so much as I'm still on a high but by some miracle, I didn't get the Super Sonic inclusion spoiled. I was in disbelief and I very nearly teared up, I was so happy AND they did it justice. I couldn't be happier, it was SO badass.

51:45 remeber in the games Tikal says that the emeralds turn thoughts into power. Robotnik has negative thoughts about world dominating power so he turns into this electric green monster just like the echidna in the flashback. But when sonic goes super its to protect his family and the world so hes golden and bright like holy kinda light a very possitive energy. Its really cool to be honest. I love this new take on the lore.

26:16 the reason why they didn't hiatal out of there after they gotten the map was because the winter storm was still present so its best for them to stay in the shack for the time being until the storm subsided

This was a fun, action packed movie. The ending has me excited and will be anticipating the introduction of Shadow.

Sam you forgot the scene where Sonic shouted out Tails real name, which is something I like that, they didn’t miss on putting that out there. And I think my favorite reference in the movie was, when they reference labyrinth zone and my favorite scene would be when the three of them were doing that pose from Sonic Hero’s. And I know that Knuckles had all the shine in the movie, but can we also take this moment and appreciate the people who made the story perspective of how Sonic and Tails got their own building bonding scene for the both of them. And its something that sometimes the games don’t establish a lot of the relationship of these two and also I Know Knuckles was like mostly the star of this film, but don’t forget that Tails is also supposedly should been more of a star of this film too, because It’s SONIC 2 and you got what EMERALD HILL playing in the background, but I do love me some knuckles scene too!! BUT over and all, this movie was amazing and was everything that I wanted to ask for being a Sonic, even though I have never played Sonic Hero’s or 006. But, I did quite catch the little references throughout the movie, my only thing I will just say is, I wish they could told more and maybe adding a flashback for Tails when he was telling Sonic all about his past and all because I just felt like that was also missing just so the audience can understand more of Tails on what he’s been though and why he acts like that to Sonic and not just people saying” oh well that’s not creepy at ll” because maybe it could’ve connected more of Tails own perspective on how and why he is like that, and really another part I wished they could’ve done more with Tails is, just for him to have a least one moment where Tails makes fun of Robotnik or outsmarting him in his own game, so yeah those were all my positive thoughts over the film and what could’ve been executed better from story perspective writing, but over and all. IT WAS REALLY FUN AND AWSOME TO REWATCH WHICH I CAN’T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I WAS LIKE JUMPING ON MY SEAT DUING THE SCENE WITH YOU KNOW WHO AND WHAT TOWARDS THE END THAT IT JUST BUMPS ME UP FOR THE NEXT UPCOMING FILM, MAN WHAT A YEAR FOR ALL SONIC FANS !!🥰💙💙💙

Honestly, this was an absolute blast to watch as a film. I smiled the whole time, I laughed, nearly cried twice, and just… this movie is such a fun time. Not just for sonic fans but anyone. I’m so thankful nothing was spoiled for me this time. Seeing the ending edits.. man that moment.. I already wish I could relive that. It’s still hard to believe I got to see two awesome sonic movies. That’s just an amazing thing for me and my little brother. I can’t wait for the 3rd- that alone will be huge

A reference you guys might have missed is when Super Sonic taps the death egg robot with his foot to finish it off, it's a reference to the opening scene of Sonic 06. ... Not that I blame you if you did miss it, as people tend to just ignore that game, lol.

What I want for the next batch of Sonic films, is more Sonic related music from the games. Especially some music from Crush 40. The next movie especially has to have Crush 40 on the soundtrack.

Yeah, I REALLY want just rock music, if not Crush 40. The music is such a huge part of Sonic, and feel like the movies are doing a big disservice by not including the iconic music this series is known for.

Also, the translator had significant translating issues, which is another cool callback to Sonic Colors. That's one of my favorite references! (I presume Tails was trying to translate Russian into English, considering that he and Sonic were in Siberia!)

This movie was so great, loved watching it togther with my friends on the big screen!

I have to now wait until saturday to be able to watch the movie and then watch this! Can’t wait to watch the review!

My ONE complaint with the movie is that Tails needed more development. Perhaps they could've used the whole "Only Sonic the Hedgehog [blank]" and evolved it into someone telling him to stop focusing on what Sonic can do and instead think "what can Miles Tails Prower do?". Hell I think it would've been effective enough to pair Tails with Rachael and Maddie when GUN take in Sonic and Tom, instead of having him unconscious for a good 15 minutes

Being a Knuckles fan since his debut in Sonic 3, I gotta say this interpretation of him is definitely my favorite! I'm excited for movie 3 like yall. But I think I'm more excited for his series. Like maybe they could introduce more friends and Rivals to him, from Chaotix, Rouge, maybe Mecha Sonic, the Babylon Rogues!

As a Sonic fan of 14 years who hasn't been very happy since 2011, this movie was INCREDIBLE. Hundreds of tiny references and nuances everywhere, all the while being a fantastic movie itself. I haven't watched the entire video yet so I don't know if you've touched on that, but the scene where Knuckles knocked the emerald(s) out of Eggman gave me a HUGE S3&K smile because I immediately knew it was a direct reference to Knuckles' unique-yet-unexplained "ability" (to knock the emeralds out of someone). The dialogues and conversations were genuinely heartfelt and well-written for a movie aimed at children, the voice acting was superb, the final fight looked G O R G E O U S (there are some scenes where the CGI absolutely sucked, that wedding scene where the woman-whose-name-I-don't-remember throws a boomerang had some of the worst CG I've ever seen, but it's just 3-4 scenes in the whole movie so it's okay). I am very, very pleased. So hyped to see what they do to my boy in the 3rd one. I hope they don't give him the Boom Shadow treatment.

When super sonic knock the death egg robot to fall with his leg it reminds me of sonic 06 from first cgi cutscene

Sonic riding the missile redirecting the missile into the giant robot gave me Sonic OVA vibes.

1:01:41 - Not only does Knuckles punch the Master Emerald straight out of Dr. Eggman, but he also does it similarly to the Owls _(against an empowered echidna tribesman)_ during the history scene. In other words, it was a cool callback to an earlier scene in the movie, albeit a semi-subtle callback/reference. Speaking of callbacks, like how Tom tells Sonic that "the moment chooses you," Sonic shares this message with Knuckles. As I did with the first movie (Sonic 1), I appreciate the writer's consistency, and how it never leaves key details behind as the narrative progresses. My mom and I loved the wedding segment; and although it slightly changed the pace, it was a welcomed, enjoyable pace change. Going into Jovi's comment about its appeal to adults, it seems like the wedding scene is my mom's favorite moment of the entire movie! Overall, I greatly enjoyed this film, loving it even more than the first! At the time of writing, I watched Sonic 2 yesterday; I strongly believe that this is the best movie I've ever seen yet! Since I gave the original a 9/10, I must give this one either a 9.75/10 (to leave space for Sonic 3's eventual score) or 10/10, but I'll go with the latter 10/10 (after all, Sonic 3 will likely be in a higher league of its own)! And finally, regarding Sonic 3, there are no limits to how wonderful, how glorious these new stories will become. I will continue to say this throughout 2022, wholeheartedly: *_"Great things await us."_* EDIT: Yes, I enjoyed Sonic 2 more than the first Lego Movie, undoubtedly so.

Since they'll be using shadow for the 3rd movie they'll probably use silver for the 4th movie cause he's the next main character after shadow which I would really like because I loved silver's character they just put him in a bad game.

I think that in the wedding scene if instead of just being Rachel and Maddie, it would have been even better id it was Rachel, Maddie AND Tails

The movie was awesome! Well, not perfect from a critical standpoint, but pretty much what most of the fanbase could have asked for (besides some small complaints like not using enough of existing music). Although, I have to admit it also managed to deepen one hole inside me, because of how great it was. The realization that we didn't get a good plot, proper character portrayal/development and good character interactions in games over last decade or more just hits even harder with this one. I don't understand why there can't be more of Tails being Sonic's number one sidekick and best pal, Knuckles being strong, intimidating and yet good-hearted and proud warrior, Sonic having attitude but also showing some emotion and vulnerability, them cooperating in combat, exploring more of lore etc., like there was in the movie. I grew up with 2D Sonic games and always believed that we will get more of this with 3D transition and possibilities it brings… but it all went mostly downhill (besides the beginnings). I really, really hope they can pull this off in Frontiers to some degree, that it doesn't become just a game with 'way past cool dude et his forgotten al.' in a generic open world 10 years after it was cool. I don't expect it to be perfect, but at least be decent and set the right track for the future instalments just as the first Sonic movie did for the second. But now - sorry for the rant - and let's enjoy this amazing god sent of a movie. And also, big shout out for the creative team that clearly put their hearts and souls into it!

IKR! Defo should have added more Sonic music or melodies to accentuate scenes such as a little heavy metal guitar take on a boss level when Death Egg robot pops up for instance or some Super Sonic music for when the transition happens. Could have even given us more gaming twinkles. A missed opportunity but hoping we get more of my fave part of the movie, The whole Temple (Labyrinth scene) and the Knuckles fight scene there. We need more like this in 3 (fingers crossed)

I just don't see it. How is this the ideal Sonic movie? There are many larger critiques than not using game music. A very big one is the fact the movie barely shows Sonic's universe and relies too much on the real world. The pop culture references, humans, and real world setting just take me out the experience and doesn't feel like Sonic.

THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING! AHH I LOVED IT SO MUCH! :D The post credits scene, Dr. Robotnik was killer, the Super Sonic and the Chaos Emeralds reveal, Tails was outstanding, Knuckles was so goofy and dorky, AHHHHH! :D

It’s possible that maybe Sonic 4 or 5 could introduce time travel and have Metal Sonic, Silver or Blaze in there, because their characters all kind of have to do with time travel or the future..

Out of topic but seeing the little girl outside enjoying herself in 54:50 gave me a nice nostalgic feeling.

If for the third movie we don't see *that* scene with Sonic and Shadow (you know which one), I'll riot.

So since they made all these action figures of the sonic characters, what if they can make a super sonic action figure?

I'm pretty sure the island with the master emerald and all that is angel island, even though it's not floating, or super huge. idk just where it is, the master emerald, and the trees look super similar.

I loved how they implemented all the elements from the games in a way that actually makes sense. Maybe some scenes went on for too long and not all jokes got me, but what they needed to do right with this movie? They did a phenomenal Job in my opinion
