I always chalked it up to Sonic clearly not wearing real Air Shoes. They are just regular shoes that look like Shadow's Air Shoes. But even if they did add that animation you might as well just be playing as Shadow.

Classic Sonic is Clothes Shadow in Sonic Generations.

This almost seems like a scenario where Shadow is some old hero Sonic would read about as a kid and be a fan of. Until SA2 comes and we have the “never meet your heroes” plot.

Cool to see the Shadow Costume here.

This really should be in Sonic X Shadow Generations

Man, classic Sonic got some really cool set pieces with the truck and run away crisis city sign. Wish they tried more stuff like that for modern Sonic and newer games.
