LRZ 2: The motobug, named Jimmy is a reference to Polygon Jim (RIP) and his famous “Motobug in Sonic 1” hack. LRZ 2(K): Takes place in Hidden Palace Zone. Heavy King flies around in a similar manner to Super Mecha Sonic. MMZ 1: Recreation of Sonic 1’s final boss fight, just with one extra piston and a pinch mode. MMZ 2: The machine Eggman pilots resembles the Botanic Base boss (even though the attack method is completely different) Miniature versions of the Emerald Hill boss, Marble boss, and Amy (acting like she did in Sonic CD, but in that game she only stopped you if she hugged you, here she blows up [makes sense because it’s a robot]) Also a reference to the Gumball Machine from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. TMZ 1: A crystal-clear reference to Red Eye from S3&K. Ironically renamed to Crimson Eye (Crimson is basically dark red.) TMZ 2: Reminds me of Sonic CD’s final boss. ERZ: The Phantom King behaves similarly to how he did as the Heavy King in Hidden Palace. Eggman’s mech uses parts from the TMZ 2 fight to make a Big Arms "replica."

Mirage Saloon act 2 has elements from Sandopolis. Press Garden has elements from Launch Base, Marble Garden, and Mushroom Hill. Titanic Monarch draws from Scrap Brain and other final zones... Studiopolis has a couple things from "Casino/Carnival/Yard" zones from earlier games as well...

To be honest, I've never actually seen the reverie that much, but out on the info that I have thought, Egg Reverie is based on Doomsday zone from S3&K.

Sonic Mania 2 would maybe base on the Adventure 1 and 2 games from the Dreamcast.

Act 1 has some mechanics from Launch Base Zone, but it isn't really based on any prior sonic zone to my knowledge. I mean I guess you could say that Act 2 is sort of based on Ice Cap, but even then I think that's a bit of a stretch.

Kind of. Desert Dazzle, the scrapped Sonic CD stage was only going to be present in the remake, but it was denied by SEGA as they wanted the game to be as close to the original as possible. Desert Dazzle was mostly based on Dust Hill, the scrapped Sonic 2 stage. Since it wasn't fully made past the simple concept in the first place, it can't really be attributed as vased on it.

I absolutely hate how they referenced the boss fight in stardust speedway act 2 instead of the actual zone itself (which is the present of stardust speedway, to be more specific, act 2 in mania represents act 2 in sonic cd.) Also, that metallic madness was kinda wrong. Act 1 in mania represents the past of the original metallic madness, while act 2 represents the present.
