"We ran through the check point so fast . . ." There's a quirk of the coding that if you somehow get ahead of the screen, you don't count as being there for the purpose triggering things. And if you get too far ahead, you go into a value that the game doesn't think exists, so it sends you all the waay to the opposite side of the map as you left the screen on.

Its not really a "quirk" rather just the game trying to run as efficiently as possible by unloading objects if you can't see since there's really no point in doing so. Remember, this game is on the SEGA GENESIS.

One time, while playing on the gamecube version of Mega Collection, I got shot up so hard and so fast in twilight zone that the game just randomly killed me. This explains why, must have gone so far it warped me into the death plain below the map...

Combining this with OmoChao (like, you get him after a certain number of rings invokes pure chaos, for instance) would be a wild ride. I invite the ROMhackers of the world to... never make that. That would be pure evil. We wouldn't wanna torture BTG with that, definitely not.

This SUPER FAST Sonic 1 speed run makes me laugh so hard! 🤣

Suggestion: Use debug mode to give yourself 999 rings when you get to Sonic 2's final boss fight if you decide to try it.

I wonder how doing it with Sonic 2 XL would work though. Rings make him faster, but they also make him fat, so he gets slower and faster?

This brings the term "world's fastest hedgehog" to actually be true. Lol

Sonic 2 would be really crazy to try this mod in Casino Night Zone. Plus with the slots you can get a ton of rings and see just how much you can break the game.

The roll is probably weird because the speed most likely works by speeding up time for sonic but slowing everything else down making the roll which im pretty sure works with a different object than sonic move normal speed

I could see this being helpful for the "Lose Tails or ELSE!" ROM hack.

It actually makes sense since in the Sonic Advance GBA games (2 and 3rd) He does speed up more often when collecting more rings.
